âHereâs what I think you should do, man-cut ties with Shela for good, Samson started dishing out
advice. âWhat women need is security, a rock-solid choice, favoritism. If you wanna have a future with
Letitia, you gotta break it off clean with Shela.â
Elgin stayed silent.
âDonât tell me⦠your like them both? Do you wanna keep both irons in the fire? No way, Gin. Given
Shelaâs looks, character, and personality.. youâd have to be blind to fall for her.â
âGot it,â Elgin finally spoke up. âYou can go now.â
Samson gritted his teeth Elgin just used him and then showed him the door! What a ruthless man!
âArenât you leaving? Elgin asked. âWanna stick around for a meeting, or do you have clients to see or a
trip to take?â
Samson vanished in the blink of an eye.
Elgin stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and lit a cigarette, taking his time with it.
It wasnât until ten at night that Elgin left the office
âMr. Ramirez, your hand needs a new dressing.
âGet the car ready, head to Breezy Bay Condos, he instructed. âHave the doc come to the car for the
dressing changeâ
Elgin rested with his eyes closed the whole ride.
The doc quietly did his thing, changing the bandage.
The car ride was enveloped in a heavy silence.
Back at the apartment
Shela sat at her vanity, eyes glued to the pricey wedding ring, greed written all over her face.
How could she bear to leave Elgin⦠Power, status, money, the envious stares from the women of
AquaCity, itâs all she ever wanted
She was determined to make a comeback. No way Letitia could take her down!
âDing-dong The doorbell rang.
Thinking it was Mark, Shela put down the ring and scurried to the door.
But when she saw it was Elgin, her surprise turned to delight, âMr. Ramirez! Oh⦠what happened to
your hand?â
Elgin silently walked into the living room, tugged at his tie, and lit another cigarette.
Shela noticed his pallor and sour mood, so she kept her mouth shut.
âAre you getting used to living here?â Elgin asked. âYou like the place?â
âUh-huh, I like everything you give me!â
âThis place is yours now, Iâll transfer it to your name.â
Shela nodded vigorously, âHow generous! Thank you, Mr. Ramirez!â
She was over the moon. The apartment was worth millions, a symbol of wealth and status!
Mr. Ramirez sure was generous!
Shela thought Elgin was starting to make it up to her. After all, sheâd been given the cold shoulder for
days and Letitia had given her a rough time.
âMr. Ramirez, I messed up before, I shouldnât have gotten greedy.â Shela said, clinging to his arm. I
apologize. From now on, Iâll be totally devoted to you.â
She even leaned in, rubbing her body against his arm on purpose
Elgin pushed her away. âDonât bother.â
Shela was stunned, âHuh?â
what else you want, Elgin flicked ash from his cigarette, âIl fulfill all your material needs.â
Material neerts? What about emotional ones? Status? Identity?
Shela finally sensed something was off, âMr. Ramirez, what are you getting at?â
ht, you suffered. You should be compensated. Letâs settle this once and for all today
Elgin was here for the breakup. Samson was right-if he had no feelings for Shela, only gratitude, then
he needed to cut ties as quickly all possible.
Love is love Gratitude is gratitude. For things to last with Letitia, Shela had to go.
Shela couldnât believe her ears, âMr. Ramirez, youâre kicking me out?â
âYouâll get what you want, just name it. I agree to all your demands.â
Money, assets, they were all trivial to Elgin. Shela wanted them, heâd give them.
She deserved it Without her that night, Phedra would have succeeded.
âNo, no, I donât want anything. I just want you,â Shela shook her head frantically, âMr. Ramirez, I donât
want the house or the money, just let me stay by your side⦠I canât lose you!â
Shela couldnât grasp why things had turned this way. After the fake miscarriage came to light, she knew
Elgin was mad, so sheâd been apologizing ever since.
Now, with Lelitiaâs baby gone too, she thought she was in the clear, butâ¦.
Elgin was actually dumping her!
âWhy, Mr. Ramirez, Shela asked in desperation, âIâve admitted my mistake, reflected on it, and I wonât
trouble Letitia anymore, why canât you forgive me⦠Iâve always loved you!â
Elginâs expression remained cold, âI donât like wasting too much time on one thing.
He glanced at his watch
The quicker, the better. Because he still had to visit Letitia at the hospital.
To Shela, these actions screamed urgency and crisis.
âMr. Ramirez, just because of my fake miscarriage, youâre punishing me like this⦠Shelaâs tears came
on cue, âWhat about Letitia? She was carrying a bastard, donât you mind?!â
The childâs been abortedâ
âBut the fact remains, she was neither pure nor clean!â
Elgin replied, âHer child was conceived before she married me.â
He paused, then seemed to remember something, âLetitiaâs been in a mental institution all this time,
she had never left there. How could she have gotten involved with a man, let alone get pregnant? Was
there someone in the institution who forced her?â
âSheâs a slut! She went around seducing men, thatâs how she got knocked up with a bastard!â
Elgins gaze darkened, âLetitiaâs not that kind of woman.
Even though heâd used those words to hurt Letitia before, it was all in anger.
If Letitia were that kind of woman, sheâd have been throwing herself at him long ago, not resisting and
scared every time he kissed her
or wanted her.
Shela clenched her palms.
âMr. Ramirez,â she asked, âhave you⦠have you fallen for Letitia?â
âYes.â Elgin didnât hesitate with his answer.
âYouâre in love with her?â Shela was gobsmacked. âYouâve actually fallen for Letitia?â
âYup.â
Shela couldnât believe her ears. She had finally managed to get rid of Letitiaâs kid, only to wind up
making Elgin feel sorry for and fall in
love with Letitia!
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
âMr. Ramirez, cheâs carrying a bastard! Shela reminded him, âSheâs dirty, sheâs Dr. Sandersâs daughter,
you and her are like sworn enemies, how⦠how can you possibly love her!â
âI donât need angle?
you to meddle in my business with her, Elgin stubbed out his cigarette with his fingertips. âNow spit it
out. Whatâs your
He was visibly impatient Hanging around Shela was eating into his time, and that just meant it would
take him that much longer to see
