Chapter 38
Elgin bent down and helped Shela to her feet.
Years ago, because of Dr. Sandersâ screw-up, he had already lost a father he respected Now, history seemed to be chillingly repeating itself.
How could Elgin let Shela go through the same ordeal as him? After all, Mark was going to be his father-in-law.
âLetitia, you have to donate blood,â Elgin said, his eyes and brows icy cold, âYou donât have a say in this.â

There it was again. She was always at his beck and call, living like a puppet!
âSo, whether itâs my fault or not, I have to donate blood to save him?â Letitiaâs voice trembled as she asked, âIs that right?â
âYesâ
âEven if donating blood could seriously harm my health, youâd still insist on it?â
Elgin narrowed his eyes slightly. Itâs just drawing blood, and youâll recover after a couple of days.â
âYeah, right, Shela chimed in quickly, âItâs not going to kill you or damage your health, Letitia, please save my father!â
Letitia didnât buy that for a second. From the moment she met Mark, she had fallen into their trap!
Elgin didnât know she was pregnant, but they were crystal clear about it! How could a pregnant woman donate blood? Besides, Shela would surely bribe the nurse to take a lot of her blood!
âGo nowâ Elgin ordered sternly, âNurse, take her.â
Letitia turned and ran.
Elgin stood still, uttering just one sentence, âYou know what the consequences of running away are.â
Her legs felt as if they were cemented to the ground, unable to lift. Her mother was in his hands, her father was in jail, and his injury from boiling water had just healedâ¦
That was something Elgin had allowed Shela to do. He had Shelaâs back.
âItâs just a few vials of blood, it wonât cost you your life,â Elgin said. âCooperate and itâll be easier on you.â
Letitia closed her eyes in despair, âYouâll never understand.â
âWhatâs there to understand?â he asked, âTell me.â
Shela echoed, âYeah, tell us.â
She knew Letitia wouldnât dare reveal her pregnancy!
Sure enough, Letitia fell silent.
âThe blood donation room is this way,â the nurse approached, âCome with me.â
The nurse seemed to be holding Letitiaâs hand, but in reality, she was dragging her along forcefully.
Letitia looked back.
Shela was bowing her head, Elgin was comforting her, his hand on her shoulder.
From Letitiaâs angle, she could see the smirk on Shelaâs face.
Inside the blood donation room.
Letitia shuddered unconsciously at the sight of the long needle in the nurseâs hand.
She was terrified, had always been scared of injections, let alone blood drawing.
She wanted to run, to scream, but Elginâs threat forced her to sit in the chair, enduring both physical and emotional
torture
âHow much are you going to take? Letitia swallowed hard.
âOh, as much as is needed.â As the nurse spoke, the needle pierced into her vein.
Red blood flowed continuously from her body into the blood bag.
âThatâs enough!â Letitia said, âYou can only take that much at a time!â
But the nurse didnât stop, even holding her arm down, âDonât move, itâs not my fault if you get hurt.â
âStop, itâs too much nowâ¦â Letitiaâs words sounded especially feeble.
The nurse took a full six hundred milliliters, âThat should do it.â
Letitia bit her lower lip, feeling cold and weak all over.
A normal person could only donate four hundred at most, but she, a pregnant woman, had six hundred milliliters taken
in one go.
Shela⦠what a cunning plan!
It probably wouldnât stop at this one time; there would be a next time, and the time after that! Until her body was too weak to keep the child!
Footsteps came from the doorway Elgin walked in, âDone?â
âYes, the nurse replied respectfully, âIâll take it to the emergency room right away.â
Elgin waved his hand dismissively.
He stood in front of Letitia, Mark had a stroke because of you, so you donating the blood is only fair.â
âDo you even know how much blood they took from me?â
Elgin spoke indifferently, âAs much as was needed.â
He didnât care, what mattered was saving a life.
Letitia gave a pale smile, âHeh⦠after all, Mark is your future father-in-law, his life means more to you than mine
âI have no father anymore, I canât let Shela lose hers too.â
She couldnât help but ask, âWhat the hell does Shela have that sheâs so favored by you?â
âBecause sheâs my woman.â
Because they had slept together, because Shela had solved his problem with her body.
Letitia trembled, asking, âAnd what about me? What am I?â
âLetitia, youâre here to atone, not to enjoy yourself.â
She looked at Elginâs handsome face, feeling cold and hopeless.
He lowered his head, saying, â⦠Your father killed mine, do you also want to kill Shelaâs father? I wonât let that happen
âI didnât hurt him!â Letitia enunciated each word, âI didnât do anything!â
âIâve seen the security footage, he just wanted to give you a gift, with a smile. But you?â Elgin asked, âYou pushed him away, you were upset, and you even broke the gift.â
âWhy would I accept his gift for no reason?â
âMark had good intentions. You rejected them, pushed him away, broke the gift, leading to his emotional distress and stroke. So, itâs your fault.â Elgin looked at her, âYour blood donation to save him is justified.â
What a way to be justified. It felt like a knife cutting into her.
Mark and Shela had set up this whole scenario, targeting her.
No matter how much she was alerted, she had still failen into their trap. The current situation was totally against
âI was framed,â Letitiaâs voice choked up. âThe one who framed me knows how wronged I am.
Chapter 38
But no one believed her.
She wanted to touch her belly, hoping the child was still safe, but Elgin was right there, and she didnât dare to make the
gesture:
Letitia slowly stood up. âIâll go first.â
Elgin looked on impassively.
She didnât press on the spot where she had donated blood, and drops of fresh blood were visible against her pale skin.
Letitia felt so dizzy it was severe, barely managing to walk to the door, unable to hold on any longer, her vision going
dark.
Just before she fell, a pair of hands caught her, âLetitia!â
She tried hard to open her eyes but ultimately passed out.
Her babyâ¦
Elgin looked at the woman in his arms, his brows deeply furrowed.
Sheâs super skinny, and her cheeks are totally pale. But⦠is he actually feeling sorry for her? He shouldnât be getting all
emotional over her!
âMr. Ramirez, the bloodâs been taken to the ER, Shela hurried over, âWhoa, whatâs happened to Letitia? Iâll help her to the
break room.
âWell.â Elgin handed Letitia over to her and took off from the hospital.
When Letitia came to, it was already night time.
