âHawley, itâs because Letitiaâs got a special status, you know. But the DNA tests showed the kid was
Elginâs. Too bad⦠Ah, itâs all gone now, no use crying over spilt milk.â
Only then did Letitia realize why Phedra had cooled her jets and stopped bouncing off the walls after
getting
the results.
She had always thought that it was Vidonia who swiped the test tubes, screwing up the paternity test.
It turned out the test confirmed the kid was Elginâs, which shut Phedra up for good!
âAlright, go check up on Malinda,â Hawley instructed, âI need a word with Letitia.â
Phedra nodded reluctantly and took off.
Clearly, Mr. Ramirez wanted to sideline her to dish some tea she wasnât meant to hear.
Once Phedra was out of earshot, Hawley spoke up, âLetitia, I didnât come here today to mess with your
mom. On the contrary, Iâm here to help you and her.â
âIâm not following you, Mr. Ramirez.â
âLet me cut to the chase,â Hawley said, eyeing her. âElgin has his head over heels for you and insists
on being with you regardless of anything. So⦠I need you to leave him.â
âI told you, Iâm down for the divorce with nothing, but Elgin wonât let me go,â
âI know, and thatâs why Iâm offering to help, but youâve got to play ball with me.â
Letitia stared unblinkingly at Hawley, âHow can you help?â
âDr. Sanders killed my son, and heâs an enemy of the Ramirez family, I wonât let that slide. But you and
your mom are just caught in the crossfire,â Hawley began. âIâll figure out a way to get you and your
mom out of AquaCity for good, never to return, especially not popping up in front of Elgin!â
It was crunch time that Hawley was ready to make his move.
The rise and fall of the Ramirez family along with the interests of the Ramirez Group were now all in
Elginâs
hands.
Elgin couldnât be shackled down by love, nor could he afford to show weakness over a woman!
And this woman, sheâs the daughter of an enemy!
âFor real?â Letitia was skeptical. âMr. Ramirez, youâre going to let me and my mom walk?â
âOf course. I came here today to get the scoop on your mom and to plan out the details. You know how
Elgin is⦠shrewd, not easy to fool!â
Even Hawley had to walk on eggshells around Elgin, careful not to make a move. Letitia figured if she
tried to bolt on her own, it would be a tall order.
*Letitia, are you in? Or are you too attached to the glitz and glam Elginâs given you?â
âIâm in,â Letitia replied. âBut I hope you wonât be too hard on my dad in prison.â
*Dealâ
Hawley agreed and headed off toward the sanatorium with his cane.
Letitia stood there, watching his retreating figure.
âRemember, we canât rush this but need a solid plan,â Hawleyâs voice floated back. Just lay low for now,
wait for my signal, and donât do anything rash!â
Letitia had thought about fleeing, but she knew it wouldnât be easy.
Now, with Hawleyâs help, her chances of success had just shot through the roof!
She was looking forward to⦠the day she could leave Elgin behind.
It was always a cursed relationship between Elgin and herself!
At the Ivory Towers in the evening.
With a sharp snap, Elgin flung a glass across the room and shouted, âUseless, canât even find one
person! Where could Letitia possibly run off on her own!â
âMr. Ramirez, we⦠weâre searching the whole city.â
âKeep looking, check the cameras, and donât miss a single intersection!â Elgin bellowed. âIf you canât
find her, you can take your punishment!â
âYes, yesâ¦
Letitia had vanished.
The company said she walked out of Vidoniaâs office and left without coming back.
She didnât return to Ivory Towers either.
Her phone was still reachable, but it just kept ringing unanswered.
This made Elgin anxious.
With Preston Sanders and Malinda in play, he knew Letitia wouldnât dare run. He feared the worstâ¦
that something dangerous had happened to her.
But then again, who in all of AquaCity would dare touch his woman!
Elgin paced back and forth, hands behind his back, with a storm brewing on his face.
Time ticked away.
He grabbed his phone again, dialing Letitiaâs number.
Suddenly, the ringtone echoed from the doorway.
He looked up to see Letitia walking in.
âWhere have you been!â Elgin glared at her. âWhy didnât you answer your phone!â
Letitia just quietly looked into his eyes.
Something about her⦠was off.
âLetitia, talk to me,â Elgin moved closer. âWhat happened to you?â
Her face was expressionless, her eyes, a void of despair.
Elgin raced his heart with his lips tight, âIf you wonât talk, Iâll find out myself!â
He reached for her phone, and she didnât resist.
Missed calls and unread messages⦠Letitia hadnât checked her phone at all!
âMadam,â the butler interjected, âMr. Ramirez thought something had happened to you, heâs had people
looking everywhere and has been worried sick.â
âGet out!â Elgin, in a foul mood, chased everyone out of the living room.
Only the two of them were left.
Letitia blinked slowly, finally speaking. âElgin, you can investigate, you have the connections and the
means⦠So, why are you kept in the dark for the most important thing, unable to find even a trace?â
âWhat do you mean?â Elgin asked in confusion.
Letitia tried to continue, but her throat closed up, unable to make a sound. She just quietly gazed at
Elgin.
That night, in the darkness, it was him and her. The face that had been a blur then was now crystal
clear before her eyes.
Letitia remembered the manâs scent seemed familiar with Elginâs.
But it had been so long since sheâd seen him that she wasnât sure and thought she was overthinking it.
But now⦠the man that night really was him!
The guy sheâs been waiting for sweeping her off her feet was Elgin, the father of her child!
âLetitia, whatâs got you crying?â Elgin asked, âWhoâs been messing with you?â
She was startled for a second, then lifted her hand to her face, only then realizing that she was already
crying
a river.
âNo one⦠No oneâs been messing with me,â Letitia answered, âI just canât keep my emotions in check.â
She despised Elgin.
She loathed him to the bone. It was Elgin who put her through the wringer more than anyone else.
Who wouldâve thought? The guy from that night was Elgin, the guy supposed to marry her and the
father of her
child.
How could such a contradictory dude waltz into her life?
Elgin furrowed his brows deeply.
He had no clue what was up with Letitia and why she was acting all weird, but comforting people wasnât
exactly his forte.
So, Elgin just grabbed a bunch of tissues in a huff and started cleaning her tears.
His fingertips grazed her cheeks, while Letitia turned her head to dodge them.
