Chapter 29
She knew that emerald bracelet like the back of her hand.
It had been on her mother Malindaâs wrist since she could remember, an heirloom from her grandma.
Malinda had said that when Letitia tied the knot, the bracelet would be hers
But then the Sanders family hit rock bottom, and every valuable thing in the house got hawked.
She never expected to see that emerald bracelet again today.
âStarting bid, two hundred thousand. May the highest bidder take it!â
Two hundred thousand! As if Letitia had that kind of money! And the crowd, all wealthy, barely gave a damn about the emerald bracelet
Then, out of the blue, a soft female voice piped up. âI bid two hundred thousand.â
Heads swiveled to the owner of the voice.
There was Letitia, holding up her bid number, resolute as ever.
âYou? Do you even have the cash?â Shela sneered, spotting her, âYou couldnât cough up two thousand, let alone two
million!â
The room erupted in laughter, and Letitia bit her
lip. She was broke, but she couldnât just stand by and watch the emerald bracelet go to someone else.
Shela blurted out loud, âMr. Auctioneer, ignore her, sheâs just stirring the pot!â
Letitia slowly lowered her bidding sign.
Sorry, Mom, Iâve failed you, couldnât keep safe your beloved bracelet.
Elgin watched Letitia thoughtfully
Just then, Walden chimed in, âThree hundred thousand.â
At that voice, Letitiaâs head snapped up. He recognized it, too!
Walden gave her a slight smile, a reassuring look. Heâd buy it and then give it to her.
The auctioneer nodded, âAlright, Mr. Sullivan bids three hundred thousand. Any advance on that?â
âWhatâs the deal, Shela muttered, âis there something special about that emerald bracelet that everyoneâs after itâ¦.â
Elgin quipped, âYou want it?â
Actually, Shela wasnât into this bracelet, but then she thought, if Letitia was dying to have it, she couldnât let her have it.
âI do!â Shela said, âMr. Ramirez, can you buy it for me?â
Elginâs lips curled up as he raised his bidding sign- âOne million.â
The bid skyrocketed, sparking a buzz throughout the crowd.
âMr. Ramirez is in the game?â
âWhatâs so special about this bracelet?â
âWhoâd dare to outbid Mr. Ramirez? Got a death wish?â
âThat braceletâs worth, at most, five hundred thousand
Eigins expression was unreadable, but his intentions were clear-he had to have that bracelet!
âGre milon the auctioneer was taken aback, âNow, Mr. Ramirez has bid one million
Letitia felt a wave of despair
way
Letitia, hitching up her skirt, walked up to Elgin, âWhy do you want it?â
âItâs none of your business why I buy anythingâ
is it for Shela?
Elginâs eyebrows quirked. âSo what if it is, or isnât?â
âThereâll be plenty more good stuff, the emerald braceletâs just the first Letitia said, softening her tone, âno need to waste your moneyâ
Elgin glanced at her replying icily, âIâm loadedâ
Letitia was speechless
âYou here to make a scene again?â Shela pushed Letitia aside, âMr. Ramirez giving me a gift is none of your business!â
âShela, you donât deserve that emerald bracelet!â
Shela was about to retort when Elgin asked coolly. âLetitia, is this bracelet important to you?â
She rarely lost her composure, always seemed to let things slide, but now she was visibly worked up
âYesâ Letitia admitted. âIt belonged to my mother
Her voice choked up
see Elgin said. âThen I have even more reason to buy it.â
Letitia clenched her dress palms sweating. Once he had it, there was no chance heâd give it to her. Because he despised the Sanders family so muchâ¦.
âAinight, Letitia nodded, âItâs your call to buy, but please, donât give it to Shela, okay?â
He scoffed. âI do with it as I please!â
Letitia was crushed
âOne million for the first time, one million for the second,â the auctioneer announced, âAny higher bids?â
Walden raised his sign, âOne and a half million.â
Elgin continued, âTwo million
Walden was about to bid again, but Letitia shook her head at him
Itâs lost cause, he could never beat Elgin
Walden was frustrated he knew too well how much that emerald bracelet meant to Letitia.
But then, his phone buzzed with a message. âDonât you dare cross Mr Ramirez! Iâve just frozen your bank account!â
It was from the Sullivan family
âSoid, for two million!â the auctioneer hammered down, âCongratulations, Mr. Ramirez!â
Shela was grinning from ear to ear. She figured tomorrowâs headlines would be all about Mr. Ramirez spending a cool Two mil on the emerald bracelet to make her smile!
A hostess carefully brought over the emerald bracelet.
Letitia closed her eyes and walked away.
What was the point of staying? To watch Elgin slip the bracelet onto Shelaâs wrist?
could only retreat somewhere private and have a good cry
Aftax crying her eyes out, sheâd have to pretend nothing happened, canât let them see her tears
Chapter 29
Elgin casually grabbed it and glanced at it.
Shela joyfully lifted her hand, waiting for Elgin to put it on her himself..
With a clank, Elgin chucked the emerald bracelet back onto the tray like he was tossing a rock, clearly not giving a
damn.
Shela was stunned, âMr Pamirez
Take it to Ivory Towers, lock it up in the safe
âYes, Mr. Pamirez
âHey, thatâs mine! Shela didnât get what was happening. Mr. Ramirez, you bought it for me, why take it back home?â
âDid I ever say it was for you?
Shela was dumbfounded
It seemed Elgin never actually promised it was for her.
He only said he would buy it, never said heâd buy it for her.
Seeing Elginâs mood was off, Shela wisely didnât press the issue.
No wares, sheâd find a way to get it from him later!
In the restroom.
Letitia leaned against the wall, head tilted back, trying not to let the tears ruin her makeup.
After composing herself, Letitia stepped out only to find Walden waiting for her..
âHere He handed her a tissue.
Thanks
âI canât take it Walden said quiltily. Elgin still ended up buying the emerald bracelet
Letitia hung her head, âWasnât that expected?â
âLetitia, no matter what, heâs your husband, he should.
âYou know how much Elgin hates the Sanders family.â
