Chapter 101
Peta kajl Struggling towards the window, her face streaked with tears, âLet me go, Dad, let me die, I wanna join my baby in death
Deeât, held up, Shels, donât do anything stupid
Figin stepped forward, taking Shela from Markâs grasp. âWhela, donât cry
âMr. Ramirez, Sheia leaned into him, Iâm useless, just yell at me, itâs all my fault.â
Elgin silently petied her back
He was hurting too, just keeping it under wraps, pain tucked away in his heart
Shela lifted her hand and wiped away the tears, turning her gaze to Letitia Sanders.
Seeing that calculating look in her eyes, Letitia sensed trouble brewing.
Sure as the sun, Shela was about to play the victim card.
âMoving into Ivory Towers was Mr. Ramirezâs idea, he wanted me to take care of the pregnancy, I get that youâre upset, but⦠Shelaâs eyes welled up, âwhy did you have to hurt me?â
Me? Hurt you?â
1 saw you miss a step, about to fall down the stairs, and I was trying to be nice, so I helped you. And what did I get? You grabbed my hand and yanked me down with you! Letitia, I was pregnant! That fall caused me my baby!â
She knew it. Shela was going to pin it all on her!
Letita quickly defended herself, âI tripped by myself, but, you comered me at the edge! I was falling, and I didnât grab you, you reached out for my hand! Youâre pregnant, why the heck didnât you steer clear of me? Instead, you come at me with this pretense of helping!
Shela, all pitiful, âSo now helping you is my fault?â
âYou didnât help me! You fell on me!â
âMr. Ramirez Shela looked up at Elgin, According to Letitia here, I deliberately fell and caused myself miscarriage. Thatâs one hell of an accusation, I canât carry that cross!â
Letitia was taken aback. Sheâd spoken too hastily, inadvertently turning the tables on Shela.
Even if that was the case, she shouldnât have been so blunt in front of Elgin.
Now, Elgin was sure to loathe her even more!
As expected, Elginâs icy gaze landed on her, âGot anything else up your sleeve besides shifting the blame? Shelaâs child is gone, and youâre pointing fingers at her?
⦠Letitia clenched her teeth, âIf I really wanted to screw over Shela, why would I fall down the stairs with her, in such a boneheaded way that Iâd risk my own skin? Iâm pregnant too!â
Such a no-brainer, couldnât Elgin see that?
She valued her childâs safety above all, she wouldnât take such a wild risk!
But then, Elgin spoke gravely, âYour child is still okay. Shelaâs child is gone.
With that, both Shela and Markâs eyes widened in shock.
What?! Letitia didnât miscarry! What in the world was going on!
Could Letitia be that lucky? To go through all that and still keep the baby! Thatâs just not fair!
âItâs fate, out of anyoneâs hands,â Letitia replied, âI almost lost my child tooâ
Shefs was shaking with rage, pointing at her words failing her. âYou, you you.â
After all that effort, Letitiaâs kid was still hanging in there!
Mar was beside himself with anger but had to swallow his words.
in the end, Shele stamped her foot and wailed, âThis is so damn unfair, Letitia, you kill my baby and yours gets off scot-free⦠whereâs the jarmor? Why is my life so cursed
said, âThe child sheâs carrying isnât mine, donât overthink it
know you said you never slept with her, and I believe you. Shela sobbed. âBut, but her child is still alive! What am I supposed to dest
riserable, I migh
With that, she suddenly shoved Elgin and flung herself towards the wall.
Mark shouted, âShela! Donât be foolish!â
As if Shela would really hurt herself to bits, she slowed down on purpose, giving enough time for Elgin to grab her and pull her husk Struggling, she cried out, âLet go of me, Mr. Ramirez, Iâm such a failure, couldnât even protect my child, canât even get revenge. Itâs clearly Letitiaâs fault, and sheâs turning it around on meâ¦â
Elgin held her down, his gaze cold as he looked at Letitia, âWho said you canât get revenge?â
âMr Ramirez..â
âWhatever you want done to Letitia, thatâs what sheâll have to face. She owes you that.â
A flicker of triumph crossed Shelaâs eyes. Thatâs what she wanted!
If she couldnât off Letitiaâs baby, sheâd torture her, bide her time for the next strike!
âShe has to repent, atone, and apologize for my childâs death,â Shela declared. âShe caused all this, sheâs gotta pay the price!â
Seeing this, Mark quickly agreed, âRightâ Letitia, get on your knees and beg for forgiveness!â
âOn my knees? To you?â Letitia let out a scornful laugh, âIn your dreams!â
Yet Mark was already on her, pushing down on her shoulders, âDo it! Kneel until Shela forgives you!â
âGet off me!â
âYouâre challenging me? Mark retorted, âHavenât you brought enough disaster upon us? Itâs the least you can do!â
He forced Letitia to kneel, but she stood ramrod straight, not bending an inch, resisting him with all her might. She didnât need anyoneâs approval, had done no wrong, harbored no malice, and she sure as hell wouldnât kneel!
Kneeling would mean admitting she was responsible for Shelaâs baby!
âWell, well, youâve got some strength, Mark kicked at her knee, âI donât believe you can keep standing forever!â
Letitia was stubborn as they come. No matter what Mark tried, she stayed on her feet.
And all the while, she kept her eyes on Elgin.
âTrying to break me? Letitia said with a light laugh, âRight in front of you all, Iâll make it crystal clear today, I never intend to hurt anyone, and I didnât cause Shelaâs babyâs death!â
Mark was fuming, âShut your trap and get on your knees!â
As he tried to kick her again, Elgin stepped in, âBack off.â
âMr. Ramirez, butâ¦
Elgin walked over to Letitia and looked down at her defiant stance.
Ever since heâd known her, sheâd been this stubborn.
Even now, after going through so much, no matter what happened, she hadnât changed a bit.
Sometimes heâd think, if only Letitia could be a bit more compliant, a little more docile, she couldâve saved herself a lot of grief.
But no, she just wouldnât have it
âDid you forget my warning? Any harm to the kid, and the Sanders family would pay with their lives?â Elgin raised an eyebrow, âSo, is the entire Sanders clan stepping up, or are you going to shoulder the consequences alone?â
