Chapter 68
She had just stepped out of the company when she spotted Walden standing by the roadside.
Letitia was taken aback. What was he doing here?
She glanced back and locked eyes with Elgin, who strode over to her and said, âAre you that scared of me hurting him?â
*L.. just wanted to check if you were following.â
Elgin snorted coidly, reached out, and wrapped his arm around her waist, heading straight for Walden.
Letitia tried to wriggle free, but the tighter he gripped, the harder it became for her to breathe.
Walden stood there, silent as a statue.
His face still bore the marks of a beating, patches of black and blue courtesy of Elginâs fists.
âWhat are you doing here?â Elgin asked indifferently, âCome to throw in the towel?â
Walden first looked at Letitia and then at Elginâs hand on her waist.
After a long pause, he said, âI know youâll definitely take over Sunbeam Gems, making me lose face in front of the board of the Sullivan Group.
âGood that you understand.â
Waldenâs face showed signs of weariness. But he just smiled calmly, not a hint of panic, which really irked Elgin, Walden should be begging him, not the other way around.
âElgin, by getting rid of me, you havenât solved the real problem, Walden said. âYou think youâve won, but youâve actually lost big time.â
Elginâs expression turned icy
âWhat you should be doing is taking good care of Letitia. Not driving away everyone around her until sheâs left with no one but you.â
Waldenâs smile grew wider, and Elginâs aura of menace began to surface.
Still, Walden continued, clearly not afraid to die, âDo you think this will make her depend on you? No, itâll only make her hate you more Youâve closed off her world and forced yourself to be her everything. Thatâs not love; thatâs sickness.â
âSickness?â
âYeah, a mental disorder, Walden replied. âElgin, youâve never really understood love, have you?â
Elgin scoffed coldly. There are plenty of women whoâd kill to be with me!â
âDo they love you? Do they love you, or love your money? And you, do you love them?â
âWalden, shut up! Letitia felt anxious for him. Walden was really pushing his luck, standing up to Elgin like this. He was asking for trouble!
âElgin, I just want to tell you. If you love Letitia, you should cherish her, Walden said, âOtherwise, by the time you look back for her, she wonât be there anymore⦠just like I once lost her
âShe will always be mine.â
âYou can hold onto a person, but not their heart.â
Elgin turned to Letitia, âReally? Where is your heart?â
Letitia looked down at her toes. âMy heart is with me, and no one has taken it.â
âLetitiaâ¦â Walden tried to say more, but Letitia cut him off, âYou better go
She was powerless in the takeover matter, Elgin wouldnât listen to her.
She just hoped it wouldnât be a devastating blow to Walden
Although Sunbeam Gems was gone, the Sullivan Group was still there, and surely Waldenâs parents would have plans for their son.
Letitia thought, Walden should find a girl whoâs a good match, settle down, and start over
He still had endless possibilities. And her⦠Letitia glanced at Elgin by her side. In this lifetime, she had no idea when she would be able to escape this sea of suffering.
âAlright, Walden nodded. Take care, Letitia
She nodded vigorously back at him, âAfter you leave the Sullivan Group⦠where will you go?*
Maybe abroad, to clear my head and get some airâ
Walden slowly turned to leave, but suddenly, he spin back around and pulled Letitia into his arms.
She was stunned, but then she heard Walden whisper in her ear, rapid-fire. âIâm going abroad to uncover the truth for you, wait for me?â
As soon as he finished speaking. Elgin had shoved Walden away.
Letitia stood there, dazed, not quite coming back to reality.
âAre you asking for death?â Elginâs eyes were like icy blades âHow dare you hug my woman right in front of me?â
Walden stumbled back a few steps, shrugged, and said, âJust a farewell hug, why so uplight?â
âNo man is allowed to touch her!â
âIf you were as you said, what does it matter how long she hugs me? Bottom line, Elgin, youâre just insecure.â
âGet lost!â
Seeing this, Letitia stepped forward and held onto Elginâs arm, giving Walden pleading looks
She heard him â Walden had deliberately risked danger to pass her the message.
Going abroad for the truth was he going to look for Phedraâs son?
Letitia had never met or even heard of the second young master of the Ramirez family.
âStill looking? Iâll gouge out your eyes, Elgin wamed. âWanna go with him?â
âI do.â
Elginâs voice rang out loud enough to echo down the entire street, âLetitia Sanders!â
âI just want to leave you, not because I want to go with Walden. Even if itâs a stranger who can take me away, Iâm willing.â
He grabbed her chin, âThe more you want something, the less Iâll let you have it.â
She looked up, her fingertips lightly tracing his cheek, âI want to sleep with you.â
Elgins lips pressed into a thin line.
âWell then, Elgin, you better not let me have my way. Letitia said. âItâs the one thing I want the most.â
The night was quiet and the evening breeze picked up.
In that moment, Letitia was like a siren, her eyes weaving spells that captured the soul.
âDo you want to have my child to save your parents? Elginâs voice was low âYou sure remember the promise my grandfather made you He clenched her hand, yanked open the car door, and threw her onto the seat.
Letitia climbed up without a word and settled in
The car door slammed with a clang, then the car sped off, leaving a trail of exhaust fumes.
Outside the Ramirez Group headquarters, Samson and Vidonia were standing shoulder to shoulder, arms folded, in a strikingly synchronized pose.
âHave those two always been like this?â Samson stroked his chin.
âMust be, since Letitia isnât showing any sign of surprise.â
âThatâs cold, man. Not exactly a knight in shining armor, is he?â
Vidonia rolled her eyes. âThatâs your best friend, a douche.â
âThatâs him, not me, Samson quickly waved his hands in denial, âIâm not part of that
âBirds of a feather flock together, you know what they say, right?â
Vidonia, Iâm sensing some heavy bias against me hereâ¦â
âYouâre exactly that kind of guyâ Vidonia counted off on her fingers, âYouâre always hitting the clubs, got a bunch of chicks in your phone, playing the eternal bachelor card, and alsoâ¦
Samson couldnât stand it anymore and cut her off, âStop, stop, stop! I am single, whatâs this about playing a card? And when I go to the
bar. Ouch!â
Vidonia didnât hesitate to jab him hard in the stomach with her elbow
