Chapter 52
âMrs. Remirezâ is actually very nice, always treating us with a smile, never barking orders at us. Iâve been by your side and seen so many people, and I can sincerely say that Mrs. Ramirez has a genuinely good heartâ
Elgin shot the butler a glance, âZip it
The butler then silently took out fifty thousand dollars. It was the money that Letitia had painstakingly picked up one by one yesterday.
Elgin slammed the bowl and spoon down hard
The surrounding servants were so scared they didnât even dare to breathe loudly.
âWhatâs she trying to say?â Elgin asked, âHuh?â
The butler was keeping his mouth zipped.
âIâm telling you to talk now!â
âMr. Ramirez, I honestly have no clue, Mrs. Ramirez asked me to give this to you, the butler replied, âThe hospital called, Mrs. Sandersâs condition canât be put on hold, if she needs her meds sheâs got to have them ASAP. The longer the delay, the worse she getsâ
Elginâs face tumed stone cold
âMrs Sanders was in a vegetative state, and now sheâs woken up, thanks to the doctorâs work and her own fierce will to live. Mr. Ramirez, youâve practically cured her, whatâs the big deal with this last step of giving her the meds?â
Elgin spoke solemnly, âYou always seem to be backing Letitia, intentionally or not.â
âL⦠Iâm just telling it like it is.â
The butler was an old hand, used to be with the Ramirez Mansion, sticking with Marcel
After Marcel passed away, he moved to Ivory Towers, managing all sorts of things.
It could be said that he watched Elgin grow up, just like a father would.
âWhatâs Letitia given you.
huh?â
âNothing. Mrs. Ramirez couldnât possibly give me anything.â
Letitia was in too deep herself, barely keeping her own head above water.
Elgin scoffed, his eyes landing on the bowl of hangover soup the butler had conspicuously placed in plain view.
After a long pause, he finally said, âTell the hospital, give this monthâs medsâ¦
âMr. Ramirez!â Shelaâs voice suddenly rang out, interrupting him. She rushed in, all concerned, âDid you sober up? I was so worried about you last night, I barely slept.â
âLast night?â
âYeah, I took care of you in the bar for a long time⦠Mr. Ramirez, donât you remember?â
He grunted, âI donât remember anything.â
Shela pouted, âYou drank so much, I couldnât stop you. You must be feeling rough, got a headache?â As she spoke, she reached out to touch his face, but Elgin dodged her.
âMs. Ward, the person who brought Mr. Ramirez home last night was Mr. Stewart, the butler reminded from the side.
Shela shot him a glare. That butler is annoying, always against her!
âI know, Mr. Stewart said it was too late, told me not to follow,â Shela replied. âMr. Ramirez, what were you saying about meds? For whom?â
âNone of your business.â
*For Letitiaâs mother? You mentioned it to me last night.â
Eiginâs brows furrowed deeply. What exactly had he blabbered and done after getting drunk?
Shela swiftly said, âMr. Ramirez, you shouldnât save Letitiaâs mother. Sheâs ungrateful, saving her is pointless!â
âDo you even know what youâre talking about?â
She didnât even know Malinda, yet dared to judge her. Elginâs disgust grew.
Shela seemed like a totally different girl compared to that night⦠or was it the drug that distorted his memory?
Iâm serious,â Shela answered. âIf you save her, youâre only harming yourself! Mr. Ramirez donât go soft itâs like nourishing a beast that will eventually turn against you!â
Elgin, head aching from her shrill tone, said coldly, âGet out.â
âYou have to trust me, I have proof! Proof that Letitia and her mother are not worth saving!â
âEvidence?â
âYes.â Shela took out her phone. âI have a recording!â
She played the recording, and the voice filled the dining room-
Ive got Walden. Heâs my boyfriend, heâs been great to me. The cost of your hospital stay, heâs been covering it
That was Leitia speaking!
Elginâs previously calm face instantly tumed stormy!
Walden! It was always Walden! In front of Malinda, she dared to openly admit her feelings for Walden!
After a few seconds of pause, Malindaâs voice came on, âLetitia, I want to see your dad. Your father has done so much good in his life.â
âMom, Letitia asked, âdo you really think Marcelâs death was caused by Dad?â
At this point, Elginâs pupils shrank suddenly!
Everyone held their breath, waiting for the conversation to continue.
Everyone at Ivory Towers knew Marcelâs death was a taboo in the Ramirez family, not to be mentioned in private!
âLetitia, your father is innocent, heâs been wronged.
âI feel the same way. Dad is innocentâ
The recording stopped there
Shela said, âThat day, I left the hospital, saw Letitia getting in a car, and curiosity got the better of me so I followed. Turned out she was visiting her mom, I was about to leave from outside the ward when I heard this conversation and recorded it.â
Elgin suddenly stood up, sweeping everything off the table! The crashing sounds of breaking objects echoed in everyoneâs ears
Shela was scared too, but inside she was more thrilled.
This time, Letitia wouldnât get off easy. Thinking of saving her mother? Dream on!
Letitia had thwarted her plans with her father, protecting the unborn child. How could Shela swallow that?
âMr. Ramirez, I just happened toâ¦â
âGet out!â Elginâs eyes were bloodshot as he pointed to the door, âEveryone get out!â
He was like a raging lion, no one dared to approach.
In the dining room, only Elgin remained.
He had been a bit soft-hearted just a moment ago, thinking of letting Malinda get her regular meds.
And now? They really thought Dr. Sanders was innocent? So his father had died for nothing?
Elgin has always looked up to his father like some kind of hero, and would never allow anyone to trash-talk or look down on his father, especially not the Sanders clan!
The Sanders clan was responsible for his fatherâs demise, and now they had a debt to repay. They had to go through the torment and agony they deserved! They had it coming, they deserved it! And as for the meds? Dream on!
Those Sanders people, even now, they wouldnât admit to Dr. Sandersâ sin Theyâve got some nerve!
Outside.
Every now and then, the sound of something getting smashed up in the dining room would drift out, and the butler lets out a sigh
âWhy the long face? Itâs not your stuff getting wrecked, Shela snarked, âListen here, you better get your head straight. Letitia might be Mrs. Ramirez now, but she ainât calling any shots. Youâd do well to figure out whoâs who. Iâm the one whoâs gonna be the real lady of the Ramirez house!*
âYouâre still Ms. Ward for now.â
âHow dare you!
The butter went on, âAs long as Phedras still around, you wonât be the leading lady of the Ramirez family. Sheâs the elder.â
âFine, have it your way, Shela huffed, âbut once I tie the knot and move in here, the first thing Iâll do is firing you!â
