Chapter 47
Hawley took a couple of steps forward and reached out to grab it, âWhatâs this?â
The moment he saw it, he was over the moon, âWhoa! Thatâs the way to go, Letitia, you are pregnant!â
Elginâs face darkened considerably.
Lost In his joy, Hawley was oblivious to the weird vibes and just kept yapping, âI just knew it, a woman doesnât just throw up for no reason. Iâm going to have great-grandson!â
He pressed his hands together, his face alight with excitement and gratitude.
âLetitia, even though youâre the enemy of our Ramirez clan, a sinner, this is your golden ticket to redemption. You better take good care of that kid, bring it into the world without a hitch!â
She didnât know what to say just kept mum
âDid you hear me? Hawleyâs face was stern as he said, âAs long as you can keep the Ramirez legacy going, I might just consider.. setting Dr. Sanders free.â
Elgin snapped, âGrandpa, what are you talking about!â
âThe Sanders family took a life from the Ramirez clan, itâs only right they pay one back! You canât bring back the dead, so sheâs gotta give birth! One, two, three, however many, as long as she can pop âem out, the Ramirez clan can foot the
bill!
Hawley was all about keeping the bloodline going. Now that Elginâs career is sky-high, he needs an heir to carry on the Ramirez empire.
Letitia asked, âSo, if I have Elginâs child, my father will be released?â
âYes, Hawley nodded, âMy word is bond. In this house, I still call the shots!â
At that moment, Letitia wished so bad that the baby was Elginâs. That way, her father could walk free, and the baby would be born with a silver spoon in its mouth, set for life.
But sadly⦠it wasnât to be.
âI get it,â Letitiaâs eyelashes fluttered, âI⦠Iâll do my best not to let you down.â
âWhatâs this âdo my bestâ nonsense, itâs a must, a must! Butler!â
âAt your service, Mr. Hawley.â
âMake sure Letitia gets all the right nutrition during her pregnancy. If thereâs any screw up, Iâll be holding you
accountable!â
âYes sir, the butler replied.
After more nagging, Hawley finally left, content. As soon as he was gone, Ivory Towers fell into a silence as deep as the grave. Elginâs eyes were even darker than the night.
He stood face to face with Letitia, with no one else around.
âWhy didnât you tell grandpa that the baby isnât yours?â Letitia asked, âYou had the chance just now.â
âIn front of all those people, Iâm supposed to announce that youâve cheated on me?â
Proud and noble Elgin, how could he allow himself to be humiliated, to lose face!
âBut nowâ¦â
âThe baby, itâs gotta go!â
Letitia suddenly dropped to her knees before him. This was the first time she ever knelt down willingly, her voice low, begging him-
Elgin, please, spare this child. I just want him to come into this world safely. Iâll take him far away from you, it wonât be a

bother. Besides, weâre getting divorced in two months. If⦠you canât explain to your grandpa, after this child is born, I dan bare another child for you! Please, this child means everything to me.â
Elgin looked down at her.
She knelt straight, but he was unmoved, his face the epitome of indifference.
âLetitia, youâre playing your cards a bit too well, arenât you?â he scoffed, âAnother child for me? That way you get to save your troublemaker in your belly, leave a kid in the Ramirez family, and save your dad. Three birds with one stone! You sure are cunning!â
She reached out, grabbing onto his trouser leg. âBut this child is a life too, how can you be so heartless?â
âItâs just a bastard, doomed to be a slave!â
Elgin gripped her wrist, yanking her up forcefully.
Letitia struggled desperately, âI wonât go to the hospital!â
âYou donât have a say!â
Suddenly, a ringtone cut through the tension.
Hawleyâs voice came through, âElgin! What are you doing? Letitiaâs pregnant, go easy on her, and donât hurt her. Think of the baby!â
âGrandpa, your eyes and ears sure are dedicated. Itâs like youâre everywhere!â
âItâs all for the kid, you need to cool that temper. Hawley said, âAlright, take Letitia back to her room to rest, enough drama.â
He wanted her to abort the baby, but Hawley wanted to keep the baby.
âAs your grandpa, Iâm asking you, Hawley softened his tone, âLosing my son at an old age, Iâve suffered enough, and I really want to have a great-grandkid.â
Elgin hung up without a trace of emotion. He married Letitia, the enemyâs daughter, because Phedra backed him into al corner, leaving him no other choice.
Now, to tell grandpa that the baby isnât even his? What would that make him?
This secret should be between him and Letitia only, no one else!
âYou got lucky.â Elgin gritted his teeth, âYou can keep the baby, for now!â
Letitia heaved a sigh of relief, collapsing to the floor.
It was only temporary, who knew what the future held, but for now⦠she was safe. She had time to figure out a way to protect her child.
She remembered that the babyâs father had promised to marry her, but where was him? She was close to breaking point
on her own.
The Ramirez Group.
Today was payday, so the office was buzzing.
Everyone was in high spirits, and Letitia also received her first paycheck.
She had been on the job for less than a month and didnât expect much, but when she saw the number, she was gobsmacked.
âMr. Stewart, Letitia headed for Samsonâs office, âIs there a mistake with my paycheck?â
âThere shouldnât be any mistake, finance checked itâ
âBut itâs ten thousand bucksâ
Samson nodded. âYup. Itâs gonna be higher this month, and itâs only gonna keep on climbing. The Ramirez Group is the crean; of the crop in AquaCity-they never let their employees down when it comes to paycheck.â

Letitia blinked. Oh god, this is one sweet deal.
âHa ha ha, Elgin might be taking you for granted, but not me. I truly value you, Samson chuckled. âYouâre my head designer, and âRamirez Romanticaâ wouldnât be the same without you. Plus, youâll be getting a cut of the profits, youâre on your way to being loaded!â
Loaded? Letitia didnât dare to think that far; her life was filled with too many question marks and curveballs.
âThanks, Mr. Stewart.â Letitia was genuinely grateful. âIâll do my best.â
âWhy the formality? Youâre practically the lady of the house here. Besides, you and Vidonia are besties, so itâs cool if I play favorites, right?â
Samsonâs smart and kind, and he was funny and charming to boot.
Letitia blinked, âMe and Vidonia are besties, but whatâs that got to do with you, Mr. Stewart? Donât tell me⦠youâve got a thing for Vidonia?â
