Cove's POV
River woke me up early the next morning.
"C'mon baby, I have be at the airport in an hour but I want to get breakfast on the way."
I groaned and slowly rolled over, letting my legs fall off the edge of the bed.
"Come onnn," he chuckled while pulling me on my feet. I whined and gripped his arms to steady myself.
"It's already half past five, we need to leave in 20 minutes. Here, change into this." He handed me a white shirt and leggings.
I sighed and took it, then went to the bathroom to change. After brushing my hair and teeth, I exited the room.
As I got downstairs, I saw River taking off Bubbles' leash. He must've taken her on a quick walk.
She came running to me, and I picked her up, letting her give me good morning licks.
"I'll miss you baby," I whispered into her fur.
"I'm sure Azalea will let you visit," River assured me. I nodded and gave her one last kiss before putting her down.
"Are you ready to go?"
"Yep." He grabbed my hand and we put on some shoes before going outside. River isn't t gonna say say bye to Azzy because he doesn't want to wake her up.
We got in his car and took off. I'm assuming he already put his suitcase in here earlier this morning.
"Do you want to go through Starbucks?" He asked a few minutes into the drive.
"Yes, please."
"Okay."
We went through the drive through and I got an iced chai latte with 2 pumps of mocha, while River got some plain ol black coffee. Who even likes black coffee? We also got banana and pumpkin bread to split.
It didn't take long before we arrived at the airport. River has some sort of parking permit, so he was able to park in a underground parking garage with an elevator going up to the airport.
On one hand, I'm happy that we don't have to walk a long distance to get there, but on the other, this just means I'll have less time to spend with River.
River squeezed my hand like he knows what I'm thinking. "Don't worry, my flight isn't for another 30 minutes. I also don't have to go through security so you can go with me all the way to the plane."
I nodded and gripped his hand tightly as the elevator doors opened and we stepped out.
He lead me through an empty hallway off to the side. Soon, we arrived at a beautiful lobby with a bar, couches, a few private rooms, and much more.
We walked straight out a door at the very back of the room. The chilly morning breeze immediately hit me as we walked outside, making me press myself against his warm body.
"Make sure to stay all the way to the left and don't go past the fences," River instructed over the loud noises of airplanes coming and going.
"This doesn't seen very safe River!"
"Technically we're not supposed to go this way, but I do it all the time. I'm supposed to check in and wait for them to come get me. Then they would lead me through a terminal and blah blah, it takes too much time."
By the time he finished talking, we arrived at a more quiet and fancy section of the runway. There are maybe 15 total jets parked here, all of them are much smaller and nicer than the planes.
"Okay, that one's mine," he said, pointing to a very nice white jet with gold rims. "I don't even know why they still bother to connect it to the terminal."
I shook my head and let out a amused breath. When we got in front of the jet, my eyes widened. I look like an ant standing next to it, it's huge.
"Hello mr. Smith, Mr. Espinosa did not inform me that you would be accompanied by anyone. Who is this young lady?" Said an elderly man as he came out of the front of the plane. I'm assuming he's the pilot.
"This is my girlfriend, Cove. She will not be accompanying me, only staying until I leave. I expect someone to take her to a taxi safety after we take off, yes?"
I had to bite my lip to not laugh at how fancy they're talking. Rich people things.
"Yes sir. I'll give you guys a few minutes, come on in."
He pulled down a set of retractable stairs and moved out of the way for us to enter. River gave a nod of thanks as we walked in.
"Woah," I couldn't help but whisper. The whole inside screams wealthy, from leather off-white seats, to the marbled wooden table.
"Come sit," River said as he sat down. I sat next to him, and let me tell you, these seats feel like clouds. I can get used to this.
"Hey River, what does that door lead to?" Behind us is a wooden door that blends in perfectly with the wall. I almost didn't notice it.
"That's where the bedroom and bathroom are," he replied.
There's a whole bedroom in here? I can't imagine what it would be like to sleep in an actual bed thousands of feet in the air.
"Oh Cove, I can't wait until you fly with me. You'll love it. The view, the food, the privacy."
"I can't wait either. I don't think I'd ever be able to fly on a normal plane again."
"You won't need to."
I hummed and broke eye contact, opting to instead look through the large window.
For some reason, I really like airports. They feel safe and relaxing, except for when it's 3 am and you're switching flights for the hundredth time.
"Cove," River called a few minutes later, breaking me out of my small trance.
"It's almost time for us to take off. We already delayed 20 minutes, I don't want to keep my Dad waiting any longer."
I looked at him sadly and whispered, "oh okay."
His eyes softened and he held his arms out, indicating that he want me to go between them. I instantly stood up, standing in front of him as I put my hands on his shoulders.
"I will miss you so much baby."
"I'll miss you too."
He wiped the tears threatening to fall from my eyes before leaning his forehead against mine.
"I'll be back before you know it, okay?"
"Okay, promise?"
"I promise. I love you."
"I love you more."
He pulled me closer by my hips and brushed his lips against mine. I took the initiative to connect out lips, kissing him as hard as possible.
With every ounce of need in our bodies, we kissed. His hands dug into my sides and mine found their way to his hair, holding on to the ends of it.
"I love you Cove," he repeated.
"I love you River, so much."
We stood pressed together for a few more moments before I finally pulled away. As I turned to leave, River stopped me by grabbing my hand.
Turning back in his direction, I gave him a questioning look.
"I'll call you as soon as we land, okay?"
"Okay," I replied. He nodded, and before I could change my mind, I exited the jet.
This time he didn't stop me. As soon as my feet hit the pavement, some guy in a black tux approached me and instructed me to follow him.
I looked behind me for River's approval, but the door is already shut. I'm just gonna trust this man because he looks very fancy. Plus, River did tell the pilot to have someone take me to a taxi.
The walk through the airport was honestly a blur. I simply kept my head down and followed the fancy man's shoes.
We soon arrived at the taxi pickup zone. Fancy man waited with me until a special blue taxi pulled up. Intend of white stripes, it has white circles along the side. This is probably reserved for very important people because I've never seen one before.
Fancy man held the door open and said a few words to the driver as I got in. I thanked him and him nodded before leaving.
"Where to Miss Smith?" The driver asked. Miss Smith? That must be River's doings.
I bit back a giggle and told him River's address so I can get my car. The ride lasted a little over 20 minutes, I spent the whole time on my phone since the driver doesn't seem very chatty.
He parked in the driveway and I got out. As I started to walk away, I realized something. I didn't pay him and I don't have any money on me.
"Do you take pay-" I immediately turned back around to ask if he takes any cash apps, but he's long gone. Okay then.
"Hey Cove," Azzy greeted as I walked inside.
"Hey Azzy, where's Bubbles?"
"Right here." She lifted a blanket next to her, revealing Boo-Boo laying on her bed.
"Hi Bubbles!" I greeted. She sat up and wagged her tail in excitement, jumping out of her bed and running to me.
I sat down and she climbed in my lap, draping her small body across my legs and head on my stomach.
"I already miss him," I whispered after a few moments.
Azzy looked at me with pity. "It'll be okay. He just has to do some things with her father, he'll be back in no time."
All I can do is hope that this next week goes by quickly.
River's POV
The flight lasted 13 hours. I spent most of the time daydreaming about Cove and watching the time tick by slowly, dreading my arrival.
Even though we took off at 6:45 am, we got to Italy at 4am the next day due to the 8 hour time difference.
As soon as I stepped off the plane, a guy came to take my luggage. Ah, my Dad must already be here.
"Took you long enough."
Oh and there it is. I turned in his direction and gave him a blank look before nodding.
Rule number one, never show emotion in front of other people.
He motioned me over and I silently followed him to the car, getting in the back. When we're in Italy, we always get driven around in a black SUV. I don't really know why but it makes me feel important.
Dad got in next and we waited for everyone else to get in their cars before talking. Whenever we drive, at least 4 other cars packed full of his men follow behind us.
"Good to see you son," Dad finally spoke after a while of silence.
"You too, it's been a while." As much as I hate to admit, it is hard to go months and months without seeing my parents. Last time we saw each other together was during summer.
"Yes, you've grown quite a bit. I'm sure your mother will be very happy to see you, she's really been missing you."
I simply nodded, not knowing what to say. I've missed my mom too, a lot.
Dad continued to talk the rest of the ride, informing me how business has been going and updating me about what I missed.
I swear this guy never gets tired. It's 4 in the morning and he has the energy of a toddler.
When the car finally stopped, both of our faces went back to being blank. It took a look of practice mastering how to switch between the 2, but I eventually got it.
It's hard to almost always hide how you're feeling, no matter what happens I have to keep a blank face. But this is how I was raised, this is my life.
As I exited the car, I realized that we're not at our house. I don't recognize this place, it's small and only has 2 stories.
"We're staying at a safe house for tonight. We need to make sure whoever saw your arrival doesn't follow us home," Dad informed as we got inside.
Oh that makes sense, I'm probably be seen as a target. The mafia's leader son, who wouldn't try to kidnap me? Well, obviously normal people wouldn't, but besides that.
"Okay then, night."
I went upstairs and found one of the doors open. Walking in, I instantly spotted my suitcase on the bed. I guess this is where I'll be staying.
I let out a deep sigh and sat down. Maybe I should call Cove, it's only like 9 pm back in America.
My phone didn't even ring a full time before she picked up.
"River!" She yelled.
"Cove," I laughed at her enthusiasm.
"I've been waiting all day mister. All day to talk to you."
"I'm sorry, I just got home. The flight lasted forever."
"Even in your fancy jet?"
"Even in my fancy jet. Fancy jets don't make time go by any quicker, baby."
"I know, I just thought that you would at least be entertained and time would go by quicker. Anyways, Bubbles was looking for you all day. I was at your house with Azzy up until a few hours ago. She helped distract me while I waited for you to land."
"Oh okay," I simply replied.
"Mhm, Boo-Boo kept looking around for you. It took her almost 2 hours to finally give up, and when she did, she laid on the floor and pouted."
"Awe, do you think she'll be mad at me when I come back?"
"Yeah probably. You'll really have to make it up to her. She's probably gonna love Azzy more by the time you're back."
"Oh no. At least make her love you the most, she can't love Azzy more than she loves us."
"You're right. I'll go over tomorrow and spoil her with treats. Then I'll take her on a long walk and carry her back when she gets tired. She'll fall in love with me."
"Yes she will. Okay, I have to go now baby. It's 4 am in Italy. I'll talk to you later though, okay?"
"Okay, goodnight River."
"Goodnight."
She hung up and I sighed. Is it bad that I already miss her?
After taking a shower and changing, I laid down on my back. I'm probably not gonna get any sleep.
1 hour later..
Update, I didn't sleep at all. At 6 o'clock sharp, I put on a shirt and headed downstairs. My Dad always starts his day at 5 am, but since I didn't get here until a bit after 4, I'm assuming he'll give me a grace period.
"Took you long enough. C'mon, we're leaving. Take this."
He handed me a gun and I shoved it in my pocket. I've been here for 2 hours and I'm already getting handed firearms, great.
Time flew by and we somehow ended up at a warehouse. The only thing Dad said on the way here is to be prepared. Very helpful.
We got out of the car and walked to the entrance, followed by at least 40 armed men.
"We're gonna raid these guys, they stole a lot of money from me. I want them all either dead or unconscious, am I understood?" Dad said.
'Yes sir,' they said in unison while I stayed quiet. It's too early for this sh*t.
He then knocked firmly 3 times. It was quiet for a few moments before there was some shuffling and grunts coming from the other side.
The door half opened and a guy in his late 40's popped his head out. "Can I help-"
Before he could even finish, Dad shoved the door open and we rushed inside. The sound of gunshots rang throughout the building and I ducked my head.
Running down a hallway, I opened the first door to the right.
"What the hell man!" Yelled some guy laying on the bed, pulling a blanket to cover his body.
I rolled my eyes and blindly shot, somehow hitting him in the chest. Oops. Oh well, I guess we can't all live.
A high pitched scream filled my ears, and that's when I noticed a girl laying next to him.
I just had to walk in on 2 people having sex, great.
"You have 3 seconds to put your hands behind you head and kneel on the ground."
Her eyes widened and she instantly did as I said. Keeping a blank face, I walked over and leaned down to her height.
"Do you have anything to do with this?" I asked.
"No sir, n-not at all. I don't even know these people. I'm just a one night stand, I swear!"
I stared at her for a few more moments before sighing and hitting the back of her head with my gun, knocking her out cold. I'll leave someone else to decide her fate.
Moving on to the next room, I opened the door and crossed my fingers that no one's having sex in here.
Nope, luckily this room is empty. I moved on down the hall and opened final door.
At first, it seemed as though no one is in here. That's until I heard movement behind me. Quickly whipping my head around, I shot the guy directly in the temple before he had the chance to attack. That's was close, I need to be more careful.
Luckily, that's the last door so I'm done with this section. Usually you're supposed to yell clear when you took care of everyone in the area or it's empty, but I'm too lazy to do all that.
As I went back to the main area, my arm was suddenly yanked. Someone pulled me into a small room and shut the door behind us.
"What-" I started, but was cut off by the light turning on, revealing another guy pointing a gun at my head.
"Not another word. You're outnumbered, so it's best you do what we say," the guy gripping my wrist said.
I blinked slowly before groaning and yanking my wrist out of his hand.
"First off, don't f*cking touch me. It's too early for this sh*t so I'll give you guys a decision, either you both lay flat on the ground, or your buddy over there can end up with a bullet in his head. Your choice."
"What? No, here's what we're going to do. You're going to be quiet and sit the f*ck down, or we'll make you."
Again, I looked at him blankly. Is he for real? Make me? How is he gonna make me?
Without a second thought, I shot the guy with the gun right between his eyes.
"Guess we have to do this the hard way," I grumbled before swinging my hand back and hitting the guy behind me on his forehead with my gun.
He cried out in pain and fell to his knees. I could keep him alive, or I can kill him. F*ck it, 4 for 4.
After kicking him in the ribs, I shot his arm, stomach, knee, then finally his chest. That was fun, I almost forgot the rush killing gives me.
Oh gosh Cove would hate this. That was so unnecessary, I'm breaking my promise to her.
My mind was so distracted from thoughts of Cove as I walked out of the room, that I didn't notice someone coming up behind me until it was too late.
My shoulder stung, indicating that I was shot. I turned around with fury in my eyes and reached for my gun, but by that time, someone else already got to him.
"River," Dad scolded. Of course he just had to see that. Can my luck get any worse today?
"You always have to be paying attention. What's got you so distracted? He was so obviously there but you didn't react until he already got you."
"Nothing Dad, I just wasn't ready for him," I lied.
"Whatever, we'll talk about this later. Go get patched up, the medic is outside. You can have the afternoon off, but be ready by 10 pm tonight, all right?"
"Okay."
I went out to the medic and got the bullet taken out. I'm not gonna lie and say it didn't hurt, it did, especially when he stitched up the wound.
As sick as it makes me sound though, I've grown to like the pain. Pain isn't bad, it's just a sign that you messed up and have to do better next time. I'll do better next time, much better I promise.
