The stuff she said next⦠Letitia couldâve called it.
Shela was definitely gonna spill the beans to Mom about the miscarriage, how it happened, and how
miserable Letitiaâs been. She would then go all out to embellish the story and kept poking the bear.
It turned out that Shela went and told Mom the hard truth.
Mom couldnât handle such a brutal reality, thatâs why she passed out and ended up in emergency care.
This kind of truth? Forget Mom, even Letitia couldnât handle it.
She took off her headphones and packed them away carefully.
Outside the window, it was all sunshine and rainbows, but Letitiaâs heart was freezing cold.
She stepped out of the Ramirez Group, the warm sun on her skin, but it couldnât thaw her heart.
Letitia felt like a walking corpse.
Who wouldâve thought that guy from that night would be Elgin? The baby she was carrying was a part
of the Ramirez family bloodline.
It was so outrageous and absurd, yet an undeniable fact!
Letitia stopped dead in her tracks on the bustling street and was at totally lost. She seemed to have no
clue what her life was even about anymore.
She hailed a cab.
âWhere to, miss?â
âIâ¦â
Right, where was she supposed to go? No home left, Dadâs in jail, Momâs in ICU.
She was just a lost soul.
âTo the sanatorium,â she finally decided to visit her mother one last time.
By her motherâs side, thatâs where she felt a tiny bit of safety.
Meanwhile, Vidonia headed back to the office.
Muttering to herself as she walked in, âThat Samson is such a piece of work, always popping up at the
worst times. Be nice to him, and he thinks Iâm weird. Get tough, and he says thatâs the real meâ¦â
She looked up and noticed Letitia wasnât there.
âWhere is she?â She looked all around, âWhy did she leave? Where could she have gone?â
âLetitia?â
Vidonia dashed to the employee area, only to find Letitiaâs desk empty.
Weird.
She just vanished after listening to the recording? Did she uncover some secret?
At the Sanatorium.
At Letitiaâs pleading, the doctor agreed to let her into the ICU, but only for ten minutes.
For her, ten minutes were enough.
She knelt beside the bed, her cheek against her motherâs hand, âMomâ¦â
Tears started falling the moment she spoke.
By her motherâs side, she could pour her heart out and release all her pent-up emotions.
âWhy did it have to be Elginâs baby⦠Why?â
âHe wants me to get pregnant again, but what he doesnât know is that he already killed our baby with
his own
hands.â
âMom, what do I do now? How can I face Elgin? How shattered will he be when he knows the truth?â
âIf I had known earlier that the baby was Elginâs⦠Maybe you and Dad wouldnât have suffered so
much. For the babyâs sake, the feud between the Ramirez and Sanders families couldâve been put on
hold.â
âIâm such a failure, a disgraceful daughter. I still havenât uncovered the truth about Marcel Ramirezâs
death and even dragged Walden into this mess.â
Ten minutes flew by.
Letitiaâs tears had yet to dry, hanging on her cheeks as she reluctantly left her motherâs bedside.
âYour motherâs condition is currently stable,â the attending physician said. âIf all goes well, she can be
moved to a regular ward next week.â
âAnd if things go south?â
âWellâ¦â
âSorry, Iâm being pessimistic,â Letitia replied. âIf everything goes smoothly, to what extent can my
mother recover?â
After a moment of thought, the doctor said, âSheâs of advanced age, and⦠the delay in getting the right
medication has lessened the potential effect. But with proper care, thereâs still hope.â
Letitia nodded.
Her phone was buzzing nonstop in her pocket, but she didnât bother to check it. Right now, she didnât
want to face anyone.
Letitia walked out of the sanatorium, about to hail a cab, when a familiar Mercedes pulled up.
She kept a sharp eye out, watching from the sidelines.
The car stopped, the door opened, and out stepped wereâ¦
Hawley and Phedra!
Letitia was taken aback. What were they doing here?
âHawley, this is the place,â Phedra said. âElgin moved Letitiaâs mother here, and the treatment costs a
fortune.
He really spared no expense.â
âLetâs go in and have a look.â
âAlright.â
Phedra agreed, helping Hawley inside.
âWait!â Letitia panicked, stepping out from behind the tree, âIf youâve got business, talk to me!â
At the sight of her, Hawley frowned in displeasure, âYouâre here too, good, saves me the trouble.â
âYes, Iâm here. Donât bother my mother, sheâs still unconscious and canât take any more stress!â Her
face was tense, anxious. Her mother couldnât afford another setback.
Hawley looked at her with a mix of disgust and impatience, âSeeing you reminds me of that poor
child⦠Letitia youâre so useless! Such a precious child, and you couldnât even keep it!â
When Hawley had scolded her like this before, Letitia hadnât cared.
$51
But now, knowing the baby was of the Ramirez bloodline, it hurt to hear those words.
A mix of emotions overwhelmed Letitia.
And Hawley had been right all along⦠that child was indeed of the Ramirez family.
At the thought of this. Letitia turned to Phedra.
âWhy are you staring at me?â Phedra squirmed under her gaze, âI didnât lay a finger on your kid! I even
took you to the hospital for a thorough and costly check-up!â
Letitia said, âYou also did a paternity test, right?â
âYeah.â Phedra admitted, âYou tried to steal the test tube, didnât you? But the one you took was a
decoy. Iâve been keeping real stuff needed for the test with me all along!â
âSo⦠you knew the baby was Elginâs.â
âOf course I know,â Phedra said with a puzzled look, âDidnât you realize the kid is Elginâs? After all,
youâre not bold enough to have an affair with others!â
Letitia cracked a smile. As she smiled, tears began to well up in her eyes. âWhy didnât you tell me
sooner? Why?â
Phedra was even more baffled. âIsnât it common knowledge? You married Elgin and got pregnant with
his kid with the aligned timing⦠Whatâs there to tell you?â
Hawley asked, âWhat? Phedra, have you been keeping secrets from us and running a paternity test or
something?â
âYeah, Hawley,â Phedra replied with an awkward chuckle, âI⦠I just wanted to play it safe, you know. If
the kid turned out not to be of the Ramirez family, Letitia pulled the wool over all our eyes!â
Hawleyâs face turned stern and blamed, âNonsense.â
