Chapter 61
He meticulously tucked her damp hair behind her ear, his fingers gently caressing her cheek.
âMr. Ramirez
It was as if he didnât hear her, his eyes locked on Letitia.
It wasnât until the ambulance came to the scene that he stood, scooping her up and rushing to the hospital. Elgin seemed to have forgotten that he too was drenched to the bone.
As the doctors wheeled Letitia into the ER, they asked, âDid she fall into water?â
âYes,â Elgin replied.
âDoes she have any acute medical conditions we need to know about? Family needs to inform us
He paused. When it came to Letitiaâs health, he was clueless.
The doctor pressed, âSpit it out, we need to move fastâ
Elgin finally said, âSheâs⦠pregnant.â
The doctor paused, then nodded
Then the door clanged shut.
Standing at the ER door, Elgin was dripping wet, water steadily falling from his sleeves
âMr. Ramirez, Iâve brought you some dry clothes, you should changeâ¦â
âNo need,â he waved off the offer, âIâm waiting for her to come out.â
âBut youâ¦â
Elgin frowned coldly, âZip it.â
Suddenly, the ER doors opened and the doctor stepped out, âWhatâs your relation to Letitia?â
âIâm her husbandâ
âSheâs currently unconscious. Weâve drained the water from her lungs, but⦠the baby is in danger,â the doctor explained, âSo, we need a family member to sign off on the procedures.â
Elgin didnât move an inch
The child wasnât his. Even if it wasnât Waldenâs, there was no reason for him to keep it.
Elgin could take this chance to get rid of the baby. But at that moment, what flashed through Elginâs mind was Letitiaâs look of despair.
Even at the bottom of the lake, her hand was on her lower abdomen. If he got rid of this baby, how heartbroken would she be when she woke up?
Elgin didnât realize it, but he was already caring about Letitiaâs feelings.
âMr. Ramirez, Mr. Ramirez?â the doctor urged, âWeâre in a time crunch here.â
The butler beside him tensed as well. The life or death of this child hinged on a single thought from Mr. Ramirez.
After a long moment, Elgin spoke, âDo everything to save the child.â
âUnderstood,â the doctor confirmed
Elgin bowed his head and quickly signed his name.
âLetitia, youâve won,â Elgin thought, âIn your own way, youâve made me surrenderâ
It wasnât until the dead of night that the lights in the ER went off, and the nurses wheeled out Letitiaâs bed to transfer her to the VIP ward. Half-awake, Letitia kept murmuring, âMy baby, my babyâ¦â She wasnât afraid to die, but her child was innocent, stirring feelings of guilt and regret within her
Her constant murmuring left her restless, her brows deeply furrowed.
âYour baby is fine Elgin stood by the bed, speaking softly
Perhaps hearing his words. Letitia gradually calmed down
Elgin stood silently for a long while, only leaving as dawn approached.
remained in a deep slumber.
Returning to Ivory Towers, he hadnât even reached the door when he heard Shelaâs voice, âWhereâs Mr. Ramirez? Have you all gone mute? Why isnât he home early in the moming! And not answering his phone! Do you know who I am!â
Her arrogant attitude made Elgin frown.
He walked into the living room, and Shela spotted him instantly, joyfully running over, âMr. Ramirez⦠Eh? Why are you all wer
After a night, Elginâs clothes were half-dry.
Shela reached out to touch him, but Elgin brushed her off and strode upstairs.
âMr. Ramirez..â
âTalk business or get out!â
â), I just missed you.â
Elgin disappeared at the staircase.
Shela bit her lip, sensing something was off. How could someone like him not return all night, his clothes wet, his expression so haggard?
After Elgin came down from his bath and changed, Shela was still there.
His irritation grew, âWhy are you still here?â
Shela was scolded, still not catching on. Was Mr. Ramirez⦠disgusted with her?
Elgin was about to say more but suddenly started coughing violently.
âYikes, Mr. Ramirez, youâve caught a cold.â Shela grew anxious, âYou need to take medicine, see a doctorâ¦â
He ignored her, looking to the butler, âGet the car ready, Iâm going to the office.â
âRight away, Mr. Ramirez.â
Wearing soaked clothes all night and not catching a cold would be strange, even for someone as fit as Elgin.
Illness strikes like a landslide.
All moming, the CEOâs office was filled with Elginâs coughing.
Ranen brought in a cup of tea and medicine, but until the tea went cold, Elgin was too busy to take a sip.
âMr. Ramirez,â he reminded, âYou should really take some medicine.â
âYeah, in a bit,â Elgin didnât look up. âAny news from the hospital?â
âNot yet.â Replying, Ranen thought, Mr. Ramirez has asked no less than ten times already. He would inform Mr. Ramirez the moment Mrs. Ramirez wakes up, but Mr. Ramirez kept asking every few minutes.
His mind wasnât on work or his health; it was all on his wife.
Elginâs face darkened
He closed the file in his hand, âCancel the meeting later⦠Iâm stepping out.â
âYes, Mr. Ramirez.â
Letitia slowly opened her eyes in the hospital room.
Gazing at the ceiling, she felt a bit dazed, blinking her eyes as consciousness slowly returned.
âWhere am Iâ¦
She clearly remembered taking the plunge, the water was incredibly deep and freezing cold. She was never a swimmer, had a fear of water since she was a kid and lacked the typical flair for it.
She was prepared to die, but where was she how? Why was she still alive?
The nurse walked in, âYouâre awake? Are you feeling alright?â
Letitia nodded.
The nurse jotted down notes on the chart and adjusted the IV dnp rate.

Letsa gave a half-hearted smile.
âIf I had a husband like that, Iâd be waking up laughing in my dreams. Handsome, loaded, and treats you right-girl, you are so lucky.â
âLucky.â Letitia just sighed and closed her eyes. She was still feeling groggy.
After the nurse left, the room fell silent, with the occasional sound of footsteps passing by clearly audible.
Suddenly, Letitiaâs eyes popped open, and she struggled to sit up in bed, âMy baby⦠my babyâ¦â
