Chapter 43
It was an accident! She didnât want this to happen either!
Elgin snorted with a hint of frost, âYou think I canât see whatâs going on?â
Letitia rolled her eyes in frustration, âThink whatever you want, Iâm going to bed.â
No sooner had her words faded than Elgin dipped down and sealed her lips with his. The wispy strands of hair from his forehead fell, tickling her eyes and causing a distracting itch.
This time, Elginâs kiss was gentle as a feather touch. Not like before, when he was all rough and forceful.
Just as Letitiaâs hand lifted in a feeble attempt to push him away, he caught it and hoisted it over her head.
âShould I grant your wish?â Elginâs voice was a low growl, âSo you donât have to scheme to seduce meâ
âI didnât⦠mmph.â
Suddenly, Elgin turned rough again, his kiss fierce enough to draw blood from her lips.
Letitiaâs brows knitted in pain. The more she resisted, the harder he pressed down on her.
Out of options, Letitia bit him hard, and the taste of blood filled both of their mouths.
As Elgin pulled back, his hands braced beside her ears, he stared into her eyes with an unfathomable depth, not even blinking.
A drop of blood adorned the corner of his mouth, giving him a dangerously enticing look.
Letitia couldnât fathom his thoughts and kept silent.
Elgin was a ticking bomb one wrong word and sheâd be in for a world of hurt.
After what felt like an eternity, Elgin finally spoke, ââ¦Sometimes I really wish youâd succeed in seducing me. But I canât give you what you want!â
He raised his hand and cleaned the blood on her lips.
Letitia maintained her silence.
This version of Elgin was the most dangerous, looking like he could blow a fuse at any given moment.
He got up to leave, his voice icy, âGet dressed!â
Looking down, Letitia realized that in the scuffle, her neckline had become loose, exposing the soft curves underneath.
She quickly covered up and dashed into the bathroom for cover.
Best not to cross paths with Elgin right now!
Facing her reflection in the mirror, with blood on her lips, her hair a mess, and her cheeks flushed like blooming peach blossoms⦠anyone could tell what had just happened.
About to turn on the tap, she heard the ringtone of a cellphone outside.
Elgin answered, âHello?â
Then, he rapped on the door, âLetitia, get to the hospital.â
Something felt off to her, and she asked, âWhat happened?â
Markâs condition has suddenly worsened. They need you, be prepared for a blood draw!â
Letitia clenched her teeth.
Worsened? She guessed it was Shela and her fatherâs plan to bleed her dry!
Three days of blood draws, no one could save the baby in her belly!
Come out! Did you hear me? Elginâs voice grew louder as there was no response, âLetitia!â
Chapter 43
Unexpectedly, Letitia opened the door swiftly, âAlright, letâs go.â
Her willingness to cooperate took Elgin by surprise.
After a brief pause, he turned, âFollow me!â
Outside the ICU.
Shela was still sobbing, âMr. Ramirez, if anything happens to my day, what should we do⦠Iâve been worried sick these past few days, canât eat, canât sleep, Iâm terrified of losing him.â
âIt wonât happen, Elgin consoled her.
She clung to Elginâs arm, refusing to let go. Elgin frowned but didnât push her away.
The doctor appeared, âThe patientâs condition is still critical, and thereâs a shortage in the cityâs blood supply, soâ¦â
The implication was clear, they still needed Letitiaâs blood to save the day.
Shela feigned concern, âLetitia, Iâm counting on you. Even though itâs your fault my dad is like this, heâll definitely thank you once heâs better.â
Letitia stood firm, unmoved.
âMr. Ramirez.. Shela quickly sought backup, âPlease, say something, help me out here.â
Elgin glanced at Letitia.
He knew what drawing blood for three consecutive days meant.
Yet, he still said, âLetitia, go and have your blood drawn.â
âOkay.â Letitia agreed. Her prompt response was a stark contrast to her earlier reluctance.
Shela was taken aback, You⦠you agreed?â
âYeah, Iâm willing to help, Letitia replied. âBut, before we do that, I have a small request.â
Elgin nodded, âGo ahead.â
âI want to see the director first. I need to see how heâs doing to feel at ease.â
Shela objected, âNo way.â
She didnât understand why Letitia had suddenly made this request, but she knew she couldnât let anyone see her dad.
What if⦠they found out the truth? Her dad never had a stroke! This was all a lie!
âWhy not?â Letitia pressed. âI just want to take a quick look, and you wonât agree? Is there something you donât want people to see?â
âOf course not! Itâs just that I, Iâ¦â Caught off guard by Letitiaâs question, Shela was at a loss for words.
âThen let me in. I feel so guilty for causing your fatherâs stroke with my emotional outburst.â
âOnce heâs better, you canâ¦â
âFine, Elgin cut in, âgo ahead, two minutes.â
With Elginâs permission, Shela had no choice.
Any more resistance would seem too deliberate and arouse suspicion.
So, Shela said, âThen⦠Iâll go in too!â
âSure,â Letitia nodded. âLetâs all go in together. After all these days, we should know exactly how your father is doing.â Before Shela could react, Letitia, pulling Elgin along, stepped into the ICU.
Shela, frustrated, hurriedly followed.
in the ICU, Mark lay on the bed, his forehead wrapped in bandages, surrounded by medical equipment. He seemed to be
a grave condition.
Letitia approached the bed squatted down, and took Markâs hand, Iâm really sorry, sit. If only Iâd known you were sick, I wouldâve accepted your gift. Ah, itâs all my faultâ
While feigning regret, she surreptitiously squeezed his hand.
Markâs hand was warm an unconscious patient shouldnât have such warmth!
Letitia pinched Markâs hand hard, and his eyes fluttered.
Bingo! If Mark woke up, thereâd be no need for a blood draw. And who knows, maybe she could even expose their scheme!
Just as Letitia was about to squeeze harder, Shela suddenly rushed over, âStay away from my dad!â She was about to shove Letitia away
Letitia was still gripping Markâs hand, not letting go for anything
âWhatâs the big deal? Iâm just having a chat with the director, Letitia said. âDonât freak out on me. The guyâs got tubes all over him; donât mess things up!â
âTalk is talk, but keep your hands off my dad!â
Shela was pushing hard against Letitia, who was clinging onto Markâs hand for dear life.
The two were having a silent tug-of-war
