Chapter 31
Letitia fell on the ground, and even heard her wrist snap like a twig It was dislocated.
The pain had her breaking out in cold sweats, âElgin, I swear I didnât betray youâ¦â
âShut it!â Elgin peeled off his suit jacket and roughly threw it over Letitia. Her half-bare shoulders were a sight for his eyes only! And now, now Walden got his grubby hands on her!
Damn it! They all can go to hell!
âThis is just great, looks like youâve cozied up to your ex in bed,â Elginâs forehead veins were throbbing, âLetitia, I really underestimated you!â
Walden was also slowly coming to his senses, blurting out in a panic, âMr. Ramirez, nothing happened between Letitia and me, youâve misunderstood!â
âYou call this a misunderstanding?â
âI donât know what happened,â Walden recalled, âI was clearly at the auction, how did I end up in this hotel room?â His memory was a blank slate
Struggling to remember, Walden only caught glimpses, âA waiter handed me a drink, I drank it, and then⦠everything went black. Next thing I know, Iâm waking up here.â
Elgin snorted, âSo he gets wasted and you just came in to take care of him?â
âNo, thatâs not it, I didnât even know Walden was in the room!â
âThen what are you doing here, huh?
ââ¦â Letitiaâs words stuck in her throat, stunned. She wanted to find out who the father of her child was, thatâs why she was lured here. But she couldnât let Elgin know that!
âWhatâs the matter? Canât answer that?â Elgin snapped, gripping her chin hard, âAnswer me!â
Letitia looked up at him, her eyes welling up with tears, âElgin, nothing happened between Walden and me. This is all. someone elseâs plot to frame me! Elgin, if you donât believe me, we can go to the hospital for a check-up right now! See if Iâve been touched by a man tonight!â
Walden quickly added, âIâll cooperate with any tests.â
âYes,â Letitia said with resolve in her eyes, âthe innocent have nothing to hide!â
Elginâs gaze swept back and forth between the two. Even if Letitia had the guts of a burglar, she wouldnât dare betray him, but this scene had indeed unfolded.
âFine, weâll check, Elgin scoffed, âLetitia, donât forget your mother is still in my hands!â
He grabbed Letitia by the shoulder and hauled her up. âLetâs go!â
âLetitia!â Walden called out anxiously, trying to follow.
âCome after us and youâre a dead man!â
Elgin moved swiftly, practically dragging Letitia along.
At the hospital, the results came back quickly â Letitia didnât have any sex activity.
âI told you, thereâs nothing between Walden and me.â
Elgin tossed the medical report in her face, the paper fluttering down to the ground
Letitia, he hissed through clenched teeth, ânothing happened because there wasnât enough time, right? What if I had been five minutes later⦠what then, huh?â
Letitia laughed out of sheer rage, glaring at him, âHow could I possibly have anything to do with Walden behind your back? He was my ex-fiancé who dumped me and went abroad. Now, weâre business rivals!â
Because thatâs just the kind of woman you are, Letitia! A real piece of work!â
His words felt like needles piercing her heart, shattering her self-esteem.
Elginâs face was a mask of fury, âYou and Walden have been flirting right under my nose, you think Iâm blind? I step away for one second, and you couldnât wait to jump into bed with him
âWhy insult me with these words⦠why,â Letitia closed her eyes, holding back tears, âI wonât get involved with another
man before our divorce!â
âLetitia, even after the divorce, youâre not allowed!â
She bowed her head in bitterness, âYes, my life is in your hands.â
âThatâs right! You owe me! Youâre here to pay off the Sanders familyâs debts!â
Letitia clenched her fists, suppressing her roiling emotions, her resolve to uncover the truth growing even stronger!
One day⦠sheâll throw the evidence in Elginâs face, proving she never owed him anything!
That day will come!
Back at Ivory Towers, Elgin chucked Letitia into the bathtub.
Water splashed everywhere. Letitia choked several times, struggling to emerge from the water only to be pushed back down by Elgin.
âGet yourself cleaned up, Elgin said.
After a few repeats, Elgin was soaked too, but he didnât care.
Letitia was out of strength, slumped over the edge of the tub.
âListen up,â Elgin leaned down, gripping her chin, âthe Ramirez Group is holding a press conference tomorrow to announce the launch of our new jewelry brand âRamirez Romanticaâ. Weâre going to compete directly with âSunbeam Gemsâ from the Sullivan Group.
So Letitia, if you and Walden dare to meet in secret again, youâll be branded as corporate spies! Ramirez Romantica will overtake Sunbeam Gems, and when that happens⦠Waldenâs going to have a bad time! I wonât let him off the hook!â
Hearing this, Letitia chuckled. Her amusement seemed to irritate Elgin, who tightened his hold on her. âWhat exactly are you laughing at?â he demanded.
She suddenly looked up at him, slightly mocking, âElgin, are you jealous?â
He paused, replying disdainfully, âJealous? Why would I!â
âBut you sure look like a man crazed with love, Letitia laughed at herself, âYou donât love me, so why are you so mad?
âBecause youâre mine, even if you die, youâll be mine!â
Letitia reached up, gripping his wrist, provoking him on purpose, âElgin⦠with your possessiveness over me, Iâm scared youâll fall for me one day.â
âThe entire worldâs women could die off, and I still wouldnât touch you!â
Elgin shook off her hand and stormed out.
Letitia breathed a sigh of relief. She had to be more careful from now on, not to let Shelaâs trap succeed again.
At the Ramirez Group.
The launch of âRamirez Romantica went off without a hitch, with Elgin himself in attendance, and Samson there too. This is basically a shout-out that the Ramirez Group is focused on their jewelry brand âRamirez Romanticaâ!
The moment the news hit the streets, the Sullivan Groupâs stock took a nosedive straight to rock bottom.
In the staff canteen, Letitia was having lunch while watching the live stream of the press conference.
âEating just that, huh?â Vidonia plopped down with her tray, eyeing Letitiaâs plate, âNot a single piece of meat in sight?â
like veggies
âCut the crap, I know youâre broke. Stop fronting.â
With that, Vidonia forked over her chicken wings and beef onto Letitiaâs plate.
Letitia was a bit flustered.
âGo ahead, youâre too skinny.â
âVidoniaâ¦â
âCall me a sucker.â Vidonia poked at her food, âIâm basically throwing myself at you, making sure youâre taken care of.â
Letitiaâs eyes welled up, and she hugged her tight, âVidonia, Iâm so lucky to have you.â
âLet me ask again, Letitia, Vidonia said solemnly, âDo you still want me to be your friend?â
She nodded furiously, âYes! Absolutely!
âAlright then, Vidonia said, âfrom now on, no more ghosting me, got it?â
âGot it.â
Swiftly holding back her tears, Vidonia spoke with a hint of disdain, âPull yourself together, Letitia, donât cryâ
Letitia flashed a sweet smile at her.
âLook at you, still can smile, huh?â Shela sauntered over, âLetitia, if I were you, Iâd be too mortified to show my face. around here.â
