I sat frozen as Jameson came into the room, but immediately shot up out of my chair the closer he came over.
"It's not important," Jameson only raised his eyebrows at me in disbelief as he walked over to the desk, placing post his fists onto the dark oak as her levelled his brother with a glare.
"Clara is being haunted by rebels." Zack said it so calmy as he brushed off invisible dirt from his shirt. I was almost more angry that he didn't just spit it out to me that easily.
"Nothing important huh?" Jameson strode over to where I sheepishly stood, arms crossed defensively as I gave him a look that said 'sorry?'Â "You should have woken me." His eyes tore through mine as he searched for answers in mine, and I knew mine were scared as they stared back at his, unknowing what to even do in this situation.
"I'm sorry. Zack-" I gave him a pointed look "told me not too." My heart was beating so fast I needed to clam down, but this was way too much at once. I started tapping my fingers against my arm as I tried to take calming deep breaths.
One...two...three. Breathe.
"Hey," Jameson hand gently covered my fingers and guided me to the sofa on the other side of the room next to the coffee table, "I'm not angry with you okay? I'm just trying to figure out whats going on. Zack?" He turned his head back to this brother as Zack rolled his eyes and strode over to where we made ourselves comfortable, taking the armchair opposite us.
I zoned out as Zack began to fill Jameson in on everything that he said to me, the only thing reminding me being Jameson drawing small circles on my arm with his that was slung over my shoulder, shielding me from my anxiety.
"Fine. We're leaving tomorrow morning. We can't stay here longer, I-" Jameson's voice began to go rough as he tried to hide his emotions, but I knew what he was going to say.
"J it's okay, I'll feel safer back on campus than here-"
"Well that's just ridiculous," Zack spat out, earning a glare from me before I returned my focus back to Jameson.
"I mean, I'm sure the palace has great security," a small smile cracked between the sides of his lips, "butt, campus is even further south which is safer. And I can't hide here, I need to go back to our normal life." J nodded and looked to Zack, who simply blinked at us like we were mad.
"What- are you seri?- You know what, never-mind. Fine. But you will have full security with you at all times, and that is final."
We both nodded at the compromise, because I knew Jameson couldn't stay here with his father for much longer, and I couldn't stay here knowing Jameson had to live with that and without even having any familiarity of our routine.
Not having anything else to say, we all stood and went to leave, but Zack pulled Jameson back and muttered something so low I couldn't hear, but he simply gave a firm nod before joining me in the hallway and giving me a smile before his arm came back around my shoulder and we made his way back to his room. I leaned into his chest and savoured his warmth, wrapping my arm around his lower back to avoid his scars.
"You okay?" His voice was low, and I knew he was trying to cover up his own emotions, but I knew him well enough to pick up the slight fear in his voice.
"Mhm, yeah. I think you and I just need some sleep."
"I couldn't agree more." J opened the door back to his room and honestly I almost fell asleep as soon as I hit the mattress, Jameson dipping the bed as he layed next to me, his arm presuming its normal place around me. So normal and comforting.
Tomorrow was going to be fun.
