The subordinates froze. Just as they were about to react, Alex slapped Pete across the face.
With an odd cracking sound, his head did a 180-degree turn.
âWhen I said I could kill you, it wasnât a threat. I was merely informing you!â
At the time, Pete wasnât dead yet. He was still standing and sensing his surroundings. He saw his back
from this extremely odd angle and heard what Alex said.
He finally realized, âThis bastard actually killed me! But, how dare he?â
Those were his final thoughts before falling to the ground flat on his face.
When Peteâs subordinates saw this, they were stunned. Icy chills ran down their spines.
âM⦠Murder!â
âYou⦠How dare you murder someone in broad daylight?! Do you even know who he is? Youâre in so
much trouble!â
Alex said coldly, âGo ahead and call for whoever supports him. Iâll be waiting here. Now get lost!â
The two immediately scooted off, still panicking. They went to make a call.
Cheryl was worried. âAlex, sure, this guy was hateful and deceitful, but you didnât have to kill him, did
you? His father possesses a lot of power in Long Beach. Doesnât this mean that we provoked them?â
Alex said, âDonât worry, only others would have to worry if they have provoked me! And Cherry, you
look thinner now. Have you been tiring yourself out lately? Just look at you. Your eyes are kind of red.
How many all-nighters have you pulled, hmm?â
âThree⦠No, two⦠Alright, maybe two and a half. Itâs okay. I can handle this. Itâs mostly because of the
few poisoning cases around Long Beach lately. The patients have peculiar symptoms too. Iâm highly
suspecting that itâs a contagious disease, but I couldnât seem to reconstruct how itâs transmitted. Itâs just
really weird.â
Alex said, âIt is quite weird that both you and Guilherme couldnât confirm this even after working
together.â
After that, Alex inserted a flow of his golden core Chi into Cherylâs body. After it entered her veins, she
felt as if all her fatigue had vanished into thin air.
With her newly regained energy, she turned to Alex. âYour medical skills are better than mine, so letâs
go check the poison out! If we canât find a solution soon, Iâm worried that more people will get
poisoned.â
âOkay!â Alex agreed happily.
He knew that Jade wouldnât succumb to any life-threatening emergencies since she took the limit-
breaking pill.
Alex followed Cheryl into the laboratory. She suddenly remembered and asked, âWhy did you come
find me at this hour?â
Alex replied, âI have a very tricky case on my plate too. I wanted you to help diagnose her. But I didnât
expect a man to have picked up the call. He even said that heâs your boyfriend and was sleeping with
you. So I came here as soon as I could.â
Cheryl was shocked and finally remembered. âI left my phone outside. â
Alex handed her a phone.
âI brought it for you.â
Cheryl grinned cheekily as she took it. âSo what youâre saying is, you only came here because you
were jealous? Then should I thank Pete? Otherwise, I wouldâve been sent to the cold bench and cease
to exist in your heart. Only huh?â
