Chapter 51
âDoes she deserve it?
Shela barely had time to feel relieved before she heard Elgin say, âSheâs strapped for cash, and instead of hitting me up, she runs to Walden Sullivanâ¦she loves him so much!â
âLetitia borrowed money from Walden?â
âYeah to buy her mom some meds! Elgin clenched his fist and slammed it down on the coffee table before staggering to his feet.
Seeing his state, Shela thought sheâd better assist him in getting to a hotel. Even if she has to play pretend and pass herself off as Letitia sheâs got to fool Elgin!
She canât wait any longer, opportunityâs knocking!
Shela got up, about to lend a hand to Elgin.
Out of nowhere, Samson, who had been off the radar for a bit, reappeared and blocked her path, âWhoa, whoa, whatâs the rush?â
Shela knew who he was and didnât want to stir the pot, so she plastered on a smile and replied, âMr. Stewart, I was just about to take Mr. Ramirez to get some restâ
âNo need to trouble yourself, Iâll take him home
âMr. Stewart, itâs really no trouble at all! How can I make you go through all that? I can handle the heavy lifting!â
But Samson still barred her way. âGinâs a married man now, canât just be crashing at random places. A manâs got to watch his own back when heâs out and about, canât let someone take advantageâ
Shelaâs smile faded Samson was clearly at odds with her!
âMr Stewart. Iâm not just some random girl, Iâm Mr. Ramirezâs
Samson cut her off, clearly out of patience, Alright, alright, step aside.â
He couldnât stand the sight of Shela
Managing the affairs of âRamirez Romanticaâ was enough of a headache, and now Elgin had him handling the film division too.
That division was all about Shela, dedicated to catering to her. It was just more work piling on his plate
And then there was the charity auction where Shela, claiming Letitia had stained her dress, tried to strip Letitia down then and there,
which only added to Samsonâs dislike.
He couldnât stand women who bullied their way around using their status
âMan, Gin, youâre lucky Iâm here, or youâd have ended up in a whole lot of trouble tonight. Samson helped him into the car, âAlmost fell prey to some cheap tan!â
Elgin propped his head with his hand, âDrink⦠get me a drinkâ¦
Samson buckled him in before driving back to Ivory Towers
Seeing them arrive, the butler rushed to help, âMr. Ramirez!â
But Elgin shoved him away, âBack off, donât touch me!â
âHe just wants Letitia,â said Samson, Just hand him over to her and Iâm outta here!
The door of the master bedroom swung open, Letitia woke up with a start and sat up immediately
She could smell the strong scent of alcohol
âElgin?â Letitia turned on the light, âWhy are you drinking again?â
âMrs. Ramirez, please take care of him Iâll have the kitchen make a hangover cure
âOkay
Letitia helped Elgin to the bed, took off his shoes, his jacket Just as she was about to undo his tie, her wrist was suddenly gnpped tight.
She looked up to meet Elginâs bleary eyes.
âYou youâre drank, Letitia said, âTake off your clothes and get some good sleep.â
Elgin just stared at her silently
sasy, he seemed too lucid for a drunk.
are you really drunk or what?
âYouâre Letitia.â
âOf course iâm Letilia. She answered, âWere you hoping to see Shela? Then youâve came to the wrong place. You shouldâve gone to Breezy Bay Condos.â
As Letitia tried to pull her hand back to stand up, Elgin yanked her, and she stumbled Into his chest with a yelp.
Elginâs arms locked firmly around her waist.
Letitia, whatâs it gonna take to get you to play nice,â his voice a deep rumble, âstop ticking me off, follow my lead.â
She chuckled bitterly, âEverything I have is in your hands, at your mercy, what more do you want?â
âI want you to come to me willingly, to stay because you want to⦠not because I use hate, or your parents to chain you down.â
Letitia froze. What Elgin said it almost didnât make sense to her.
Then again, he was drunk, he was probably just blabbering nonsense. Why should she take a drunkardâs words to heart?
Letitia felt a bit foolish, laughing at herself.
âWhat are you laughing at?â Elgin was clearly displeased, âIâm talking to you, are you deaf?â
She muttered. âEven when drunk, youâre still grumpyâ
âIâm not drunk!â
âYeah, youâre not drunk. The more sloshed someone is, the more they insist theyâre sober.â
Letitia humored him, like pacifying a child.
âElgin, let go of me, she said, âIâll get a warm towel to clean your face.â
He immediately frowned. âWhere do you think youâre going? No way!â With that, he tightened his arms even more. Letitia felt her waist being squeezed painfully.
âDonât ever dream of leaving me, not ever,â Elgin repeated. âIf you dare, Iâll make you pay a price you canât affordâ¦â
Letitia found it amusing, âMy familyâs all in AquaCity, where could I possibly go?â
Elgin paused for a few seconds, probably finding her point valid.
After a while, he sighed, âLetitia, what do you want.â
âHuh?â
âWhat do you want, what will make you to stay for me? You name it, Iâll give it.â Elgin looked deep into her eyes, âWhatever you want, as long as I have it.â
He was so sincere. It was like a vow, like the most sincere promise between lovers. But to her, even though they were husband and wife on the surface, they were actually enemies.
Letitia lost herself in Elginâs sincere gaze as well.
The two of them silently gazed at each other, as if they were the only two left in the world.
Thatâs when the knock on the door came. Snapped back to reality, Letitia rose to open the door.
âMrs. Ramirez, the hangover cure,â the butler handed over the tray
She took it, walked over to the bedside, and by then, Elgin had already closed his eyes and lay down.
Letitia stood motionless
Elginâs words earlier felt like some kind of dream, all wispy and out of grasp.
But they definitely came straight from his mouth.
Letitia gave a wry smile and shook her head. What was she doing, getting her hopes up like that? Elgin was drunk, but the stuff he was blabbing she actually took it to heart
She gently placed the hangover soup on the nightstand and laid herself back down on the floor.
When Elgin woke up, it was already noon the next day.
His head was throbbing with pain and his memory was blank. He couldnât recall anything from the previous night, his last memory was being at the bar, chatting and downing drinks with Samson.
Elgin shuffled downstairs, took a quick look around, but no sign of Letitia
Ramirez the lady went off to work at the office, the butter chimed in right away. âBut before she left, she made sure to whip up
hangover tea for youâ
He sat down at the dining table with a poker face.
The butler walted on him hand and foot during breakfast, and added, âMrs. Ramirez had a rough night. You were dead drunk and she was left to fend for herself taking care of you. She hardly got any sleep, and looked all worn out this morning.â
