Chapter 25
âYouâre paying for the sins of the Sanders family! Elginâs velns were popping at his temples as he bellowed with rage.
And Shela in his arms, smug and taunting, flashed a victorious grin at her.
Letitia conceded, âFine, if you think I pushed her, then yeah, I did it.â
She didnât feel like explaining anymore
Elgin scooped up Shela and strode away. You better pray sheâs okay! For every bone she breaks, Iâll break two of yours!â Letitia stood frozen, watching as Elgin gently placed Shela in the car and headed for the hospital.
In her heart, Elgin was the devil incamate But even devils have a soft spot, itâs just that sheâd never get to see il Letitia looked down at the scratches on the back of her hand, her skin broken, blood seeping through.
The real culprit was Shela. Hiding behind an apology, she forced her to get an abortion!
That night, Letitia didnât sleep, squatting by the door waiting for Elgin to come back
Hearing footsteps, she looked up. But Elgin passed by her with icy indifference, âLucky you, Shela just got a scratch
âOh.
Elgin was about to enter his room but then stopped and turned to her, âLetitia, being married to me and living in Ivory Towers is no different from being in a mental hospital. Get it?â
He said, âYou are paying for your sin, just in a different place, with different methods.â
Letitia looked up at him, âCan I go back to the mental hospital then?â
Living with him proved to be more terrifying. Sheâd rather return to that eerie, empty cottage.
âAfter the divorce, if you want to go back, Iâll let you,â Elgin said, âBut not now.â
Letitia felt a wave of despair.
âAfter being imprisoned two years, I married to you. Isnât that enough atonement? When will you let me go?â
âHeh, you really think youâll be free after we divorce?â
Letitia closed her eyes, âAt least let me live a normal life!â
âIn your dreams!â Elgin shattered all her fantasies.
âI havenât decided yet how Iâm going to torment you after the divorce, he sneered, âBut remember, youâll never escape my grasp!â
âBang!â The door slammed shut, echoing loudly
Letitia slowly clenched the blanket, hugging her shoulders against the wall.
The only company she had now was the tiny life inside her.
âBaby, mommy wonât give up on you.â
The Ramirez Group.
Letitia arrived at her workstation on time.
âYo, up bright and early today, Samson greeted her cheerfully, âThat scented candle you gave me worked well, absolutely brilliant!â
She smiled politely.
She didnât have to walk anymore, sharing a car with Elgin⦠it was suffocating, and she feared being seen by colleagues, so she got off early.
in ignored her, as if were thin air.
Chapter 25
âBy the way, Letitia,â Samson added, âweâre getting a new boss today. Sheâs going to be the head of the Jewelry Department.â
âItâs a She?â
âYes, and a looker. Sheâs super competent; it took some doing to bring her onboardâ
At ten in the morning, the new head of the Jewelry Department showed up right on time.
âHello, Iâm Vidonia Bailey, Iâll be working with Mr. Stewart to manage the Jewelry Department. I hope to have your cooperation to grow and strengthen our new brand.â
The colleagues applauded warmly, welcoming her
Letitiaâs eyelashes fluttered and she looked away. So it was Vidonia, her college roommate and friend.
They were once inseparable, no secrets, closer than sisters
Now, Vidoniaâs reputation in the jewelry industry was on the rise, shining brightly, while Letitia remained in obscurity.
Those two years in the mental hospital were her best youth years, trampled by Elgin.
âMs. Bailey, youâre a big deal in the jewelry world, Samson boasted, âIâm just like your assistant!â
âExactly, Mr. Stewart, you have the money and the eye, just sit back and reap the rewards!â
You could tell they were on good terms, joking around easily.
âCome on, Ms. Bailey, let me introduce you to someone, Samson said. âOur chief designer, Letitia Sanders.â
Hearing her name, Vidoniaâs expression changed, but she quickly put on her usual face, âNice to meet you, Ms. Sanders.
âNice to meet you, Ms. Bailey.â
Vidonia stared at Letitia for a few seconds, then suddenly smiled, âI have some ideas Iâd like to discuss privately with Ms Sanders, if thatâs alright?â
Before Letitia could speak, Samson nodded eagerly, âOf course! You two are my left and right hands; you need to develop a good rapport!â
Vidonia approached Letitia, âCome to my office.
Alright, Ms. Bailey.â
Samson stroked his chin, musing to himself, Two beauties, am I too lucky? Will Elgin be jealous?â
In the directorâs office.
As soon as the door closed, Vidoniaâs face changed, âLetitiaâ I never expected to see you here!â
âDonia..â
âDonât call me like that!â Vidonia paced back and forth in front of her, fuming. âDid you ever consider me a friend? You vanished right after graduation, and I couldnât find you anywhere Do you know how many times I cried, how worried I was for you?â
Letitiaâs eyes were downcast, Iâm sorry,â
âWhat happened that you couldnât even spare a moment to tell me? I went to your house, it was sold. I asked your neighbors, and they didnât tell me anything, like youâd disappeared off the face of the earth!â
âIâm sorrâ¦â
you
dare say those three words to me!:
Lefits fell silent
na was on the verge of exploding, âFine, you donât want to talk, then leave, letâs pretend we never knew each other! Hearing her words, Letitia nodded, turned around silently
Chapter
âHey! You. âVidonia was seriously about to lose her marbles, âDo you really not want to be my friend anymore?â
That hit Letitia right in the feels.
âVidonia, Iâm in a real mess, just a walking disaster, Letitia replied, âYou need to keep your distance if you want to work easily. I donât want you getting dragged down with me.â

âBut come on, youâre the chief designer for a jewelry brand under the Ramirez Group, thatâs far from terrible! Back in school, you totally outshone me in everything! With your talent, you could start your own brand and make it rain, easy peasy. Being just a designer is practically a crime against your genius!â
Letitia could only respond with a wry smile, âVidonia, thereâs a lot youâre better off not knowing.â
âFine, fine, keep your secrets forever, if youâre so good at it!â Vidonia turned her head away, steamed up and ignoring her Letitia felt awful too, but thinking about the hot mess that was her life, she didnât want to drag Vidonia into it
Chapter 26
Seeing her actually leave, Vidonia couldnât swallow her pride enough to go after her, so she sought out Samson instead. âWhat do you want? Samson replied, âYou wanna know Letitiaâs background?â
âYeah!â
âSheâs⦠um, donât tell anyone, this is just between us.â
Vidonia, clearly impatient, said, âYeah, yeah, spill the beans already!â
âSheâs the bossâ wife, Samson said.
Vidoniaâs jaw nearly hit the floor. What!? Letitia married Elgin? Talk about striking it rich and marrying into money! Then why on earth did Letitia say her life was such a hot mess and so unhappy?
Samson cautioned, âVidonia, Iâm only telling you because I trust you, so keep your lips sealed, got it?â
âAre they happy together?â
âWell⦠I donât know. But thereâs something fishy about their relationship, itâs full of secrets.â
Vidonia pressed, âHow so?â
âHang around the office a few more days, and youâll smell somethingâs off.â
âHey, Mr. Stewart, Vidonia looked at him with disdain, âYouâre Mr. Ramirezâs best friend and you canât sniff out the gossip? Some insider of the Ramirez Group you are, pfft!â
Samson shrugged, âI know all the dirt on Gin, but his marriage is the one thing he wonât talk about.â
Back at her desk, Letitia felt like she was choking on her emotions.
Vidonia was her best friend, they shared everything, and she desperately wanted to tell her about the crap sheâd been through these years.
But whatâs the point? Itâd only drag Vidonia down with her.
âDing-dong-âA text message pinged on her phone.
It was from Elgin (Get your butt to my office.]
Resigned, Letitia stood up.
âMr. Ramirez, you wanted to see me?â she said, standing properly in front of his desk.
Elgin tossed an invitation at her, saying, âTake a look.â
Letitia picked it up, âA charity auction?â
âThatâs right.â
What did that have to do with her? At such a swanky event, she didnât have the creds to get in.
Could it beâ¦
âYouâre taking me with you?â Letitia ventured.
Elginâs lips curled in derision, sneering. âYou think you deserve to attend it?â
âNo, Iâm not.â
âGoodâ Elgin lounged back, legs crossed, âIâm taking Shela.â

âYouâre going by yourself,â he said. âFind a corner where I can see you and stay there.â
Ledonât know the reason, but she knew she had no say in the matter.
