Chapter 49
Unable to contain her emotions, tears streamed down Letitiaâs face.
When she was at the end of her rope, a miracle happened.
âThank you, thank you. Letitia kept saying, âThis money means so much to me.
With these forty grand, plus her ten grand salary, her mom could get her pill this month!
Walden asked, âWhat do you need the money for?â
âMy mom woke up,â Letitia said. âShe needs her special medicine.â
Walden was just as thrilled, âReally? Thatâs fantastic! Letitia, can I go visit her?â
She needed Elginâs approval just to see her own mom. Let alone Walden. But sheâd lied to her mom, saying she and Walden were together, so she had to drag him along to show face.
âNot just yet, Letitia replied. âWhen thereâs a chance, Iâll let you know.â
âAlright.â Walden nodded. âLetitia, youâve got your mom back.â
That comment had Letitia bawling. Her lifeâs been so damn tough, but the stars aligned just a little, bringing her mom
back to her
Yeah, Iâve got my mom now, Letitia whispered. âIâm not alone.â
Money in hand, Letitia dashed to the hospital, to pay up and get the meds.
She implored the doc, Please, give it to her ASAP. Iâll find a way to cover next monthâs meds, I promise.â
âSure thing.
Î
Letitiaâs heart could finally rest.
By the time she finished up and got back to Ivory Towers, it was already night. She walked into the living room, the servants silently bustling, not daring to make a peep.
âMrs. Ramirez, youâre back, the butler said. âMr. Ramirez is waiting upstairs for you.â
âI know.â Letitia headed to the master bedroom.
The lengthy hallway was eerily silent, to the point where she could hear her own heartbeat.
She pushed open the master bedroom door and caught Elginâs gaze, sharp as a knife, fixed on her.
âYouâre back?
âYeah.â She swallowed hard, inching closer, and when she saw the neat stack of fifty grand by Elgin, she covered her mouth in shock.
But Elgin just smirked, âThatâs your money, so what are you scared of?â
That smile sent shivers down her spine. The cash sheâd just dropped at the hospital was now in Elginâs hands.
âWhat did you do instead of getting the abortion?â Elginâs smile deepened âTell me, whereâd you get all that cash?â
The broader his smile appeared to be, the deeper his inner fury simmered!
Letitia almost wished for Elginâs rage instead of this eerie calm.
â..I borrowed it.â
Whoâd lend to you, huh?â Elgin pressed. âWhoâd dare?â
icfitiaâs mind faced, blurting out, âSamson.â
Sorry, Mr. Stewart, she thought, but she had to throw him under the bus Because he was Elginâs friend, nothing would Come of it.

âAre you sure? Elgin leaned in, his eyes dangerous.
Looking into Elginâs eyes, Letitia realized, he already knew the score.
Just as she opened her mouth, Elgin grabbed a wad of cash and flung it in her face.
âIâve checked your bank account, Letitia, It was Walden who gave you the money!â
The cash fluttered, smacking her face, then drifting to the floor.
âGreat, just great, Elgin threw the rest of the cash, âI let you off my sight for a few minutes and youâre hitting up an old flame for help, you really do surprise me!â
Letitia tried to explain, âI didnât go to Walden, I just bumped into him.â
âReally? Quite the coincidence! Letitia, you always have excuses!â
Elgin kicked the coffee table over, stood up with veins bulging on his forehead.
âThis is the money I gave to the hospital, Elgin, what right do you have to take it?!â
âBecause itâs useless without my say-so. The doctors wonât dispense the meds!â
Letitia was shaking all over. Sheâd barely scraped together the money, thinking itâd ease her momâs suffering, only to be stopped by Elgin.
He was too powerful, his influence too vast.
âYou wouldnât lend me the money, fine, but why do thisâ¦â Letitia looked at him, âCanât you have a shred of mercy, just a little bit of pity for me?â
Even if it was nothing more than a passing notion of mercy. Just once, to give her a break, to spare her from such. relentless hardship in this harsh world.
But Elgin didnât. He was only ever more ruthless, never less.
âWho do you think you are? Letitia, did marrying me make you forget your place?â
âI know, Iâm the enemy of the Ramirez family, and Iâm here to atoneâ¦â That confession was incredibly hard for Letitia. âBut Elgin, whatever cruel treatment youâve subjected me to, Iâve endured it, never complaining. My mother is innocent, though, sheâs finally woken up, and I just want her to receive her treatment, recover slowly, and live a few more years with me. I just want to be someone who has a mom too.â Tears streamed down her face as she spoke.
Letitia always kept her composure in front of him, never wanted to cry, but now, it was just too much. She squatted down, fighting to keep her eyes wide open, not letting tears blur her vision, picking up the bills one by one
Elgin could toss them, could trample her dignity, not caring about the money. But she didnât have that luxury. The money mattered to her.
His dress shoes lifted and fell, stepping on the money in Letitiaâs hand.
The kid youâre carrying, itâs Waldenâs, right?â
âNo.â She shook her head.
âYou think Iâd believe that?â
âBelieve it or not,â Letitia said. âLet go, thatâs my money.â
Elgin grabbed her off the floor, staring her down, âYours? Letitia, what Elgin grabbed her off the floor, staring her down, âYours? Letitia, what do you have? I fed you, dressed you, gave you a job, let you live in my house, even your life is thine!
Her eyes glistened with tears, âWhat do you want?â
Donât borrow money again, itâs pointless. Whoever lends it, it wonât reach the hospital, only I can make it happen. âI want my child, and i want rny mother too.â
People who get too greedy often end up with nothingâ Flairâs breath hit her face âetitio you want it all bust imuthur anal
Chapter 49
you might end up with nothing!â
Her tears dropped onto Elginâs hand, he frowned in disgust and wiped it away.
âYouâre really not gonna get anything out of this. I have to terminate this pregnancy. And your mom, you canât afford her medical billsâ
Elgin just walked right past her, making his exit. Letitia stood there, staring at the money at her feet.
The roar of the sports car echoed through the whole Ivory Towers, then gradually faded away.
Elgin had left the building.
Letitia slowly squatted down, hugged her knees, buried her face in the crook of her arm, and silently shed tears.
Completely alone, she didnât even allow herself the luxury of letting out a good cry.
