Cove's outfit above (without the purse)
Cove's POV
I woke up pressed up against something. I shifted and tried to move away from whatever I am pressed against, but two strong arms stopped me. That's when I realized that the "thing" is River.
I turned to face him and realized that he's still asleep. He looks so cute when he's sleeping! His mouth is slightly agape and he's making soft snoring noises that are almost impossible to hear, but they're still there.
My staring session was interrupted by a loud knock coming from downstairs. I froze and listened carefully, 10 seconds later I heard it again.
Something about it doesn't feel right, so I softly shook River to wake him up.
"River," I called. Nothing.
"River!" I called a little more frantically, he moved a little but still nothing.
"RIVER!" I practically yelled, and he woke right up. He looked around the room for danger before meeting my eyes and giving me a questioning look. I opened my mouth to answer, but I was cut off by more knocking.
"There's someone here!" I whisper-yelled, even though it's pretty obvious by now.
"Okay Cove, stay here baby I'll go check it out," he replied, and stood up. He quickly slipped on a shirt and left the room, closing the door on his way out. I waited a minute or two in complete silence, then tip-toed to the door and pressed my ear against it.
At first I didn't hear anything, but after a few seconds I heard hushed whispers. There were two voices, one was River's, and the other's I didn't recognize. Sadly, I couldn't make out anything that they were saying.
A couple minutes passed, then I heard the door shut and footsteps coming towards River's room. I ran to his bed and sat down just mere seconds before the door opened and a frustrated looking River came in.
River stood at his door for a couple of seconds, then took a deep breath and turned to me. His once frustrated face was replaced with a happier one as he came towards me with a grin on a face.
"Do you want to help me make breakfast?" He asked while pulling me off his bed.
"Yes!" I cheered and did a little twirl. If you can't tell, I love cooking.
River chuckled and signaled for me to follow him. He lead me downstairs and to the kitchen.
"What should we make?" He asked. I put my finger on my chin and thought for a second.
"Ooo I got it, pancakes!" I exclaimed. He chuckled and got two pans out from one of cabinets under the stove.
20 minutes later we finished cooking and we each had a plate of pancakes in front of us. I have 4 pancakes, while have River has 5.
"Do you like it?" I asked once he took a bite. I made him use one of my special recipes with chocolate chips and strawberries in it. Luckily he had all of the ingredients.
He chewed and made a thinking face, then smiled and nodded. I let out a sigh of relief, he had me a little worried there.
We ate the rest of our breakfast in silence and somehow River managed to finish before me, even though he had more than me.
After I finished, he took both of our plates to the sink as well as the silverware and pans that we used to cook. Then he took my hand and lead me back to his room upstairs.
I sat on his bed and looked at him curiously. He didn't lay next to me, instead he walked in front of the bed and looked at me.
"Cove baby, I need you to listen to me," he said in a soft yet stern voice.
I nodded and he sighed.
"I'm going to take you somewhere with me, but you can't leave my side no matter what. It's dangerous there, I don't want you to get hurt."
"Promise me you won't wander off?" He asked.
"Yes sir!" I responded.
River's POV
This morning Cove woke me up and told me that someone was downstairs. I was glad that she woke me up first instead of answering the door herself, who knows who it could be!
When I got down and opened the door, Andrew was there. He told me that I needed to come to one of our layouts ASAP.
The thing is, I have to bring Cove. I still haven't figured out how Hector's group found her address, and until I do that I can't risk leaving her home alone.
The layout has a lot of creepy desperate men hanging around. Of course if Cove stays with me everything will be fine, but I can't guaranty that if she wonders off.
I have yet to claim her publicly, and until then anyone can and will try to take her whether she likes it or not. But I won't let that happen, not on my watch.
After eating breakfast and explaining to Cove that she can't leave my side, we both got dressed and ready to go out.
Cove put on a simple white t-shirt and light denim jeans. She also put her hair up with a bandanna.
I put on some black jeans and a black hoodie over a plain black t-shirt. I like black.
When Cove wasn't looking, I also put my gun in my waistband and grabbed 2 packs of cigarettes. Like I said before, I smoke a lot.
After that we walked to my car and got in. The ride there was silent with Cove texting someone most of the time and me focused on driving.
Once we got there, I stopped Cove from getting out.
"Remember what I said, stay with me at all times," I said.
"Okay I will," she replied, and I nodded. I hope she will keep her promise.
I then got out of the car and helped Cove out. I took her hand in mine, and she laced our fingers together making me smile. This girl is really something else.
We walked up to the gate, and I unlocked it with a single shake. Someone really needs to fix the lock. I walked in with Cove close behind and we walked through the lawn with a bunch of guys sitting around smoking and drinking.
We walked right up to the door and I paused for a second to open it. When I paused I had to let go of Cove's hand super quickly, but luckily that went without incident.
I finally opened the door and re-attached our fingers before walking in. The cold air hit me as soon as we entered, and I could feel Cove shiver next to me.
It's okay, we'll be in and out.
Or so I thought.
Cove's POV
River lead me inside and I immediately shivered. It's like Antarctica in here! I didn't even think about bringing a jacket with me since it's like 80 degrees outside. I guess I'm going to freeze. Goodbye world! Goodbye friends. Goodb-
"C'mon Cove," River said and he started pulling me towards a hallway. How dare he interrupt my goodbyes!!
River lead me all the way to the end of the hallway and into a brown door with chipped paint. The whole house seemed to be falling apart, but who am I to complain?
When we entered the room, I felt a bunch of eyes on me. I looked around and saw about 15-20 guys a seated in a circle.
River took us to some empty seats and and sat down with me next to him. I looked around and noticed that there is one person in particular who's staring at me.
He looks old, probably in his mid 30's to early 40's. He's balding and has a grey scruffy beard. He also has a creepy grin and a weird look in his eyes that is making me super uncomfortable.
River noticed that I am uncomfortable and followed my gaze to the guy. He gave the guy a glare that even made me squirm a little, then he wrapped and arm around me.
Thankfully the guy stopped staring after River's look, but I can still feel him glance at me every once in a while.
Everyone started to talk again after that and River started talking to the guy next to him. I soon learned that his name is Ryan, and the are talking about some guy named Isaac. By the sound of it, they don't seem to happy with him.
All of a sudden the door slammed open and a not so happy looking guy came in followed by 3 other guys.
The first guy has brown hair and blue eyes while the guys following him all have black hair and green eyes. They all are very muscular, especially the guy with brown hair.
"Alright everyone, settle down," he said and took a seat near River and I.
"As you all know, I've called this meeting to talk about Isaac. He's done some very, very bad things," the guy continued, irritation becoming more and more clear in his voice as he went on.
"Yesterday night we discovered that he has a deal with Ernie Mendez. He's been leaking a bunch of our information, therefore we can't rely on anything we've said in the past."
All hell broke loose. I don't know what they're talking about, but it must be bad since there are literally people breaking chairs. I looked and River and he's just watching it all unfold like it's normal.
"Alright, alright. I know it's bad, but we need to stay calm and come up with a plan. I'll let boss take over from here," the guy said, and with that, he left the room.
Everyone calmed down and sat back down, some people now on the floor since they broke their chairs. They all turned to look at River. Wait, is River their boss?
On cue, River started talking. "Like Andrew said, we can't use any of our current information. We need a new everything, new plans, new delivery spots, new hideouts, new stashes. Everything. The only people that we can trust are in this very room. Don't tell anyone else anything," he said.
"I want you to start planning out all the things I talked about. I want everything done by next Friday."
Everyone nodded, and there were a couple of yes sirs. River seemed satisfied with their answers, and with that he took my hand and left the room with me right behind him.
He started walking to the front door, but just as we were about to reach it someone stopped us and started to talk to River. I'm interested in listening to their conversation, so instead I started to look around the house.
There are people everywhere. Some are talking, some drinking, some smoking. Don't they know that smoking is bad for them!
The opening of a door caused me to shift my attention to the door we were just in. Everyone that was in the room pilled out with their best poker faces on. Most of them went to the living room/ kitchen area, but one person didn't. It's gross guy that was staring at me.
Instead of going with everyone else, he came towards us. He is looking at me with the same weird look in his eyes, making me look away and instinctively scoot closer to River.
River didn't seem to notice though, and he kept talking to whoever he was talking to. All of a sudden, I was ripped from River's grasp and dragged in another direction.
I let out a cry, and River looked at us with anger, no fury in his eyes. I tried to reach for him, but it was too late and I was suddenly in a room with the door closed.
The balding guy from the other room was staring at me with a creepy grin. I looked around a way to escape, but his back is against the only door and there are no windows in here. I'm trapped.
He started pulling me towards him, and I tried with all of my might to get out of grasp, but he's too strong.
"C'mon baby, let's have some fun," he whispered "seductively." I violently shook my head no, but he ignored me.
Once I was right in front of him, he started to lean forward and grabbed my stomach. His hands started trailing upward, but before he could reached my balloons (that's what I call them), the door broke down and River stormed in.
The amount of anger in his eyes is indescribable. He yanked me away from the gross guy and pulled me behind him. The gross guy looked scared at the look on River's face.
"What the hell were you doing!" River yelled and kicked the guy to the floor.
"I-I thought she was one of your toys," he stuttered our. His answer infuriated River, and before I could say a word, River was on top of him throwing punch after punch.
I was froze in place, not knowing what to do. Do I stop him? Do I got get someone? No, I can't. River said not to leave his side.
I don't know what to do because I've never seen someone beat someone else up, and honestly it's kinda scary.
Finally after like 3 minutes River got off. I noticed that the guy is unconscious and bruised all over, and though I don't condone violence, I'm glad.
River came towards me looking less angry and more concerned.
"Baby are you okay?" He asked softly, and I nodded running to him. I couldn't keep the tears in anymore, and I started crying in his arms. That man was going to hurt me, but not in a murder kind of way.
"Baby, did he touch you?" River asked. I shook my head and said "you got here just in time, he only touched my stomach."
"Thank gosh," River muttered, and he picked me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist, and he carried me out to his car.
When we got in his car, he sat down with me straddling his lap. I cried in his shirt for a few minutes, and he whispered sweet-nothings to me while rubbing my back.
When I was finally able to pull back, I looked in River's eyes. They are once again angry.
"I should have never brought you with me, I put you in too much danger, and look what happened," he said.
"It's okay River, please don't blame yourself," I answered, and he smiled, then pulled me into another tight hug.
River's POV
I put my baby in danger, and now she's hurt. Everyone's going to pay for this. I think they need a reminder never to cross me. Too many people have been openly betraying me. By the end of things, they'll know she's mine and messing with her is messing with me. I don't know what I'm going to do, but all I know is that these next few weeks will be amazing for my Covie, but Hell for my gang.
