Chapter 8
âYeah, Phedra, we both did it,â Raizel said, âYou canât just stand there and watch the show.â
âCome on, Raizel. Iâm no spring chicken anymoreâ¦â
Letitia immediately cut her off, âLook at that. Phedra doesnât even want to lift a finger!â
While saying this, she secretly tried to wriggle out of the ropes.
Raizel thought Letitia had a point and handed a knife to Phedra. âAlright. You slash the left side, and Iâll handle the right.â
âDeal.â Phedra agreed, âYou start cutting, Iâll hold her down so she doesnât squirm!â
âGot it.â
The two were in perfect cahoots.
Letitiaâs wrists were turning red, and the ropes showed no sign of loosening.
Phedra came over to pin her head down. âDonât play tricks, and itâll hurt less. This knife isnât picky! Come on, Raizel, do
it!â
âYouâve got so smooth skin. No wonder you could charm Elgin. Iâll slash it up good today!â
Raizel approached with a wicked grin.
The knife drew closer and closer until it pressed against Letitiaâs cheek, its icy chill sending shivers.
âJust a little pressure, and there goes your beautyâ¦â
Letitia swallowed hard with anxiety. âYou⦠youâre not afraid of Elgin?â
âWith the Morris family backing me, he wonât hurt me.â
As Raizel was about to cut Letitiaâs face, a deep and authoritative voice echoed from afar at that critical moment, âStop right there!â
That voice sounded familiar!
Letitiaâs spirits lifted, and she shouted with all her might, âElgin, save me!â
The screech of tires on pavement sounded, and before the car had stopped, Elgin was already out and on the move
He came striding over, his suit tails flapping, his face filled with fury.
âThe Morris family? What are they?â Elginâs thin lips curled. âTomorrow, I can make the whole Morris family vanish from AquaCity!â
âDear Elgin⦠Ah!â
Elgin kicked Raizel aside without a glance. He went straight to Letitia and scooped her up. âAre you hurt?â
She shook her head. âNo, that was close, though.â
âWhy did you run off?â Elgin asked, âCanât you just stay at the Ramirez Group?â
ââ¦â She couldnât say she was looking for a job when she ran into Phedra and Raizel.
Letitia chose to remain silent.
âElgin, why, why are you here?â Phedra tried to smile. âI was just having a bit of fun with my daughter-in-law.â
Eiginâs eyebrow lifted. âHaving a bit of fun?â
âYeah
He picked up the knife from the ground and threw it at Phedraâs feet. âNow, carve up your face for fun.
âWhatâ
Chapter 8
âDear Elgin!â Raizel stamped her foot. âWhy do you always take her side?â
âBecause sheâs my wife!â Elginâs gaze was colder than any blade. âShould I defend you instead?â
Raizel looked at Letitia with envy all over her face. But Letitia had a bitter truth she couldnât voice. Elgin was so livid because he was the only person who could bully and humiliate her.
Even if he hated and tormented her, he would never let anyone else lay a finger on her. It had to be him personally.
Elginâs sweet nothings were just that. It was all empty words she neither took to heart nor dared to believe.
When she was lost in thought, Elgin had swept her off her feet, and Letitia gasped, instinctively wrapping her arms.
around his neck
Realizing the intimacy of the gesture, she quickly let go.
âYou should be thankful that sheâs not hurt, Elgin said expressionlessly and indifferently, âRaizel, Iâll discipline you on behalf of the Morris family! Go home to repent your sins. Youâll be grounded for a month! No stepping outside!â
âPhedralâ He barked her name, âYou can forget about your allowance for the year!â
To Phedra, this was a punishment worse than hell.
Having married Marcel and lived a life of luxury, she still received a hefty monthly allowance from the family fund even after his death.
Elgin cutting her off from one yearâs money was cruel. She was used to living large, and how was she supposed to survive without the money?
âNo way! Thatâs my money from your dad.â
âTwo years!
âElgin, you⦠youâ¦â
Three years! Youâre cut off for three years!â
When Elgin said something, he meant it.
Phedra and Raizel were really in for it at this time.
At Ivory Towers, the butler saw Letitiaâs disheveled appearance, âMrs. Ramirez, are youâ¦â
âIâm alright, really. It looks worse than it actually is, but I promise Iâm not hurt.â
Elgin sat on the sofa, loosening his tie. âNot hurt? Whatâs that on your palm then?â
Letitia was stunned. It turned out that he had noticed all along.
H
âWhat else are you good for besides causing me trouble? Elginâs gaze bore down on her âI had to punish Phedra and Raizel because of you. Feeling proud, arenât you?â
She quickly waved her hands. âI didnât think that.
He scoffed, âLetitia, no one gets to touch your face. If itâs to get cut, itâll be by me!â
Elginâs eyes drifted to the fruit knife on the coffee table.
Letitia shrank back a little.
âWhat are you spacing out for? Canât you take a hint?â
She had no choice but to hand him the knife with both hands, her voice low, âI didnât do anything wrong today.â
Running off was your mistake.
Letitbit her lip, eyes cast down. In her world, his word was law
Letda had the cold blade pressed against her cheek once again
âLett, see, once you leave my side there are so many people out to get you, Elgin tapped fier face gently with the ti of the knife. But with me, Iâm the only one who gets to torment you.â
Chapter
She kept her eyes tightly closed, not knowing when Elgin might strike.
Perhaps because sheâd held back for too long or she would get disfigurement either way, Letitia talked back, âIf anyone else bullies me, I can resist and fight back. But I canât fight back against you!â
âBecause you owe me!â
âNo, I donât owe you, nor does the Sanders family! Letitia screamed silently in her heart.
The knife pressed down bit by bit. With a little more force, it would cut through the skin.
âDing The landline next to me started blowing up all of a sudden.
Elgin picked up the receiver âGrandpa.â
âGet your butt over to the Ramirez Mansion as fast as you can!â Hawley Ramirez bellowed over the line, âI mean right. now, this instant!â
âWhatâs up?â
âAnd bring your blushing bride with you!â Hawley hung up.
Elgin shot Letitia a knowing look.
She was all deer-in-the-headlights but trying her best to play it cool. It was pretty amusing.
âConsider yourself lucky Elgin teased her chin up with the tip of his knife. âYour pretty face? Letâs keep it intact for now. I donât want to scare Grandpa with the blood.
Grandpa?
âClean yourself up and go to the Ramirez Mansion with me.â Elgin sat back, legs crossed. âYouâve got five minutes.â
Letitia scrambled to her feet, dressed up, and did her hair as fast as lightning.
They arrived at the Ramirez Mansion.
Compared to the luxury and grandness of Ivory Towers, the Ramirez Mansion was all about the stately courtyard style with rolling hills, water features, and an old-world charm.
No sooner had they stepped into the living room than Phedra pointed at Letitia and screeched, âThatâs right, Hawley. Sheâs here! Sheâs Dr. Sandersâ daughter! Can you believe it? Elgin has tied the knot with her!â
