Chapter 96
Î
Today, heâs been daydreaming about if he had a daughter, how he would ace the role of a doling dad. Raising a girl is a whole different thing from raising a boy.
âMr. Ramirez, you gotta save the baby.â Shela pleads, still bleeding like a stuck pig. âNo matter what, the baby comes first!â
âStop talking, save your strength. Iâm taking you to the hospitall
Elgin, a new dad, fell of hopes for his kid, felt like his heart was being ripped out seeing this
He hoisted Shela in a firemanâs carry, giving Letitia a glare that could kill
Letitia, sprawled on the ground, aching all over and too weak to even crawl, watched helplessly.
âLetitia, if anything happens to Shelaâs baby your whole family is gonna pay with their lives!â
Elgin dropped this bombshell and left with Shela, moving like his life depends on it
Letitia struggled to lift her head, only to see Elginâs towering figure getting smaller in the distanceâ¦
Shela slung to his shirt, as he whispered something looking anxious and tense.
Yeah, it was dicey for Shela, pregnant and tumbling down the stairs
But what about her? She was pregnant too, for crying out loud! Yet no one gave a hoot about whether she was okay, nobody gave a damn!
And if anything happens to Shelaâs baby, itâs all on her, her fault!
But damn it, it was Shela who came at her, who grabbed her hand, who wanted them both to take the fall. The ground was soaked in blood, looking extra gruesome under the harsh moonlight.
Letitia thought it was all Shelaâs. But when she looked down, she saw blood seeping outâ¦
She panicked! Her baby!
Fear engulfed her, and as she tried to scream, she found her voice was gone.
The more worked up she got, the tighter her throat felt
Letitia could feel it⦠her lifeblood draining away. It was her child, a life slipping away
âNo-â Her scream was heart-wrenching as she pressed down on her belly.
âMrs Ramirez! The butler rushed in. âWhatâs happened to you?â
âThe baby, the baby. Letitiaâs voice trembled, âPlease, you gotta save my babyâ¦â
The butlerâs face went white, âOkay!â
The other servants just stood there at first, watching.
But as the butler started to help Letitia up, one maid stepped forward, âLet me help.â
With her taking the lead, the others slowly joined in.
After all, Mrs. Ramirez may not be the boss, but she had always been decent to them.
Letitia was in so much pain, she was nearly out cold. Gazing into the pitch-black night, she felt an eerie calm⦠If she lost this baby, howâs she supposed to live?
That night, Ivory Towers was all lit up, a hive of frantic activity.
At the hospital.
Outside the OR
Elgin stood tall and still, bloodstains from Shela on his clothes, face like ice.
âMy Shela⦠my poor girl! Mark sobbed, rushing over, âWhat in the world happened? Sheâd only been at Ivory Towers a few days!â
Elgin stayed silent.
Mark was wailing, âIf anything happens to my grandchild, Iâm done for⦠Shela wonât survive this blow, Mr. Ramirez, what are we gonna do? What the hell happened?â
Then, downed on his knees at the OR doors, âIâm begging you, God, have mercy, let Shela and the baby be safe, even if I have to knock ten years off my lifeâ¦
Ugin gave him a sidelong glance, âShela she rolled down the stairs?
or something? Mark asked âNo, no way, sheâs been super careful since finding out sheâs pregnant, avoiding cold fond, no

exercise, scared of any risks!â
Elgin went silent again: Heâd seen Letitia and Shela face-to-face from afar after his dinner party.
They were arguing, Shela trying to grab Letitiaâs hand, Letitia resisting.
By the time Elgin parked and looked back, Letitia was on the edge of the stairs, falling backwards, grabbing Shelaâs hand at the last secondâ¦
Both of them were pregnant, tumbling down together.
Oh, right, Elgin remembered, Letitia was pregnant too.
âMr. Ramirez, spill it, how did Shela fall?â Mark pressed, âDid someone hurt her?â
Elgin barely parted his lips, âIt was Letitia.â
She dragged Shela down with her as she fell, taking someone to the grave with her
All the blame, squarely on Letitiaâs shoulders.
Markâs eyes bulged, âHer? I knew it, I always knew it! Letitiaâs been green with envy over Shela, but but how could she go after a child? Thatâs stone-cold!â
Just then, the OR doors swung open
The doctor stepped out, exchanged a quick look with Mark, then looked away.
Elgin stepped up, voice heavy, âHow is she?â
âNot good,â the doctor said. The baby⦠we probably canât save it.â
Mark staggered back, looking like heâs about to pass out.
âWhat?â Elginâs face darkened âSay that again?â
âUh, Mr. Ramirez, this the motherâs bleeding out, the babyâs critical, we can only save the mother,â the doctor explained âI did everything I could.â
Elgin grabbed the doctor by the collar, âYou better keep trying, I want them both, the baby and the mother!â
He had just started to taste the joy of fatherhood, and now he was supposed to lose his child?
No way, he couldnât handle this!
âYes, yes,â the doctor stammered, scared stiff, âweâll do our best, but Mr. Ramirez, please⦠prepare yourself.â
Elginâs forehead throbbed with tension. Despite not wanting to face the harsh truth, he knew the babyâs gone.
âItâs all over, game over, Mark muttered to himself, âThe kidâs gone, Shelaâs gonna be heartbroken⦠No, no way, Iâve gotta avenge the little one! Mr. Ramirez, where the heck is Letitia?! Where is she?!â
Mark was losing it, hollering like a madman to find Letitia
Elgin pursed his lips tightly. Yeah, where the hell was Letitia? She was the main culprit, the one to blame!
He was about to say something when he saw at the end of the corridor, doctors and nurses rushing a gurney past him, dashing into the operating room next door. Mixed in with the flurry were the figures of the butler and a few servants
