Chapter 80
Mark arranged for Shela to be in the hospital and then went off to tap his connections to cook up a fake pregnancy test report.
Meanwhile, Vidonia sneaked into the hospitalâs paternity test lab.
Seizing the moment during a shift change, Vidonia hunched, sifted through the test tubes, and found the one labeled with
Letitiaâs name.
She pocketed it in a blink, replacing it with a new test tube.
Mission accomplished!
âEasy-peasy. Canât believe Letitia would have been so worried, Vidonia muttered under her breath, âSheâs too single-minded and honest. To deal with these weasels, you gotta play dirty!â
She headed out, glanced to ensure the coast was clear, and ran out quickly, slipping into the corridor. Everything went off without
a hitch!
âHow did it go? Did you get it?â Letitia asked eagerly from inside the car parked by the curb
Vidonia pulled out the test tube and gave it a shake âOf course!â
âYouâre amazing!â
âItâs no biggie. Without this thing, letâs see how Phedra can carry out the test.â Vidonia snapped the tube in half with her bare hands and tossed it into a trash can with flair. âLetâs roll! Itâs time for some late-night grub. I donât wanna starve my godson!â
Letitia hugged her with joy
Once their car was out of sight, Phedra emerged from the cover of a streetlight.
âHuh, I knew youâd pull a stunt like thisâ She was smug. Too bad, Letitia. I was way ahead of you! The more you dread the test, the more it proves this child is of unknown origin! Itâs not Elginâs!â
Phedra opened her palm to reveal the real test tube needed for the test. She still had it!
âHumph, I canât wait for the results to come out. Itâs going to be quite the show!â
On the open-air balcony of Ivory Towers, the lights shone brightly.
Elgin was still engrossed in business talk with Samson, who had stopped counting how many yawns heâd managed to hold back
But as good buddies for years, Samson knew Elgin too well.
It wasnât that the workaholic Elgin didnât want to rest but was just too stubborn to make the first move to admit he had missed his wife!
So, Samson didnât dare provoke him at this time.
A man frustrated in love can have a fearsome temper!
âAlright, alright! Weâll do it that way, Samson agreed repeatedly, âYep, weâll do it all according to your plan. Done deal!â
Elgin frowned. âYou have no objections?â
âNone at all. Mr. Ramirez, youâre brilliant, wise, and full of strategiesâ
Bang! Elgin slammed the documents onto the table
âWhat time is it?â he asked.
âPast ten.â
Elgin glanced at the door. It was dark, with no one in sight.
âJust call your wife if you miss her. Youâre legally married,â Samson teased. âNo need to hide it.â
For once, Elgin didnât argue back but silently rubbed his forehead.
After a while, he spoke softly, âTell me. Why Letitia?â
âBecause sheâs your wifeâ
Hearing this answer, Elginâs gaze turned icy.
was your choice to marry her, Samson shrugged: âI warned you not to mess with feelings. Itâs something you canât control But
you didnât listen! Now you realize youâve fallen for Letitia?â
Samson had said this kind of thing before, but Elgin still stubbornly denied it.
âImpossible,â he clenched his lips tightly. âIf weâre talking about love here, itâs only her loving me.â
1 guess she doesnât love you, either, Samson continued to provoke. âLetitia hasnât been getting drunk over you late at night, has she?
Struck where it hurt, Elgin had the urge to flip the table!
Samson, enjoying the drama, pulled out his phone. âWanna test whether she loves you or not?â
Elgin didnât respond.
âAlright then,â Samson pretended to put his phone away. âForget I said anything.â
Elgin kicked him under the table. âHow do you test it?â
âCall her, and youâll find out Samson raised his eyebrows Shh, listen.â
Swiftly, Samson dialed Letitiaâs number.
She picked up quickly, her voice soft and tender âHello, Mr. Stewart.â
Elginâs expression instantly soured. Was she always this gentle and soft-spoken with others?
âYeah, itâs me Where are you now? replied Samson.
âIâm having a late-night snack with Vidonia. Iâll head home soon.â
Trying to hide his amusement, Samson said in earnest. âOkay. Hereâs the thing. Your husband got drunk at my place. Can you come pick him up?
âDrunk again?â Letitia thought for a moment. âMr. Stewart, I think you can let him sleep over at your place.â
What had gotten into Elgin these days? He had constantly got hammered.
Was he that troubled? He was always the one troubling others.
Samson nearly choked. âAh, two grown men sleeping in the same room? Isnât that a bit off?â
âYou have more than one bedroom.â
Samson coughed awkwardly before saying, âWell, Gin got hurt throwing a drunk tantrum. We need to take him to the hospital now. Itâs serious! He nearly disfigured!â
âMr. Stewart, you donât sound too concerned. Instead of calling an ambulance, you called me first. It seems like itâs not that bad.â
âUhâ¦â
âAnd he has Ranen, bodyguards, and a housekeeper, all on call 24/7
Before Samson could say more, Elgin snatched the phone and hung up!
âWomen can be damn ruthless when they want to be, Samson patted his shoulder. âKeep cool. Anyway, you donât love her.â
âWho says Iâ¦
âHmm? You what?â
Elgin snapped back to reality, the half-spoken words he almost uttered, what were they?
Did he.. love her? Impossible!
âYou should leave, Elgin stood up. âItâs getting late.â
Samson sighed deeply. âWhat a jerkâ¦â
He bolted before Elgin could throw his documents at him.
After hanging up, Letitia wondered if she should inquire about Elginâs injury. But she was afraid of meddling Elgin didnât need her by the side.
When Letitia returned home, it was past midnight.
She carefully pushed open the bedroom door, tiptoeing in, afraid to wake Elgin.
She didnât dare turn on the light, fumbling her way in the dark

She had barely taken a couple of steps when she burriped into a chest, which scared the hell out of her, and she let out a shriek,
âAh!
Look whoâs back?â came Elginâs low voice.
Right after Letitiaâs words ended, there was a loud âsnap as Elgin switched on the light.
The sudden brightness was so blinding that Letitia had to shield her eyes with her hand.
After having barbecued mutton with Vidonia, she was reeking of the stuff. Elgin scoffed. âDid you have fun?â
âI just had dinner with Vidonia. Thatâs all.â
âCut the crap fooling around with her.â
Letitia pouted, retorting, âSheâs my friend. What do you mean fooling aroundâ..â
