Chapter 74
The driver asked, âMr. Ramirez, are you heading back to Ivory Towers?â
Nah, Elgin answered, âTake me to Breazy Bay Condos.â
The driver took a few seconds to respond, âAlrightâ
Mr. Ramirez hardly ever popped over to Breezy Bay Condos, so whatâs got into him today to drop by all of a sudden?
But the driver was in no position to pry.
Sitting in the backseat, Elgin was resting with his eyes closed
Times without Letitiaâ¦. were honestly boring.
It was as if her presence had become a habit for him. And habits are the scariest and toughest things to shake off.
Thatâs why Elgin was off to Breezy Bay Condos. After all, Shela was the woman he was supposed to marry, so what was Letitia to him? Nothing at all!
In front of the condo.
Shela flung open the door. Seeing Elgin standing there, she squealed with delight, âMr. Ramirez! You finally come here!â
âYeah.â
She clung to him affectionately in an instant. âYou havenât dropped by for ages. Itâs always me chasing after you, and then you act all frostyâ¦â
Elgin was expressionless.
Shela went on to pour water and massage his shoulders, âMr. Ramirez, why donât you stay tonight?â
He shot back, âYou want me to stay?â
âOf course, I do!â Shela was filled with excitement, âYou bought me this big house and Iâve been here alone, scared out of my wits.â
After that, she snuggled into Elginâs chest
Playing the sweet damsel does charm the men.
For Elginâs rare visit, Shela was determined to try all the means to make him stay!
She couldnât let Letitia occupy Mr. Ramirez and get cockier by the day!
Tonight she had to seize the opportunity!
âStay with me, Mr. Ramirez, Shela urged with vigor, âYouâre always with Letitia, which makes me so sad. And youâve never spent the night
here before.
âHmm, Elgin finally nodded.
She was over the moon, leaning in to plant a kiss on Elgin.
But he dodged it.
âMr. Ramirez, Shela pouted, âAre you that averse to getting close to me?â
He wouldnât even kiss her, let alone hop into bed.
She had been longing to have a baby with Mr. Ramirez to stabilize her status
After all, she wasnât the woman from that night!
Elgin stood up, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling windows. He gazed out at the river view
âShela,â he said coolly, âWhat do you remember about that night?â
For some reason, Elgin couldnât get Letitia out of his head.
She was just off to a celebration for the Jewelry Department and would return this evening
Besides, he thought Shela was a far cry from the woman that night.
The weight on his chest was making him increasingly irritable.
âAh, ), Iâ¦â Shela tensed up the moment Elgin brought up that night, âI remember a bit⦠a little bitâ¦â
âWhat do you remember?â Elgin asked.
Just, just um, uhâ¦â Shela was stammering. She didnât know anything. Could she make it up now?
What if Eigin caught on that something was off? It would all be over!
But if she didnât answer now, Elgin would get suspicious either way!
Without a doubt, when getting no response, he tumed around, with his gaze piercing as if it could see right through her.
Shela was no match for Elginâs scrutiny.
She couldnât even bear to look him in the eye.
âForgot?â Elgin inquired. âOr donât know how to say it? Or maybe⦠The woman that night wasnât her. His men could have gotten it
Wrong
But Elgin thought that was highly unlikely. Because all the details were consistent!
âMr. Ramirez, actually I⦠Iâ¦â Shela hung her head low on the brink of tears, âIâve always tried not to think about that night.â
âWhy?â
âWhen it first happened, I was petrified. My purity was gone just like that, and I had no idea who the man wasâ¦
Seeing her all teary, Elgin frowned slightly.
Shela continued, âSo I couldnât bring myself to tell anyone, I was trembling with fear every day. It wasnât until you found me that I knew it was you. If it had been anyone else, II would have rather diedâ¦â
âAll I remember is the darkness, the pain.. A girlâs virginity is so precious, and I never imagined losing it like that. I seemed to be overwhelmed by the impurity. Mr. Ramirez, thank goodness it was you. You said you would marry me, and thatâs what kept me going until the day you came for meâ
Youâve got to hand it to Shela, she was pulling out all the acting chops she had on Elginâ¦
However, she couldnât squeeze out a single tear on normal shooting!
Her tearful spiel did soften Elgin a bit, âI was just askingâ
âThat night, if it hadnât been you, my life wouldâve been ruined, Shela dabbed her tears, âMy father was going to give me away to some old geezer. With my purity gone⦠you can imagine how devastating that is for a girl.â
âAlright, I wonât ask anymore.â
Seeing Elgin drop the subject of that night, Shela breathed a silent sigh of relief in her heart.
Surely she hadnât given herself away? She only knew the sequence of events from that night.
The one who truly had been with Elgin was only Letitia. So only Letitia would know what was said in the dark room between them.
Shela was terrified Elgin would ask about the conversation in the room, her heart was in her throat.
âMr. Ramirez, why did you suddenly start asking about this?â she probed, âDid something happen?â
Elgin flatly denied, âNo.â
Shela couldnât figure out what he was thinking and simply nodded, âIâll have the maid start on dinner Spend the evening with me, will you?â
Elgin glanced down at his watch and muttered a âHmm.â
Might as well stay
Letitia was out partying. Was he supposed to return to Ivory Towers and sulk alone, eagerly waiting for her to return?
Shela headed to the kitchen, and Elgin whipped out his phone to shoot a text to Samson.
[Next time, any department shindigs or dinners gotta get the green light from me first.]
Samson replied, [Seriously? You gotta stick your nose in this too?]
[Any problems?]
Samson shot back, [Is this for every department, or just us at the Jewelry Department?]
Elgin replied, (Just you guys.]
Samson was speechless
Gin just didnât want his precious wife to hit the town and have some fun!
Samson could see right through him!
Pfft if heâs got the guts, why not just straight-up ban Letitia from coming? Whatâs with these awkward rules? Noticing something was off with Samson, Letitia asked, âMr. Stewart, whatâs up?â
âWah Samson put away his phone and called out, âEveryone, just enjoy yourselves. No need to hold back.â
