Cove's POV
I woke up to a bunch of text messages wishing me happy birthday.
Happy birthday babe, love you girly pop ð¥³ð¥° -Leah
Happy birthday beautiful ð- Sydney
Happy birthday Cove I'm so glad we're friends ð- Emma
Happy birthday gurl, finally 16. Ugh I can't believe my baby is growing up ð¤¦ââï¸ - Lizzy
I thanked all of them then looked through my group chat I have with all of my friends to see that they planned a surprise for me since I love surprises. Leah said she'll pick me up at 1.
As I got up to go shower and change into my outfit that I already picked last night, I got another text.
Happy birthday baby! You're 16 just like me now! Call me whenever you have some time so I can tell you our plans.
As you can probably guess, that's from River. I quickly shot him a reply before getting into the shower.
Thank you River! I'll call you after breakfast. I'm so excited for whatever you have planned!!!
I took my time showering since it's barely 9:30, I even used a special body wash with sparkles in it!
Once I got out and dried off, I put on my first outfit for the day. It's white crop top and a pink skirt. The outfit shows just a sliver of stomach (this one is at the top).
I then sat down and did a pretty complex hairstyle where I put half of my hair up into a bow shape and curled the rest.
Finally I did my makeup, adding pink glittery eyeshadow, pink lipstick and some light pink blush to complement my outfit.
Once I finally finished getting ready, I grabbed my phone and headed downstairs for breakfast.
"Good morning," I greeted my lovely parents who are sitting on couch drinking coffee while watching the news.
"Good morning sweetie you look beautiful," my Dad completed.
"Thanks Dad," I smiled and sat down next to them.
"Happy birthday baby, we made you crepes with Nutella," a wide grin spread across my face at my mom's words, and I quickly thanked her before rushing to the table.
Sure enough there sits a beautiful breakfast of Nutella crepes with strawberries and bananas inside. To drink there's a glass of my favorite chocolate milk.
"Thank you!" I said as they both sat down with their almost empty mugs . They nodded and I began to devour my food.
The pancake parts are the perfect temperature, and the Nutella is nearly melting in my mouth.
"Mmmmm," I mumbled, making my parents chuckle.
It didn't take long for me to finish eating and I put everything away, then went back up to my room so that I can call River.
The phone rang out 6 times before he finally picked up.
"Hello?"
"River!"
"Oh hi baby, happy birthday!"
"Thank you!"
"At 6 I'm going to pick you up for a special dinner, Is that okay?"
"Yes!"
"Okay you'll want to dress pretty fancy."
"Okay, see you soon."
"Bye angel"
"Bye."
With that he hung up. I squealed and looked at the time to see that it's already 11. Leah won't get here for another 2 hours, so I decided to go hang out with my parents for a bit.
"I'm back!" I announced once I got downstairs. My parents, who've returned to their spots on the couch, turned to look at me and smiled.
"Hi baby," my mom said while patting the spot in between them. I sat down and leaned back against the cushion.
"We wanted to give you this," Dad says as he turns off the TV and hands me a small pink gift bag with white poke-a-dots and white tissue paper. I smiled and opened it up.
Inside there's a small white jewelry box. I quickly took it out and opened it up. I looked in a saw a beautiful silver ring with an infinity sign on it.
A huge grin took over my face as I looked up at my parents' smiling faces.
"It's a promise ring. Your mom and I both have one and they signify that we'll always be there for you, no matter what."
As he said that, they both showed me their index fingers. Sure enough, Mom has a rose gold one and dad has a black one. All of ours match perfectly.
"Thank you guys, they're so beautiful!" I beamed. They nodded and pulled me into a group hug.
"We love you so much sweetie," Mom whispered as she placed a kiss on my forehead. Dad repeated the action before we all pulled away.
"I love you too," I responded. They smiled once again, then turned the TV back on.
We sat and watched an old comedy for the next hour and a half, constantly joking with each other and laughing at the TV.
I miss this, just being able to hang out a spend time together as a family.
All too soon, I heard a family honk from outside.
"Welp, that's my cue! See you in a few hours," I announced as I stood up from the couch and put my shoes on.
"Bye sweetheart, have fun!"
"Bye old man!"
I closed the door and skipped over to Leah's car. I slid into the back next to Emma since the passenger seat is already taken by Sydney.
"Let the birthday girl have the front!" Leah whined.
"No it's okay, I'm fine," I objected. Leah looked at me unsurely through the mirror, and I smiled at her for reassurance.
"Okay, whatever you want Cove. Lizzy took her own car so that she'll have room for all the chairs. drinks and snacks," Leah announced.
"Chairs drinks and snacks? Where are we going?"
"To a music festival!" Sydney shouted. I smiled and clapped my hand together in excitement.
"Yay!" I giggled. The girls smiled at me and Leah turned on the radio.
Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles blasted through the speakers and we all started to sing along.
"Breath me in, Breath me out"
"I don't know if I could even go without, I'm just thinking out loud, I don't know if I could ever go without"
"Watermelon sugar high"
"Watermelon sugar high"
"Watermelon sugar high"
"Watermelon sugar high"
Okay I'm just going to stop here.
We soon arrived to a parking lot in front of a giant field with a big wooden stage at the front.
"C'mon, Lizzy is already waiting for us," Leah said. We all got out and walked to the entrance where Sydney gave them our tickets and they gave us some wristbands in return.
Once we put them on, they let us go and we walked towards the middle of the field. I quickly spotted the familiar red head sitting on a huge picnic blanket, surrounded by chairs and food.
"Hey guys!" She greeted.
"Hi," we all responded.
She smiled and gestured for us to sit in the fold up chairs. I sat in a yellow one while Leah sat in a black on my left, Lizzy sat in a green one on my right and Sydney sat in a blue one next to Lizzy.
"So Cove, we decided to join all of your birthday presents into one big thing," Sydney announced as she pulled a big white box out from under her chair.
I smiled and opened it up. Inside theres's a few a candles, some perfume, lipgloss, a few different shades of nail polish, an eyeshadow palette, some bath bombs, a nice lotion, and a pink water bottle.
"Aww, thank you guys so much!" I gave them all hugs and they murmured you're welcomes.
"Only the best for you Cove, anyways, do you have any plans with River?" Leah asked, wiggling her eyebrows at me. I sighed dramatically and leaned back in my chair.
"Well if you MUST know, he's taking me to a surprise at 6!"
"Yay girl, I'm so excited for you!" Lizzy squealed. I swear they're acting like we're all dating.
"Yeah me too," I whispered. Leah opened her mouth to say something else, but she got interrupted by a local band call "The Black Condas," walking on stage.
(An: they're completely made up by the way)
Cheers erupted throughout the whole stage as they set everything up and the lead singer, Roni, walked up to the microphone.
"Good afternoon everyone! I hope that everyone is having a great time so far, and if you aren't then I hope that you cheer up because it's time to PARTY!"
I clapped along with many others, then the singers all got in their places. As soon as the beat started playing, I knew that this will be one of the best days ever.
An hour later:
This has to be the best thing I've ever been to. The music is great, the food even better.
Right now is the intermission, and all of my friends stood up.
"C'mon Cove, we have to show you something," Sydney grinned.
I eyed her cautiously, but got up and followed them anyways. They led me all the way to some doors behind the giant stage. This looks like an authorized personnel only spot.
Leah beamed at me as Lizzy knocked three times on one of the doors. It opened up to reveal a guy with a fancy looking walkie-talkie and clipboard.
"Hi, were here for our reservation under Cove," Sydney spoke. I looked at Leah confusingly, to which she just shrugged and smiled.
"Ah yes, right this way ma'am." He lead us into the room and to some stairs. He swiped some sort of key card and we walked down to this cool looking basement area.
The guy motioned for us to sit on some brown couches before disappearing back up the stairs.
"Guys what are we doing?" I asked. They all look at me with huge smiles while Leah answered.
"Well, a few hours ago River called me, which is a little weird since I never gave him my number but that's besides the point. He asked me a few questions about what food you like, then he asked what we are doing. When I told him about the festival, he said that he wanted to set up a special surprise."
As she said that, there was the sound of an unlocking door followed by several sets of footsteps.
Wait. Is this what I think it is!?
"I heard we have a birthday girl down here!" I looked up and gasped. Roni and his four other band mates, Nova, Jake and Eliza are standing right in front of us.
"Cove right?" Eliza asks. It took me a few seconds to register what she said, but when I did I nodded with wide eyes.
Leah lightly pushed on my back, signaling for me to stand up and greet them.
"Hi," I whispered and stuck out my hair to shake theirs. They chuckled and each took turns shaking my hand back and introducing themselves, as if I don't already know who they all are and pretty much everything that they like.
"So we were told to give you this," Jake announced as he pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to me. I took it and opened up to reveal a note:
Hi baby, I hope that you're enjoying the show so far. I wanted to do something special when I figured out where you're going, I know that you love this band a lot. I can't wait for our date later tonight!
-River
I smiled for ear to ear and thanked Jake, to which he just nodded. Leah put the note in her pocket since I don't have any.
"Well, we only have a few minutes before we have to head back on stage, do you want to take some pictures?" Roni asked.
We nodded and everyone stood up. We then took turns taking pictures individually and in groups, then all together.
Sadly, after about ten minutes of taking pictures and having a light friendly conversation, our time was up.
"Well, it was really nice to meet all of you guys, but we have to go. I hope that you have an amazing birthday Cove," Eliza announced.
"Yeah it was great, thank you!" I replied. My friends also thanked them and we headed towards the exit.
"Wait! Before you go we have to give you one last thing," Nova said. He handed me something wrapped in sloppy wrapping paper, then they all disappeared up the stairs before I could even respond.
I shrugged and glanced at Leah before cautiously tearing open the colorful paper. Inside is a signed copy of my favorite album "Dark red secrets."
My friends all gasped from behind me. This band never EVER signs anything for anyone.
I wonder what River did for them to give me this. Whatever it is, it must have been good. And extremely expensive.
"Cove! You're so so so lucky, you shouldn't let anyone see that!" Sydney warned. I nodded, still too shocked to answer verbally.
"Here, I'll take it since I have a purse with me. Let's go back so that we don't miss anything," Emma said.
I nodded again and she put it in her bag, then we headed back. We got to our seats just as the band got back on stage.
"We're back guys, and we're feeling better then ever! I hope everyone had a nice break, because this is going to be a crazy ride!"
The crowd erupted in cheers, and I leaned back in the seat with a smile on my face.
I am so lucky to have such a caring and amazing boyfriend. I'm so lucky to have River.
The show just ended and woah, that was so much fun. We just got back into Leah's car, we'll everyone except for Lizzy.
"Cove I'll drop you off first so that you can get ready for your date with River!" Leah said. I smiled at her and nodded.
We got to my house pretty quickly and Sydney gave me the album, while Leah gave me the note. I thanked everyone before going inside and taking off my shoes.
My parents are in the exact same spot, except now they're watching a basketball game. I greeted them warmly, then ran upstairs to get ready.
It's currently 4:30, which gives me just enough time. I still haven't decided on an outfit yet though.
I spent about 20 minutes looking through my closet before finally decided on a simple but beautiful dress.
I slipped it on, then fixed up my makeup to make it look more fancy and less childish.
I still made the main color pink to match my pink dress, but I did everything way better and fancier. I even did my eyebrows and put fake lashes on.
After that, I sprayed a tiny bit of fancy perfume and took my hair out. The bow thing is starting to give me a headache.
I searched through my drawers until I found this grayish white flowery hair thing. I then twisted my wavy hair up and clipped it with the flower thing.
Finally, I slipped on a pair of sparkly silver heels. They're about 4 inches, so they make look pretty tall. Nothing compared to River's height though, he's like 6'1 I think.
Now that I'm done, I headed back downstairs. It's 5:50 so River will be here any minute now.
"Cove you look amazing baby, where are you going again?" Mom asks as soon as I passed by them.
"River is taking me to dinner! He told me to dress fancy." I smiled at them as they processed my answer.
"Wait, you and that River kid are still together! I forgot about him!" Dad exclaimed. I playfully glared at him for his low expectations on River and I's relationship.
"Honey, let them be. They're so cute together!" Mom scolded. I smiled victoriously as dad huffed. Dads, gotta love them.
The clock flashed 5:55, so I quickly hugged them goodbye and walked outside.
My heart started beating super fast as I stood at the doorsteps and waited. What if I don't look good enough? What if I dress too fancy? Or not fancy enough?
No, It's okay Cove. You're fine just the way you are.
At exactly 6:00, Rivers black car came driving down the road.
Everything seemed to be in slow motion as he slowed down a parked in front of my mailbox. Then he opened the door.
Out came a extremely attractive looking River, clad in a white dress shirt with black dress pants.
He slowly walked over to me with a pretty bouquet of pink, orange, yellow and white flowers.
"Hi baby," he husked as he handed me the flowers. I smiled and took them, whispering thank you.
River's eyes scanned my whole body and darkened significantly. I didn't miss how his tongue darted out to lick his lips when his eyes met my bare legs.
"You look absolutely beautiful," he complemented, his voice sounding deeper then before.
"Thanks, you don't look to bad yourself!" He finally looked backup to meet my eyes and the corners of his lips lifted slightly at my comment.
"Thank you," he mumbled before connecting our lips in a soft kiss. I kissed back for a few seconds before he pulled away.
"C'mon then, let's go so that we won't miss our reservations," he whispered as he took my hand in his.
We walked to his car and he held the door open for me. I thanked him as I got in and buckled up. He nodded and got in the driver's side.
"The drive is going to be about 40 minutes to an hour, why don't you tell me about you day?" He suggested as we drove off.
"Well, as you know I went to the music festival. It was really fun and we had LOTS of food. Also, thanks to you I got to meet the singers! They're so so nice and we got lots of pictures."
"They also gave me a signed copy of my favorite album from them, even though they NEVER sign ANYTHING. I don't know how you did that, but thank you SO much River," I rambled.
River grinned at me and placed his hand on my thigh.
"I glad you had fun baby, and it was nothing," he winked. I smiled back as the car filled with a comfortable silence.
About 45 minutes later, we arrived to a very expensive looking restaurant. The outside is brown with white accents and huge gold double doors.
River got out and open the door for me. He then put his hand on my lower back and lead me inside.
The inside is amazing. It looks like everything in here is worth at least a thousands dollars each.
There's giant brown tables and fancy golden rugs. The reception counter is made of prices less white marble and a dark dark, almost black wood. The lights even have a nice yellowish gold tint to them.
When we got to the receptionist, they didn't even ask for a name and instead lead us right to a fancy booth in the back.
I wonder how often River comes here for them to recognize him as soon as he enters.
We sat down and the receptionist gave us both menus. When he walked away, I opened it up.
"River, why aren't there prices?"
He chuckled at me and pulled me to his side. "Because, lots of restaurants like these don't have prices since the only people who go to them are super rich."
I looked at him weirdly but let it go. That's kinda weird to me, wouldn't you still want to see how much you're paying, even if you can afford it?
"I don't know what to get," I sighed after looking through every section of the menu, and trust me, it's big. I was going to get a BLT, but there's like 7 different types.
"I think you'd like the cheese ravioli," he suggested.
"Which one?" I mumbled under my breath, but apparently he heard me because he started laughing.
"This one, it has a bit of garlic but trust me, it's really good." I thought for a second, then nodded my head.
"Good," he whispered before pressing a little button on the table. Not even 5 seconds later, a waitress appeared.
River told her our order, which consists of garlic cheese ravioli, a steak with some fancy plant that I don't know how to pronounce, a Sheerly temple (with no alcohol) and a drink that I don't recognize.
While we waited for the food, I asked River lots of questions about the restaurant. I can tell that it amuses him, but I'm just really curious.
Finally, the food came and we started eating. This, this is absolutely delicious. It's probably the best thing I've ever tasted.
"Do you like it?" River asked. I nodded profusely since theirs still food in my mouth.
"Good, I'm glad," he mumbled before taking a bite out of his steak. I smiled at him in return.
It only took me about 15 minutes to finish eating because it was just that good. But then I noticed something.
"River I finished first! I finished before you!" I cheered. He laughed at my excitement and rubbed my side with his hand.
"Yes you did, good job," he complimented, not bothering to point out how his plate is at least two times bigger then mine.
I leaned my head on shoulder while he continued to eat. Gosh he eats as slow as a turtle.
"You know you're so adorable right baby?" River suddenly blurted out. A dark blush crawled up my face as I groaned and hid my face in his neck.
He chuckled and pulled my head away from his neck, forcing me to look at him.
"You are though, you're adorable and beautiful."
I blushed even harder a scooted away from him.
"Stopp" I whined.
He chuckled and pulled me back to him. "Okay baby, but it's true. Don't forget that."
I nodded into his chest and he hummed. I sighed and closed my eyes when he started to run his fingers through my hair, it feels really good so I don't care if it messes it up.
"Baby, I have something for you," River said after a few minutes of silence. I moved my head to look up at him and smiled when I saw a black box in his hands.
He handed it to me and I opened it up carefully. My smiled widened and basically went to my ears when I saw what's inside.
A diamond bracelet.
"Thank you so much River, I love it a lot," I whispered with tears in my eyes. He grinned and took it out, then put it on my wrist.
"I like your ring," he mumbled.
"Thank you, It's from my parents. They have matching ones, isn't that cool?"
"Yeah it is," he responded before putting my hand back on my lap and lacing our fingers together.
A wave of tiredness suddenly hit me and I yawned. River noticed so he quickly collected our plates and silverware together and pushed the little button.
"Hold on baby, let me just pay then we can go home." I nodded as the waitress came back over and handed him the bill.
He payed and soon enough, we were walking back to his car. He opened the door for me and I slipped in, then he got into the drivers seat.
The drive home was silent and only lasted around 40 minutes, although it felt like 10. River got out to walk me inside since it's dark outside.
"Thanks River, I had so much today!" I said once we got to the door.
"Of course baby, I'm glad you had fun. We should do this more often," he replied as he leaned in to give me a kiss.
This time, the kiss was fast-paced and passionate. His hands moved down to my waist and mine went up to his neck.
I reluctantly pulled away for air after a minute or two. He smirked down at me and gave me one last peck on my lips.
"We should do that more often as well."
I giggled at him and gave him one last hug before going inside.
