He leaned in close to her, saying, âThis isnât a discussion. Get on board with the baby-making plan, and
you can head back to the company. Otherwise, you can play the little lady of leisure at home-I can
afford to keep you.â
Classic Elgin. Always forcing her to do things she hates, using every trick in the book!
Letitia, grinding her teeth retorted, âElgin, I despise you. Arenât you afraid that if I do get pregnant with
your child, I might intentionally miscarry just to get back at you, just to hurt you?*
After hearing her, he cracked a smirk, âNo, you wouldnât.â
âYes, I would! Because I hate you!â
âWhat do you mean, âget pregnant with my child?â Elgin shot back, his voice deepening, âThat child
would also be yours-carrying half of your blood. Letitia, you couldnât be that cruel.â
See, he had her figured out to a T
Right, even if Letitia hated Elgin to the core, she couldnât bring herself to hate the child.
So⦠her only choice was not to get pregnant!
âLetâs get ready to have a baby,â Elgin whispered into her ear his breath warm against her skin, âto
have a child thatâs ours.â
Truth be told, he had his own agenda Elgin figured that once she was pregnant, once there was a child,
Letitia would have no choice but to completely resign herself to staying by his side.
He was using the child to tie her down. They say a womanâs heart softens when she becomes a
mother.
By then, for the sake of the child, Letitiaâs hatred toward him would start to fade, bit by bit.
Letitia turned her head to dodge his affection.
Back at Ivory Towers, Letitia headed straight to the servantsâ quarters without looking back.
Elgin watched her go in silence.
âMr. Ramirez, didnât you already move the madamâs belongings back to the master bedroom?â the
butler asked. âShall I call her back?â
âNo need.â
Letitia had no clue about this. She pushed open the door to her room and found it completely empty.
Her stuff was gone, leaving only the bare bones of a bed frame.
Crap! The wireless headsets she used to eavesdrop on Shelaâs secrets was hidden in a pillowcase!
Would it be lost? What if it was? Or⦠did the servants find it while tidying up and give it to Elgin?
Either possibility sent a shiver down Letitiaâs spine!
She still needed to listen in on what Shela and her mother had discussed at the sanatorium!
She needed to know the content of that conversation! But without the wireless headsets⦠what was
she to do?
Letitia turned back, only to find Elgin still standing there. She confronted him directly. âDid you instruct
the servants to move my stuff?*
âYes.â
âWhere to?â
The master bedroom,â Elgin replied. âYouâll be sleeping with me from now on.â
Letitia couldnât care less about where to sleep, her mind was fixated on her wireless headsets!
She hurried to the master bedroom.
It had been a while since sheâd been to the second floor, and she noticed it had been redecorated. New
carpets, new curtainsâ¦Stepping into the master bedroom, she spotted even more changes.
Gone were the masculine black, white, and gray lanes, replaced by touches of femininity. The walk-in
closet was filled with brand-new womenâs clothing in her size.
Even the bathroom was stocked with her personal toiletriesâ¦
Leia cealized that when Elgin wanted to treat someone well, that person truly became the luckiest
woman in the world. Too bad.. what he offered her was a slap first, then a candy
That âsp hurt her badly, so badly that the candy he offered wasnât sweet enough to erase the pain and
sorrow in her heart
Fantically, Letitia scoured for the missing wireless headsets
She sucked under the bed, rifled through the pillows, scoured the closet, combed through the walk-in
closetâ¦
She turned every comer she could think of, yet there was no trace of the wireless headsets.
What was she going to do?
âWhat are you looking for? Elgin suddenly spoke from the doorway.
Startled, she quickly got up, âNothing, just some personal stuffâ
1 had all the things from your room in the servantsâ quarters thrown away.â
Letitiaâs eyes widened. âThrown away?
Just some old stuff. I had the butler get new ones, Elgin said, âYouâll like them.â
Like hell!
He actually threw them away! No wonder she couldnât find her wireless headsets!
Letitia was boiling inside but could only glare at him âPlease, in the future, donât mess with my stuff
without asking!â
âThose trinkets of yours, whatâs there to fuss about?
In Elginâs eyes, everything Letitia wore and used was too cheap and lacked quality.
He wanted to give her expensive, high quality things But once again, she was ungrateful!
âEven if itâs just trinkets you shouldâve at least told me before tossing my stuff!â
Elginâs face darkened
It was a thankless task for him! She was the only one who didnât appreciate it.
âEnough,â Letitia fumed. âIâm heading to the company!â
She couldnât stand another second in Ivory Towers
She needed to see Vidonia and find out if there was any way to fix this!
Once at the company, Letitia made a beeline for Vidoniaâs office.
âWhat do I do, Vidonia, I came back from the hospital to find my wireless headsets goneâ¦â Letitia
asked anxiously. âIs there anything we can do?â
*Itâs gone?
âYes! Elgin threw away all my stuff and bought new things! Even speaking of it got Letitia heated.
Vidonia was speechless
âShela went to see my mom wearing the ring. Letitia continued, âI donât know what she said to my mom
in the hospital room, but it pissed her off so much she went into emergency care and sheâs still not out
of danger. So, I need to know what was said in that conversation, and fastâ
âWhat? Your mom almost died because of her!?â
Vidonia shot up, grinding her teeth, âHold on, Iâll ask if the tech department can do something, maybe
make new wireless headsetsâ
âOkay.
Vidonia went to make some calls, communicating back and forth.
Half an hour later, she finally exhaled in relief, Sorted. But itâll take some time to make new wireless
headsets. Once itâs ready, theyâll ship it directly to me.
âHow long will it take? Letitia asked.
âThree days at the soonest, a week at the latest
just hope my mom⦠Letitiaâs voice choked up as she spoke.
âYour morn will be fine, donât worry, Vidonia soothed her, âwhen she wakes up, you bring me to see her
I guarantee Ill cheer her up.â
Letitia sighed, âThatâs all we can do for nowâ
Letitia, pull yourself together Losing the child⦠Im as devastated as you. But life has to go on. You still
have your dad and mom, and
have me. Donât lose faith
talked her, Vidonia, as long as Iâm stuck with Elgin, Iâm never gonna catch a breakâ
bosomes, his dominance his need to control⦠Theyâre all suffocating her.
Iâve got no choice but to stay Lea murmured. I need to unravel the truth behind Marcelâs death, and my
folks
clutches Once all of this is over, only then can I truly bail.â
Vidonia took her hand, âI know itâs harsh to say, but I gotta lay it out. Letitia, even when the truth comes
out, do you really think Elginâs gonna let you walk away?â
