Chapter 131: Valhalla
Well thenâ¦what to doâ¦
Benjamin sighed.
He had expected the two to meet at some point but didnât think it would happen here and now.
In fact, part of the reason Benjamin accepted to bring Hela along was so the two wouldnât meet when he was away.
But to think Valkyrie would appear hereâ¦well, sheâs probably here to meet Thor or something and just happened to see Hela walking outsideâ¦
What happened was indeed how Benjamin imagined.
Valkyrie was swinging by and wanted to grab some Asgardian wine which may or may not be known to Thor. However, she saw Hela leaving the throne room and the rest was history.
Actually, she wasnât such a hotheaded person.
She didnât attack Hela from the getgo and first doubted her own eyes.
After all, this was Asgard. Even more so, the royal palace of Asgard!
Why would Hela, who was supposedly trapped in Hel, be walking around so casually here!?
Does that make any sense? Of course not.
However, the truth was right before her eyes.
Only after checking that she was the real deal, did Valkrie launch an attack.
And the moment they clashed, Valkyrie was no longer in doubt.
It was indeed her!
Hela, the Goddess of Death!
The one that killed every single one of her sisters!
Hela blocked her attack without any problems and glanced at her casually.
âHuh, itâs you.â
Valkyrie grimaced with gritted teeth.
âYou know who I am!?â
Hela shrugged.
âYouâre the Valkyrie who hid herself underneath the corpses of her sisters.â
Valkyrieâs eyes widened in shock.
âYouâ¦you knewâ¦!?â
Hela scoffed.
âPlease, who do you think I am? Do you really think anyone can play dead in front of me?â
â...Then whyâ¦â
âWhy did I spare you?â
Hela rolled her eyes.
âYouâre just a soldier. I have nothing against you. If you were going to stay down then why should I bother?â
Hela shook her head while casually blocking Valkyrieâs swings.
Valkyrie gritted her teeth and swung harder.
âSo you know who I am! It doesnât matter! I will kill you for what you did to my sisters!â
While Valkyrie started to intensify her attacks, at the side, Selene looked toward Benjamin and asked.
âUhh, arenât you going to stop them?â
âHm? Oh, well, I was indeed worried at first butâ¦â
Benjamin glanced at Hela who was only blocking and dodging Valkyrieâs attacks.
âI guess I donât really need to worry much after all.â
Benjamin wasnât worried Hela would get hurt. After all, sheâs now Deathâs apostle. It isnât easy to hurt someone of her caliber.
He was more worried that Hela wouldnât be able to hold back and kill Valkyrie.
Now that he saw Hela was managing to hold back properly, there was no need to worry so much anymore.
In this case, just let Valkyrie vent a little.
After a few minutes of fighting and blocking, Hela was starting to get annoyed and simply grabbed Valkyrieâs sword by the blade with her bare hand and tossed it away.
âAre you done yet!? I donât have all day!â
âWHY ARENâT YOU FIGHTING BACK!?â
Valkyrie shouted in frustration as she punched Hela instead now that her weapon was gone.
Hela sighed and caught her punch.
âI donât have time for this.â
Hela tapped the ground with her feet and instantly, dozens of black swords appeared, piercing upwards as it encaged Valkyrie.
âI mean seriously. Did you really think you could kill me? The once Goddess of Death?â
Valkyrie who seemed to have gotten a wake up call was speechless for a moment.
âWellâ¦if you put it like thatâ¦â
âI donât get why youâre even angry at me. Theyâre not dead. Not really.â
âWhat are you sayingâ¦you literally killed them! Their ice-cold bodies covered me for days!â
Hela sighed.
âThey died in war, girl. That means theyâre in Valhalla.â
Valkyrie still looked confused.
âYeah. Meaning, theyâre dead!â
Hela shook her head.
âValhalla isnât death. At least, not truly.â
At this moment, Freyja, who was watching from the sidelines, approached them.
âAre you sayingâ¦Valhalla is an actual place? A place we can go to?â
Benjamin was also curious.
From what he knew, Valhalla is basically like Heaven for Asgard. Just a place everyone tells you will go to when you die but isnât an actual thing.
Sure there is Heven but human souls doesnât go there when they die.
Well, thereâs Hell but the souls that enter there usually goes there because of a contract with a demon or other causes.
There isnât some kind of cosmic entity that judges good or evil then delegates where you go to when you die.
Wait no, there was that Egyptian God or something.
Speaking of, I donât think Moon Knight has appeared yet.
Hela explained.
âItâs something I only learned thanks to my Master.â
âYour Master?â
Valkyrie asked.
âI mean Death. Iâm now an Apostle of Death. Keep up.â
â...â
âAnyway, she said that around a few million years ago, before she was trapped in the Soul Stone, she met one of our ancestors. Apparently, he was once also known as the God of Death. But unlike me, he didnât bring about Death to all beings. Instead, he found a way to create a way for souls to, instead of going to Death, divert it to another place. Valhalla.â
Hela continued.
âOf course what he did was still quite rudimentary compared to the true powers of my Master. But my Master was impressed and helped him out. And so from then on, warriors who die in battle will have their souls go to Valhalla.â
âWait, Iâm confused.â
Thor interjected.
âSoâ¦is my father alive or dead?â
âHeâs alive. Unfortunately.â
Hela rolled her eyes.
âMake no mistake. No one can cheat Death. Their time in Valhalla is merely an extension of their time. They will still die. Eventually.â
Everyone looked at each other, still unable to believe what they heard.
Valkyrie frowned.
âAnd weâre just supposed to believe you?â
Hela chuckled.
âThatâs your problem, not mine.â
Hela no longer bothered with them as she suddenly turned into a crow and flew off somewhere.
Valkyrie was silent for a while before turning to Benjamin.
âWhat she saidâ¦is it real? My sistersâ¦theyâre still alive?â
Benjamin reassured her.
âShe has no reason to lie. If you want I can try and see if I can bring you to Valhalla without dying.â
âYou can do that?â
âNope. But I know someone who could.â
âWho?â
âHer Master. Death.â
â...â
Valkyrie was speechless.
How is it that when you say it, itâs like youâre just meeting your neighbor or somethingâ¦
Well, she didnât know that Death was already pregnant with Benjaminâs kidâ¦
Valkyrie sighed and shook her head.
âNo needâ¦as you said, she had no reason to lieâ¦alsoâ¦I thought I hated her butâ¦in the end, I just hate myself more.â
Thor approached and patted Valkyrie on the shoulder.
âThereâs no reason to hate yourself. In fact, if you think about it, my fatherâs the reason your sisters are dead. He shouldnât have sent you against her.â
â...â
Somewhere in Valhalla.
Odin suddenly sneezed out of nowhere.
â...I feel like someoneâs talking bad about meâ¦â
Beside him, his once Valkyrie General laughed while downing a barrel of mead.
âIâm sure they have every reason to do so.â
â...â
Back in Asgard.
âIn any case, letâs not brood over this matter. Come, we have a feast to prepare!â
Thor laughed.
Valkyrie looked at him with half-closed eyes and resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
Of course you only care about feasts. You should be called the God of Feasts instead.
Freyja shook her head at Thor and sighed.
She then turned back to Benjamin and Selene.
âRight, when you reach Omnipotence City, try to steer clear of Zeus.â
âWhy?â
âZeus and Odin hadâ¦shall we say, a rivalry between them. If Zeus finds out that you were the one to have battled Odin to his end, he might start something. Iâm sure youâll be fine but I imagine it would be quite annoying to deal with.â
â...Noted.â
Benjamin didnât want to meet that guy who sticks his thing in everything that moves anyway.
Beside him, Selene hummed.
âHm, too bad. I was curious what Zeus looked like.â
âIâm curious how Aphrodite looks like too.â
â...Iâm telling Master.â
â...I was joking.â
Besides, how beautiful can the Goddess of Beauty possibly be?
After seeing Death in the past when she wasnât holding back her charm, Benjamin was convinced he wouldnât be able to find anyone more beautiful.
âAnyway, weâre only going there to look for a way to go to Heven. I doubt weâll bump into Zeus randomly.â
