Cove's POV
After River left yesterday, I did some homework then went to bed. This morning I woke up a few minutes early, so I decided to take a nice long shower and pick out an extra cute outfit for the day.
My outfit consists of a cute pink shirt that ends at around my bellybutton, cuffed denim jeans and white converse. I know that I said I don't own nor wear a lot of crop-tops, but this is one of the shirts Leah said that I just HAD to get at the mall on Friday.
Plus, I'm starting to like them a lot more then I used to.
After changing into my outfit, I put my hair in a half up half down style with the hair that's up braided into a bun. I even applied some mascara and sparkly pink lipgloss.
I hopped downstairs and made some Nutella toast for breakfast. As I took the last bite, the doorbell rang. I sprung up from my chair and ran to answer the door.
"Good morning River!" I chirped as soon as I opened the door. He smiled down at me, but his smile quickly turned into a deep chuckle.
I tilted my head in question, making River laugh even harder. I couldn't hold back a smile at the sound of his laughter, although I still don't know what he's laughing at.
"B-baby you have Nutella all over your face, here," he breathes out through laughter. My face heats up in a deep blush, but before I could wipe it off with my hand, River beat me to it.
I watched silently as he wiped all around my mouth and along my chin with his thumb.
He then took his thumb, and stuck it in my mouth! My eyes widened and I immediately spit it out, making a popping sound.
River laughed and wiped his now wet thumb on his pants to dry it.
"There."
I started up at him, still confused and embarrassed by our previous encounters. River chuckled at me and gently pushed me inside.
I snapped out of it and walked in. River followed and we sat down on the couch.
"Baby toda-" he starts saying, but cut himself off as his eyes grow a few shades darker.
He slowly brought his hand forwards as I stare at him in confusion. He smirks and gently traces something on my neck. Oh my goodness I forgot.
"You didn't cover them up?" He questions with a pleased tone. I shook my head and bolted upstairs to my bathroom.
I look in the mirror to see a handful of quarter sized purple hickeys all along my neck. How did I not notice this? I almost went to school like that!!
I quickly covered them up with concealer, and grabbed the tube to put in my backpack in case it rubs off.
As I got back downstairs, I saw
River sitting in the exact same spot looking slightly disappointed.
"Oh don't give me that look, I think we both know that there no way that I could've gone to school like this!" I exclaimed.
River faced me with a smirk on his face. "Why not," he teased. I glared at him and quickly slipped the tube of concealer in my backpack before slinging it over my shoulder and walking to the door.
"Baby I'm just kidding!" He chuckled as he followed me out the door and to his car. I smiled when I noticed that he's driving a new car that I've never seen before. It's a pretty dark blue color.
"Oh, do you like it baby?" River asks sounding a little shocked. I nodded and smiled at him, showing my beautiful white teeth.
He chuckled and opened the door for me, and I whispered a small thanks. He smiled in return, then got in the drivers seat.
"It's a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette, although it's actually not mine, It's my parents. But since they left it at home, I guess I'm allowed to drive it and I just wanted to switch things up, you know?"
He rambled while pulling out of my driveway.
I giggled at how he rambled on, and I swear I could see a light blush crawling up his ears. But as quickly as it appeared, it vanished.
You know I've never really heard River talk about his parents before. All I know is that that they're rich, and by what little he's said, I'm assuming that they're business people that are always away on business trips.
On a certain level I can relate. I mean, my parents are almost always at work. From before I wake up, to after I fall asleep, they're at work.
Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful for all of their hard work, and I'm sure that it's nothing compared to how River feels. But I don't know, sometimes I just wish that they were home more.
"Hey, you okay baby?" River asks with concern lace in his voice. I didn't even noticed that I kinda drifted off with a pained expression on my face.
"No yeah, I'm fine. Perfect actually," I assured him. He gave me a look like he doesn't quite believe me, then he wordlessly sighed and placed his hand on my thigh, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
I smiled at him just for extra reassurance, making him chuckle and smile back. I smiled even more at his smile, something I just realized I've only seen him do with me.
We soon arrived at school. Ughh I really don't want to go today, I'd rather be cuddling with River and watching Netflix again. And to make it worse, it's barely even Tuesday!
"C'mon baby, you don't want to be late, do you?" River questioned as he hopped out the car. I shook my head and grabbed my backpack while waiting for him to open my door.
As soon as he opened the door, I hopped out and we joined hands as we walked inside. River dropped me off at my first period, then went the opposite direction of his class. I wonder where he's going.
After my extremely boring class where I just sat and drew small flowers and hearts in my pink notebook, I headed to my next class. Yay, River is going to be here!
Or so I thought until and I entered and didn't see him anywhere. Umm, maybe he's just running late. Yeah, maybe.
I sat down with a smile on my face and waited patiently for him to come. As the minutes passes by, my smile slowly faded. When the teacher came in and closed the door behind them, my smile vanished completely and I lost all hope.
I mean, it's not the end of the world, but I was really looking forward to seeing him. I lowered my head with a small pout while listening to the teacher ramble on and on about the difference between comas and semicolons.
About half way through class, the door suddenly bursted open and in came River. My face lit up as he locked eyes at me, his once hard eyes immediately softening.
"Mr.Smith, your late!" The teacher boomed. River simply rolled his eyes and ignored our stunned teacher as he walked towards me.
He gave me a quick smile before sitting down in his chair and facing the front. I took that as a sign to also face forwards, and watched the teacher snap out of their daze and continue teaching.
After class ended, River softly took my hand and led me to my next class. He left, then I sat through the actually kinda interesting lecture until the bell rang, and now it's finally lunch!
I waited at River's locker for him to come. It only took him about 2 minutes to arrive, then we walked outside to our table hand in hand.
"Why did you come so late?" I asked once we had sat down. River tensed and stared down at the table, deep in his thoughts. I stared at him expectantly until he finally answered.
"I-um had something to do in the office," he said while nervously looking up at me. Huh, I never heard his name get called over the loud speaker. Maybe he knew before hand, but wouldn't he have told me?
I mean, maybe he forgot to tell me. His excuse isn't even that bad, it just doesn't add up. But why would he lie to me? And it's not like I have any reason not to believe him.
"Oh, okay," I answered. River sighed in relief and his muscles un-tensed at my response. I raised my eyebrows and narrowed my eyes at his odd behavior, making him smirk.
"Nothing baby," he chuckled. I laughed along while pulling out my lunch, then I silently ate it while River stared at me like a creepo.
When I finished, he pulled me to his side and pushed my head onto his shoulder.
"I have to go."
River's POV
A few hours earlier...
As Cove heads upstairs to sadly cover up her hickeys, or as I like to call them, my marks, I got a call from one of my guys. His name is Leo and he's the head of all our shipments and drug deals.
"Hello?" I answer. I'm in an awfully good mood after seeing Cove this morning, usually I'd just answer by saying 'What the f*ck do you want.'
"I-um boss do you remember that kid named Andy that you made a trade with a few weeks ago?" He asks, obviously a little taken aback by my cheerfulness.
"Yeah, what about him?" I questioned. Our trade went good, so I'm assuming that he's probably wants to make another one.
"Yeah well he wants to make another today, he's hoping for four bags of coke, 2 pounds of weed and 7 grams of crystal." Holy sh*t that's a lot.
"No way, I can't trust him yet," I deadpanned. I can't allow what happened with Hector to happen again.
"But sir, here's the thing. He's willing to pay 850," Leo reasoned. I don't want to be greedy, but that's a really good deal. Maybe if I'm just careful- no I can't fall for it.
"Well, I'm still not sure that we can trust him," I say. As much as I want to take the deal, I know that we really can't.
"He said that he's willing to come empty handed, except for the money. You'll meet a few blocks away from school so that you can make sure that he has no other guys around," he informed.
I take a second to ponder this. This doesn't seem bad, and I don't have a feeling that anything will go wrong. Okay fine, I'll do it.
"Fine. Have guards prepared to come if I make the call, and tell him to meet me 5 minutes after the bell. I'll meet him to collect the money, then have someone come deliver the goods," I conclude before hanging up and slipping my phone back in my pocket.
Not even a second later, Cove comes down the stairs with her hickeys all covered up, making me feel a little disappointed.
She makes a comment about it, then we walk outside and talk about the car that I brought. Honestly, I don't really know why I chose this car, I guess I just wanted Cove to see something a little bit different. Good thing she likes it.
We got to school and I dropped Cove off at her class, then I went the opposite direction of my class and walked to our meeting spot.
When I arrived, I saw Andy looking around with his hands in his pockets. I may or may not be a tiny bit late, but whatever. I do what I want.
"Andy," I called out, my voice sounding bored and emotionless. He quickly whipped his head in my direction and gave me a stiff nod, although I can tell that he's bitting back a smile.
"Sooo, how do we do this?" He asks one he realized that I'm not going to say anything until he talks first.
"Hand over the payment and one of my men will drop off your stuff," I replied blatantly.
It's like something clicked in Andy's brain, and he immediately took his hands out of his pockets, pulling out a few fat wads of cash.
I took them from his hands and quickly counted $900, all in hundred dollar bills. Hah! If he thinks I'm giving him change, he better think again.
I pocketed the money, resulting in Andy making a small sound of protest. But a single hard glance from me made him shut up. He needs to learn the hard way, dealers at this level don't give change, so you bring the exact amount that you're paying.
"My guy is coming," I finally spoke before turning to walk off. A hand grabbing my arm made me stop mid turn and turn back to face the kid.
His eyes widened at the angered look on my face, and he quickly spit out apologizes while stepping back.
It took everything in me not pull out my gun and shoot a warning shot in his arm. I hate being touched, unless It's Cove.
I raised an eyebrow, signaling to speak and he quickly re-composed himself.
"I-um, I w-was wondering I-if I can maybe join y-your gang," he offered. This surprised me and I turned to face him completely.
He's too young, but he might have potential. I guess he wouldn't be the first to start at around this age, he just needs to know what he's getting himself into.
"Do you realize that once you join, you can't leave?" I questioned. He smiled at my reply and quickly answered.
"Yes! Yes sir I do. I'm ready to make this decision, and I really want to be apart of your gang," he retorted.
I thought for a second, then stiffly nodded. He really isn't ready to make the decision, but whatever, he'll realize his mistake in 2-3 years. Until then, he might be useful to me.
"Layout at 1:00. Ask the deliverer for directions," I spat before turning and walking away. In my peripheral vision, I saw Andy silently celebrating to himself. Oh boy, he's has no idea what mess he's getting himself into.
I got to school about halfway through second period. Dammit! My plan was to get back before second period so that Cove won't question where I went. Welp, it's too late now.
I barged into the room, completely ignoring the teacher and looking around for Cove. As soon as I locked eyes with her, my face softened and my mood did a full 180.
I walked towards my desk and smiled at Cove before sitting down in my chair and facing the teacher. I made it seem like I'm paying attention, but really I'm obsessing over the fact that Cove's face lit up as soon she saw me.
I'm so happy that I make her happy. Just the sight of me lifts her mood, I think. I guess I don't really know how she feels on the inside, but from the outside, it sure looks like that.
The bell soon rang and I dropped Cove off at her class, then I went outside and decided to skip. There's no point in going to class if Cove's not in it.
I ended up smoking until the lunch bell rang, then I went back inside and found Cove waiting for me at my locker.
I smiled at her and we walked to the table that we've been sitting at a lot lately. Then came the dreaded question.
"Why did you come so late?" My body tensed up and I froze up. Dammit, I should have thought of an excuse before hand!
"I-um had something to do in the office," was my lame a** excuse. Cove went into a deep thought before finally responding.
"Oh, okay." My muscles instantly relaxed and I let out a sigh of relief, making Cove raise her eyebrows.
"Nothing baby," I chuckled and she laughed along, then pulled out her lunch.
I watched her eat her small sandwich and frowned. She doesn't eat enough, a sandwich is not a lot.
I know it's kind of hypocritical because I never eat anything myself, but that's because I usually eat somewhere else.
But now with Cove, I've never really had the chance. This is about her though, not me. I need to find a way to get her to eat more.
Once she finished, I pulled her to my side and wrapped my arm around her small frame, pushing her head into my shoulder. I have to tell her bad news.
"I have to go."
Cove's body tensed and she looked up at me with wide, innocent eyes. My heart nearly melted and I instantly regretted not making Andy wait until tonight.
"Why?" She whispered, her sad eyes never leaving mine.
"I have to go do something, but I'll be back to take you home," I replied as softly as I could muster while lightly running my fingers through her silky blond locks.
"B-but," she stuttered. I shushed her gently and pushed her head into my chest.
"I'm sorry baby, I'm sorry," I cooed while rubbing her back with one hand, the other one still busy playing with her hair.
Cove whimpered quietly and pushed herself further into my grasp. I pulled her up to straddle my lap and tilted her chin up.
"I'll be back soon baby, I promise." She nodded and I hugged her for the next 20 minutes until the bell rang.
I placed her on the ground and walked her to class, leaving her with a peck on her forehead and the promise to come back soon.
I left school and drove to the layout, my mood quickly turning sour. I left a sad Cove behind, and I'm really not in the mood to deal with a newbie right now.
When I arrived, I went straight inside and headed to the meeting room that Andy probably was directed to. Sure enough, as soon as I entered I found him fidgeting around in a chair.
I shut the door and sat down at the desk in front of him. His head shot up and he gave me a pathetic smile, making me roll my eyes and lean back in my seat.
"Why do you want to join my gang and what do you have to offer?" I asked, cutting right to the chase. Andy looked a bit shocked at my directness, but he quickly responded.
"Umm well I figured that since we've been working well together with me buying drugs and stuff, it would be nice to work together," he answered shyly. I nodded for him to continue, and he did.
"I'm willing to take any position that you want me to, a-and I can do whatever task you give me!" Wow. Those are so strong promises.
"Okay. Since you seem to like drug deals so much, you'll be a runner. Leo will come talk to you about training in a few minutes," I replied, and with that I stood up to go.
I heard him say thank you, but I ignored him and closed the door. I called Leo and told him to come talk to Andy, then left to go pick up Cove.
Yay I get to see Cove again. I got to school quickly and parked my car, then got out and went towards the front to wait for Cove.
The bell rang and Cove was the one of the first people to come outside. She quickly spotted me leaning against the wall and her face lit up just like it did last time. She practically ran to me and caged me in a hug.
I hugged her back as I felt the stares of some nosy kids on us. I glared at them, making the turn away and return to minding their own business.
"Let's go home," I whispered in Cove's ear. She nodded against my chest, then I lead her to my car.
We got to her house quickly and I walked her inside. I waited at the door to make sure that she gets to her room safely, but before going upstairs, Cove turned to face me.
"Bye River, see you tomorrow!" She exclaimed before turning back and running upstairs. The corner of my lips turned up and I replied, even though she can't hear me.
"Goodbye baby, I'm looking forward to seeing you again tomorrow. You are the light of my world."
I left with only one thought in mind. What is this girl doing to me?
Little do I know, she heard every word I said. Little do I know, she feels the exact same way.
