I sulked into my dorm room, flinging my bag lazily onto the floor as I threw myself onto my bed. Today had been a very...interesting day. I have to admit, despite my reluctance I actually had a good day.
Besides the detention of course.
The detention...
I glanced at my phone squinting, only to realise I have about an hour until my detention starts.
After about ten minutes I finally managed to actually get off my bed -I won't apologise for being lazy- and decided to go for a walk. I quickly applied some more lipgloss and mascara and fixed my hair before making my way to the door.
And that's when I saw a little white envelope on the floor.
I frowned, wondering who this could possibly be from and cautiously picked it up. The paper was expensive and smooth, with gold etching the corners with the school logo in the centre.
Who's this from? Am I being kicked out the school already on my first day? Am I in more trouble for getting a detention?
Sweating slightly, I reluctantly yet eagerly opened the letter. The more I read, the more my hands shook and the more my eyes started to water.
I was not expecting that.
More desperate to go on a walk than I have ever been, I grabbed a jacked and practically bolted from my room.
ââ-âââ-
I stood outside the gymnasium, the letter still clutched in my hand.
Still shaking slightly, I scanned over the neat cursive again to make sure I was in the right place. It turns out the principle had sent me this, with directions to the gymnasium.
He didn't say anything else apart from: "I'm sure you will figure out the rest."
Inside the bottom of the envelope was a key. A key to which I presume unlocks the gym doors. He stated in the letter that I have access to the gym whenever I please. Weird right?
After fumbling with the key for five minutes, I finally opened the door and slipped inside.
Automatic lights blinded me as they, one by one, turned on, lighting up a huge room. The first thing I noticed was the huge ice rink in the centre with hockey sticks leaving against the wall beside it.
To the left, stood doors with signs pointing to the sports hall, gym and pool.
To the right stood changing rooms, a cafe and locker rooms.
Bleachers rose to the ceiling around the ice rink.
Whoa.
Why did the Principle give me a key to this? He probably got the wrong person, I thought to myself as I wondered over to the ice rink and leant against the small wall surrounding it.
I let out a heavy sign, staring at the now crumpled letter in my hands as if the answer would suddenly come to me, but of course, it didn't.
My heart rate finally went back to normal as I realised there's nothing here. I'll ask him what he meant in the letter the next time I see him, I decided.
Suddenly, double doors swung open, causing my heart rate -again *que eye roll*- to nearly jump out of my chest. My eyes started to the doors as four shadows emerged.
Oh no. This is not good.
This is not good.
This is not good.
I repeated the words over in my head, frantically trying to find a way out.
Pretending I'm in a James Bond movie, I quickly glanced to the shadows and found they had gone in different directions. Few!
I let out a shaky laugh of relief as I crept over to the exit. A buzzing sound came from my phone. I continued towards the exit as I read about a gazillion messages from my father, angry messages.
He must have found out about the detention. But why does he care? He hasn't asked me how I am or if I'm okay since I flew across the country to go to this school. For all he knows I could have been kidnapped. A little dramatic- I know. But then again I'm sick of him not caring but then suddenly appearing to give me a speech about every little mistake I have ever made.
It's infuriating. I switched off my phone, frowning slightly. I mean who does he think h-
I snapped out of my thoughts as I crashed into a wall. No, not a wall...
Oh my gosh.
My eyes practically popped out of my sockets as I looked up hesitantly to see that my worst nightmare had come true.
I looked up, only to be met with piercing sea green eyes. Standing before me was no other than Jameson Woods, and let me tell you he looks angry. Deadly angry. Angry at me. His jawline looks sharper than a knife, his eyes glistening a dangerous green and his lips circled into a sneer.
He looks as good as he did the first time I had seen him, only now he didn't look so friendly. He looked like he was about to murder somebody and I had a very good feeling that somebody was me.
"Are you done starting?" His deep velvety voice drooled dangerously. I instantly stepped back, suddenly aggravated by his rudeness. I cursed myself silently. He folded his arm, drawing my eyes to his strong biceps, but I quickly averted my gaze and to my luck, I felt my cheeks go slightly red, but I repressed the thought and ignored it.
Great.
"Sorry, I didn't see you." I rushed while fumbling with the letter in my hands. I took a chance of meeting his gaze again. His eyes bore into mine, the dangerous glint still present.
"Clearly." He scoffed, and averted his gaze.
Seriously? Why am I being like this? I'm not letting this guy intimidate me.
I stood up straighter and rolled my eyes as I went to walk past him.
"Wait." He mumbled.
I turned quickly, waiting for him to speak. This time I folded my arms and waited. "How did you get in?" He glared, his tone threatening.
"The principle gave me a key." I stated curtly. Great going Clara, we're doing great here.
"Only the coach and captains get keys." He retaliated.
I let out a sign, not having enough energy to argue and just handed him the strange letter I was given. His fingers brushed against mine, sending chills up my spine which I silently cursed myself for and he began to read the letter.
I waited silently and saw how his brows furrowed as he read on and on. He handed back the letter.
"I'm just as confused as you are." I signed, folding the letter back up. He only nodded in response.
Suddenly, three figures came jogging up to us.
Oh no.
I saw a mop of blonde hair on one and a mop of brown hair on the other two.
As if this could get any more awkward.
"Jameson! Man, you really- really need to answer your phone so- so we don't have to run around the WHOLE GYM." Xavier gasped and slapped his arm which did nothing due to his exhaustion. The twins soon came up behind him, looking tired but not so out of breath as Xavier.
Thomas ran his hands through his hair as Grayson patted Xavier who bless him was sill gasping for breath. Jameson looked unamused, and just rolled his eyes.
"I would have answered." He shot me a glare. "If I wasn't caught up." He replied sarcastically, more to me than to the boys. It was then the three of them noticed me.
"Clara?" They all questioned simultaneously.
Kinda creepy.
I said nothing but smiled awkwardly.
"What are you doing here?" Thomas tiled his head to the side, confused as the other two nodded their heads.
"I- um, well..." I tried to tell them but I couldn't exactly pinpoint it so I handed Thomas the letter like I did with Jameson and again waited as the three of them huddled to read it.
"Xavier move your head I can't see." Grayson nudged him to the side. He snatched the letter into his hands.
"Now I can't see!" Thomas complained, reaching for the letter.
"Guys seriously just shut up and read it." Xavier shushed then and surprisingly they complied and fell back into silence.
I folded my arms awkwardly, tapping my foot on the floor.
"Are they always like this?" I mumbled so only Jameson could hear me. I'm surprised I managed to even ask him that question. I was even more surprised when he let out a little laugh. I looked up at him, shocked and caught a glimpse of his smile as he laughed. He should smile more, it's suits him. He looks less...intimidating that way.
But as quickly as it happened, he corrected himself and resumed being how he was earlier. "Pretty much." He quickly answered in a tone that said 'this conversation is over.' I nodded, not wanting to push further and turned back to the others.
Grayson handed back the letter. "It's definitely strange." He looked around in thought, trying to solve whatever the principle meant.
I looked at Xavier and he just shrugged. "I've got nothing." He scratched his neck, thinking.
Thomas shook his head too. I let out a sign, folding the letter away. "Neither do I."
My phone buzzed again. I rolled my eyes, taking it out to read what else my father has to say. I didn't even bother to read them. I just switched it off, but not before noticing the time.
Detention starts in 3 minutes. I snapped my gaze to Xavier. He furrowed his brown at my panicked expression. His eyes widened when it finally kicked.
"Oh shoot. We gotta run." I nodded and started to follow him out of the gym, the others trailing behind.
"To what?" Thomas shouted. Grayson slapped his arm as he too realised the time.
"We have detention idiot." I tried to stifle a laugh at Thomas's mortified expression.
"Usually I wouldn't care but I'm not having my time doubled for being late. Let's go guys. We'll see you later Jameson." Thomas started to speed ahead. Jameson just looked bored.
"I'm coming too." He waved his detention slip for us to see.
Great.
