Chapter 108
Samson was totally flummoxed, âYou want it?â
âYep, after all, I designed that ring. I wanna dig into it a bit more, plus itâs my first time dealing with high-end custom bling, Letitia said with a chuckle âIs that cool with you?â
Samson thought for a moment and agreed, âSure thingâ
Letitia added, âOh, and Mr. Stewart, to dodge any unnecessary drama, please donât spill the beans to Elgin. I donât want him thinking Iâm up to some shenanigans with the ring
âGotcha. Iâll just say I havenât laid hands on it yet.â
âThanks, Mr. Stewart.â
âNo sweat, Samson replied, Take it. Just hand it back when youâre done.â
Letitia carefully tucked the ring into its box, Jokingly saying, âIâd better keep it safe as treasure- if I lose it. I canât afford that kind of mistakes.
Stepping out of the office, Vidonia couldnât hold back any longer, âLetitia, are you alright?â
âHmm?â
âWhatâs with swiping the ring?â Vidonia gestured, âArenât you getting disgust, holding onto Shelaâs stuff?â
âI need it. Letitia replied.
âYouâre actually gonna study itâ¦â
âShhâ Letitia pulled her aside, made sure the coast was clear, and whispered, âVidonia, I really need your help on this one.â
âSpill it.â
Clutching the brocade box, Letitia said, âShela lost her kid, and Elginâs got me apologizing till she forgives me. But now, Shela wonât accept my apology and wants my baby die with hers.â
âDamn, what a bitch!â
To get out of this mess, thereâs only one way. Prove that Shelaâs miscarriage had nothing to do with me.â
âHow can you prove that?â Vidonia asked. âDoes this have anything to do with the ring?â
â
Letitia looked down and said, âI donât have any proof, and the only lead is Shela herself. Soâ¦â
She leaned in and whispered in Vidoniaâs ear, âI just checked out this ring- itâs big enough to stash something teeny.â
âLike what?â
âA micro bug.â
Vidoniaâs eyes lit up, âLetitia, you sneaky genius! Thatâs your game plan!â
âSo I need the ring, gotta rig it up pronto,â Letitia said. âOnce Shela gets her hands on it, sheâll either flaunt it or keep it close. Everything she says will get picked up by the bug!â
Desperation brings out the best in people, and Letitia was cornered.
With Shela breathing down her neck, she had to look out for herself and hit back hard.
No peace for Letitia till Shelaâs out of the picture!
Letitia opened the brocade box, her gaze fixed on the glittering ring, âIf Shela staged her miscarriage to frame me, sheâs bound to spill the beans to someone close at some point.â
âIâm all in! Vidonia said, pumped up about the plan. âIâm on it right away!â
âThanks!â
Letitia hoped this move would knock Shela down for good. She couldnât let Shela get back on her feet- if she did, Letitia would be toast! So she had to win, not lose, and keep Shela down for good!
Vidonia had connections and found someone for the job the next day.
Letitia brought the ring herself, and watched a techie secure a bug the size of a fingernail into the ring, making sure it was snug as a bug in a rug
to only good for a month. After that, the bug goes dead.â
Roger that Iâll make it count
Letoâs eyes were full of fesolve as she gazed at the ring.
Til keep an extra eye on Shela for you, Vidoniz said. âGonna catch her by the tail sooner rather than later!â.
Youâve already done so much.â
Come on, weâre thick as thieves! No need for thanks,â Vidonia said, barely containing her excitement. âI canât wait to see Shelaâs downfall!â
Letitia put the ring back in the box, âThat day will come. Letâs roll.â
Back at the company, Letitia was ready to return the ring to Samson.
But stepping out of the elevator, she bumped into Odetta.
Letitia stepped aside to let her pass.
âWhat time is it? Youâre late, Letitia!â Odetta halted, âDoesnât this company have rules?â
*Oh, then dock my pay by the rules.â
âYouâ¦â
Letitia stepped forward, not up for a tiff.
âHold on!â Odetta called. âWhatâs that precious thing in your bag youâre guarding, are you scared itâll get found out?â
ââ¦My bagâs my business. Whatâs it to you?â
âYour bag, sure, but is everything in it yours?â
Letitia didnât expect Odetta to be so clingy and frowned, âWhatâs your deal, really?â
*Just a quick look-see.â Odetta fixed her gaze on her, âWhat if⦠youâve nicked gems from the Jewelry Department and caused a loss?â
âWatch your mouth!â
âGetting all worked up, did I hit a nerve?â Odetta was good at reading people, and she sensed something off with Letitia.
Letitia was indeed edgy.
She had no intentions of thievery, but at that moment, the wedding ring was in her bag.
If Odetta got a peek⦠it would be a hullabaloo that the whole company would hear about!
âIâve got a meeting with Mr. Stewart, Ms. Odetta, if youâll excuse me.â Letitia didnât want to dawdle and turned to leave.
Odetta grabbed her arm, âI want to check your bag!â
âYouâve got no right!â
âI must check it today!â
Odetta was strong and persistent, yanking at Letitiaâs bag. Letitia clung to it for dear life.
They tussled over the bag, and with a âsnap,â the strap broke.
The contents spilled out, including the conspicuous velvet box.
Letitia made a beeline for it. But Odetta was quicker on the draw, bending down swiftly to snatch up the box before Letitia could even get close.
Letitia, looks like I hit the nail on the head â you really did swipe some bling from the company!â Odetta crowed with a smug look plastered all over her face. âLetâs see what you stole!â
Letitia was in deep water now!
All pumped up, Odetta flipped open the fancy box and when she caught sight of the wedding ring inside, she was gobsmacked.
!
Scared out of her wits, she couldnât even talk straight, âYou⦠Letitia, you⦠you had the guts to lift the custom wedding ring Mr. Ramirez had made for Mrs. Ramirez?â
That ring was the talk of the town at the Ramirez Group â everyone knew about it.
Especially in the Jewelry Department, theyâd all seen the design sketches Heck, the marketing pitch and copy were all ready.
This ring cost a pretty penny, an eight figure sum that didnât come cheap!
