Chapter 98
Elgin gave the order himself â no oneâs allowed to save her kid. Whoâd dare cross him?
âDoctor, doctor,â she sobbed quietly, âwhat should I do, I really canât lose my babyâ¦â
She thought, what if one day in the future, the kidâs dad shows up, howâs she gonna explain this mess? Is she really such a loser?
âSorry, Iâ¦I canât go against Mr. Ramirezâs wishes either,â the doctor answered, âotherwise, he would kill me. And heâs your husbandâ¦
Husband⦠pfft. Who wouldâve thunk it, the title of husband gives Elgin the power to play God with her childâs life.
âIâm getting the surgery, Iâm saving my baby, my husbandâs words donât mean anything!â Letitia clenched her teeth, âIâve got a say in this
toor
âAbout the surgery costsâ¦â
He didnât even have to finish that sentence to throw a bucket of cold water on Letitia.
Chilled to the bone. Money, sheâs got no money right now.
But why does money have to be so darn important at a time like this? Does she really have to stand by, watch her childâs life signs fade away bit by bit, leaving her body?
No, no, thereâs got to be another way, thereâs always a way.
Letitia turned her head, looking toward the OR door
Elgin had long gone, he wouldnât come back, because he couldnât care less to give her a glance.
He must be with Shela, guarding her, patiently soothing her.
The difference between people, man, itâs so glaringly obvious at a moment like this.
Letitia took a deep breath, staring at the bright OR lights above, her vision blurringâ¦
But just then, a name popped into her mind. Neil!
Neil had given her his card once, told her straight up, if she ever needed anything, she could call him anytime! And he didnât just say it
once!
Hope flared in Letitia once more. Right here, right now, Neil could be her lifesaver!
Letitia, like grasping at straws, suddenly found the strength, even managing to get up on the operating table.
âMy phoneâ¦â she begged the nurse, âPlease, can you get my phone for me?â
This small request, the nurse could fulfill. Even though they had no clue what she was up to.
After some searching, they found Letitiaâs phone in a bag in the corner.
She grabbed it with delight, tears streaming down, hands trembling, trying hard to focus on the screen. Finally, âNeilâ appeared, and Letitia didnât hesitate to press the button.
The ringing sounded, each second torturously long.
Letitiaâs heart was in her throat, praying Neil wasnât too busy to pick up.
Thankfully, after what felt like ages, a warm male voice came through, âHello, whoâs this?â
Letitiaâs tears flowed even harder.
She tried to control the lump in her throat, to speak clearly- Mr. Thompson, itâs me, Letitia Sanders.â
âMs. Sanders?â Neil sounded surprised, âHello, whatâs going on?â
âSave me, please, I need your help right now,â Letitia said.
There was silence for two seconds, then the sound of hurried footsteps, âOkay, where are you?â
Letitia held on to the last of her consciousness and clarity, explaining the situation and location.
Neil listened intently, occasionally acknowledging with a âHmmâ
Almost the moment the call ended, Letitia passed out completely.
The phone slipped from her hand, clattering to the floor
Nel rushed to the hospital as fast as he could and quickly took Letitia away
Meanwhile, Shefas surgery had just finished.
doctor regretfully said. âSorry, we tried our best, but we couldnât save the baby. The motherâs body has also suffered a lot of damage
sheâll need to stay in the hospital for recovery.â
âMy poor Shela!â Mark wailed, âThis is killing her!â
Elgin spoke indifferently, âUnderstood.â
The nurse pushed the gurney out, moving Shela to a VIP room.
She lay there sleeping, her complexion pale.
Although⦠Elgin felt no real affection for her, seeing her like that did stir some guilt within him.
He hadnât protected her well enough.
âMi Ramirez, we canât let Letitia get away with this!â Mark said, âIf she could harm Shelaâs child this time, next time she might kill Shela!â
âIâll handle her.â
âIt should be Shela who deals with her, Mr. Ramirez, itâs a womanâsâ¦â
Elgin raised his hand, cutting off Mark, âYou stay here and take good care of herâ
âMr. Ramirez, arenât you going to wait for Shela to wake up?â
âNo.â
âBut⦠how sad sheâll be if she wakes up and youâre not here.â
Elginâs lips curled slightly, but he turned and left nonetheless. He could imagine what it would be like when Shela woke up, making a scene, fussing and threatening. It would be messy.
His heart ached too. That was his child, his blood. Elgin was never one to wear his emotions on his sleeve, so heâd have to digest this grief alone, quietly, in his heart.
Dawn was breaking, and a new day was starting.
After Elgin had left. Mark lingered for a minute, then peeked out the door watching.
Once he was sure Elgin was really gone, he breathed a sigh of relief.
What a night of close calls. But this was just the beginning! The road ahead was long and tough!
âI need to reach out to some old gyno buddies, see if thereâs a way to make Shela more fertile, Mark muttered to himself, âThat way, itâd be a lot easier for her to get pregnant!â
At the hospital entrance. Elgin stepped out, looking at the slowly rising sun on the horizon.
It was blinding, and he couldnât help but shield his eyes
âMr. Ramirez Ranen approached, âYou havenât rested all night, do you want to skip the office this morning?â
âIâm going
Ranen could only nod.
Before getting into the car, Elgin thought of something else.
He looked at Ranen, âCheck on Letitia for me, and report back
âWill do, Mr. Ramirezâ
The car drove away from the hospital.
Elgin dropped the partition inside the car and slipped into the fresh suit Ranen had on deck.
Letitia⦠how dare she?!
Her father killed his, and now sheâs gone and killed his kid
That grudge is gonna stick around forever, ainât no way to wipe the slate clean!
As he was nearing the Ramirez Group, his phone buzzed. Elgin picked up, âHello?â
âMr. Ramirez, your wife is not at the hospital!â
His eyes darkened, âWhat did you just say?â
âThe doctor said, last night, someone rushed in and took your wife away!â
