Chapter 39
She opened her eyes and heard Shela say, âFinally awake, huh? Tough cookie, arenât you? Looks like we can take a bit more blood from you.â
âYou still want my blood!â
âOh, come on, donât play innocent. Your little stunt landed my dad in the hospital with a stroke, so youâve got to own up to it. Donating blood is the least you can do, and Mr. Ramirez agrees
Letitia struggled to sit up, âWhat a sick play you and your father have put on!â
âYep, serves you right for being so gullible and for insisting on keeping that baby!â Shela walked over to the bedside, âLetitia, if you just play ball and get rid of it, I could let you off the hook.â
She clenched her teeth, âNot happening.â
This child was her own flesh and blood, she wanted to keep it.
Then weâll just keep taking your blood and see how long you can protect yourself, let alone the baby!â
âShela, youâre so hell-bent on me getting rid of the child because of the father, right?â Letitia guessed.
Shelaâs face changed for a moment but quickly denied it, âNo!â
âI guessed right.â
âHa, keep dreaming. Shela said mockingly, âThe father of this little mistake is just some ugly, fat old man.â
âIâm not that easy to fool. That nightâ¦.
Letitia had a vivid memory. Even in the dark, although she couldnât see his face, but judging by his voice, physique, and the faint scent on him, the man was a high-caliber, classy guy.
Plus, he had promised he would marry her. Such a man could never be an ugly, fat old-timer.
âYou have the nerve to mention that night!â Shela seethed with jealousy, âShameless woman! Threw away all your decency!â
Letitia smirked sarcastically, The ones with no shame are you and your father. I was just fine in the psych ward; it was. you who shipped me off to that hotel!â
âThat didnât mean you could just sleep with any guy!â
âShela, if I spill the beans to Elginâ¦â
âYou wouldnât dare!â Shela shrieked, âThen Iâll reveal your pregnancy and have Mr. Ramirez get rid of the child himself!â
Letitia looked away coldly and got out of bed.
âWhere do you think youâre going?â Shela blocked her, âUntil my dad is up and well, youâre staying in the hospital, ready to be tapped for blood at any time!
Letitia shook off her hand and walked out with determination.
After grabbing a bite at a restaurant outside the hospital, she finally felt some strength return.
âMrs. Ramirez, a shadow fell in front of her, and Ranen stood there, âMr. Ramirez sent me to take you back to Ivory
Towers.â
She nodded, âJust let me finish.â
She felt like crying, but she had no right to tears; her tears didnât worth anything.
Back at Ivory Towers, Letitia was hungry again.
But it was so late, where could she find food?
She searched the kitchen and finally found a thermos on the table, with nourishing soup that Phedra brought daily.
Chapter 39
Perfect! She had just been drained of blood and needed to replenish her nutrients!
Letitia couldnât wait to dig in when Elginâs voice came from the doorway, âWait.â
She turned and glanced at him.
âWhatâs up?â Letitia asked emotionlessly, âAm I not even allowed to eat now?â
Elgin walked over with a stern face and took the thermos, âEat anything you want, just not this.â
âWhy? You used to force this on me! Nowâ¦â Now that she needed to recuperate, he forbade it!
The frustrations of the whole day couldnât be held back anymore.
Letitia challenged him, âElgin, do I have any rights as a person? What do you want from me? You meddle even when I find something to eat in the middle of the night? Have you got nothing better to do? How much longer do you want to
torment me?â
Elginâs expression turned dark as the deep sea, âYou dare talk to me like that? Ungrateful woman!â
He didnât let her eat it for her own good! The soup was drugged! And yet, Letitia took his concern for granted! He was truly unappreciated!
âHave you ever been good to me? Letitia countered, âYou just find new ways to humiliate me!â
âYou donât appreciate kindness when you see it!â
With a wave of his hand, Elgin snatched the thermos and sent it crashing to the floor. Soup splashed everywhere.
The commotion alerted the butler, who hurried to the kitchen, unsure what to say at the scene, âUm, Mr. Ramirezâ¦â
âGet lost!â
âYes, yes.
âTell Phedra, no more soup from today! Nobody wants it!â
The butler complied, âRight away.â
It was strange, the butler thought. He had asked Mr. Ramirez before if they should stop accepting the soup, and Mr. Ramirez had said to keep it.
Why the sudden change of heart today!
Letitia bit her lower lip, it was hard for her to keep the tears from falling
Elgin tormented her, bullied her, demanded her penance, supported Shela, forced her to be bled to save Shelaâs fatherâ¦.
She truly hated him.
âElgin, if one day, you realize⦠you should have never treated me this way,â Letitia looked up defiantly at him, âhow much will you regret it?â
âRegret? That word doesnât exist in my dictionary!â
Letitia took a deep breath and closed her eyes, âHow much longer till you marry Shela? Letâs get a divorce soon, Iâm willing to go back to the psych ward, locked up for life.â
âYou think you can just go back? Youâ¦â
âI donât have a choice.â Letitia cut him off, âThatâs what youâre going to say, right?â
Elgin squinted at her, grabbing her chin forcefully, âLetitia, your sharp tongue, itâs because you canât stand it, right? What. a little bloodletting and youâre upset?â
âBecause I didnât cause Markâs condition, I have no obligation to save him with my blood.â
âThe surveillance footage is crystal clear!
Letina asked, âIs what you see always the truth? Forget it, Elgin, you donât trust me, thereâs no point in talking more
Chapter 39
Elgin snorted and let her go. âEven if it wasnât you, you still have to give him your blood. Your life is worth nothing!â
He tumed and left.
Letitia looked down at the broken pieces on the floor, stepped over them, and continued to look for food in the fridge.
After filling her stomach, she returned to the master bedroom and lay down on the floor by the bed.
Curled up, she held her belly tightly with both hands.
No idea how long sheâd been out, Letitia was in a half-asleep daze when she heard footsteps outside, getting closer
and closer.
Letitia wanted to open her eyes, but she felt like she had no strength at all.
âLetitia, get up here!â It was Elginâs voice
She mumbled a response but didnât move a muscle.
Seeing Letitia still knocked out and hearing the footsteps almost at the door, Elgin couldnât fuss about it anymore. He grabbed her by the shoulders and hauled her up onto the bed.
Just as he tucked Letitia into the blankets, the door swung open.
There stood Hawley, leaning on his cane, with a grin on his face, âYou guys are still not up, huh?â
