Chapter 83
That same night he spent with Shela, he had just been diagnosed with a low sperm count
Logically speaking, the odds of her getting knocked up were pretty slim
But slim doesnât mean impossible. Thatâs what he had thrown back at Phedra when she spoke up. And he didnât expect that it actually happened
âWell, if thatâs the case, then letâs take good care of it, Elgin said. âItâs my kid, and Iâll step up.â
âYou sticking around?â
*Of course, Iâm sticking around.â
Shela beamed, got up, and threw her arms around his neck. Thatâs awesome, Mr. Ramirez, I was worried⦠that you wouldnât want the babyâ
Elgin paused, then patted her shoulder gently, âHow could I not?â
Thad no clue I was pregnant. I was scared youâd think I kept it under wraps on purpose, just to force you to marry me.â As she said this, Shela glanced at Letitia, then looked away, shrinking back a bit.
Biting her lip, she said. âBut youâre married to Letitia now, and this kidâs got no name, no status. What should we do⦠itâs all because Iâm just a lowly nobodyâ
Elgin didnât hesitate, âHer? Sheâs nothingâ
Letitia kept her head down, quiet, acting like she wasnât even there. She was the odd one out.
Elgin had called her over just to humiliate her and show off how well he treated Shela.
Shela coord, âMr. Ramirez, our child is definitely going to be a cut above the rest, right? Even though Iâm not exactly your wife right now, things will get better!â
âYeah You just focus on taking care of yourself, and leave the rest to me.
Shela nestled into his embrace, Mr Ramirez, youâre the bestâ
âIâll take care of everything,â Elgin said âNo oneâs gonna stand in the way of you and the kidâ
That was his promise to Shela. Both Mark and Letitia heard it loud and clear
Letitia thought to herself that Shela sure had it good, envy-worthy
Mark was all smiles, his eyes crinkling into slits. Sure enough having a kid does the trick. A child brings honor to the mother, an age old truth that never changes.
Elgin fetched a doctor, laid down some instructions, and emphasized the need for top-notch care, âNot a single mistakeâ
âDonât worry, Mr. Ramirez, Ms. Ward is in the care of our most renowned OB-GYNs.
Elgin just grunted
No matter what, Shela was pregnant, and the kid was his. He had to take on the role of a father.
Even though he didnât have much feeling for Shela in his heart, but that one night had sealed their fate. It must be destiny.
âMr. Ramirez, Iâd like to have a word with Letitia,â Shela said, swinging his arm, âabout the pregnancy. I couldnât control it, and I hope she doesnât mind
âShe has no right to mindâ
âBut sheâs still Mrs Ramirez
Elgin said coolly, âThat spot will be yours sooner or later, Iâve told you before.â
Shela was over the moon, though she kept up her innocent facade
âSorry, Letitia, Mr. Ramirez and I just got carried away, and thatâs how the pregnancy happened. Over the next few months, I just want to focus on nurturing the baby, having a smooth delivery. Please donât make trouble for me, okay?â
It sounded like. Letitia was some kind of villain.
âMe, make trouble for you? Letitia laughed, âIâd rather you sit tight and stop flaunting yourself in front of me!â
Sheta bit her lip. I know my pregnancy upsets youâ¦
chapter
*Upset? Oh, Iâm thrilled!â Letitia said, âHereâs hoping you have a healthy baby and marry into the Ramirez family soon!â
Shela responded, âThank you for your well wishes.â
Letitia was speechless. How can someone be so shameless!
âBy the way, when will the wedding ring be ready?â Shela asked, âI want to wear it. Looking at it while Iâm pregnant will lift my spirits, and the baby will be healthier.â
âI donât know.â She was a designer, not some personal service clerk for Shelal
Elgin spoke up, âIsnât this your job? Arenât you following up?â
Okay.â Letitia agreed, âIâll have an answer for Ms. Ward by this afternoon. Anything else? If not, Iâm heading to the office.â
Elgin said, âWhatâs the rush? Iâll go with you.â
âOh? Mr. Ramirez, arenât you staying with Ms. Ward?â she said with her biggest grin, âI almost forgot, Mr. Ramirez, I havenât congratulated you yet. Youâre going to be a dad!â
He shot her a cold look, âQuit your sarcasm.â
Shela chimed in. âLetitia, I donât care however you badmouth me, just donât hurt my babyâ
âSheâs not capable of that.â Elgin stood up. âJust take care of yourself. Iâll come see you when I have time.â
Shela clung to his hand, reluctant to let go, âMr. Ramirez⦠youâll come often, right?â
âYeah.â
Letitia just felt sick to her stomach and turned her head away.
Sitting in the car, Elginâs expression was blank, showing no joy.
He glanced at Letitiaâs belly, a smirk crossing his lips, âYou thought you were safe, because grandpa got tricked by you, right? Now that Shela is really carrying my child, what do you think⦠what do you have left to hold on to?â
Her heart skipped a beat.
âLetitia, whatever youâre doing is pointless. You wonât be able to give birth to it,â Elgin said, âYou couldâve taken the easy way out, but you chose the hard road.â
âAs long as Iâm breathing, Iâll protect him.â Letitia said firmly.
âWhatâs so precious about a bastard that youâd go this far?â
Letitia replied firmly, âBecause heâs my child.â
Elginâs eyes darkened, âDaring to say such things in front of me, youâre really asking for it!â
But she just smiled. Since sheâd already offended Elgin, whatâs the harm in going a little further?
So, Letitia said, âAt least I can be hundred percent sure that the kid in my belly is mine. But can you men ever be sure the baby is yours? Is Shelaâs baby really yours? She even snickered with a sneer.
Elgin grabbed her by the throat, snapping, âSay that one more time!â
âWhat, you didnât catch that? Menâ¦â
He tightened his grip, and Letitia suddenly couldnât make a peep.
Elgin leaned in, right up close to her, After last night, Letitia, youâre less than dirt to me. You better be careful not to piss me off, or whatâs coming for you⦠is gonna be a world of hurt.â
He let go and said loudly, âPull over!â
The driver hits the brakes pronto.
âGet out.â Eigin didnât even glance her way, âIâve been too nice to you lately, spoiled you rotten!â
