Maximilia was pointing at one of the streets within the city. It seemed slightly different compared to the
rest of the city. The grocer she mentioned was actually⦠Human!
Apart from them, there were actually other people within this kingdom. However, these people werenât
as lucky to be walking around freely. They were being tied up by a group of monsters, drenched in
blood, and being sold as food on the streets
âCome, take a look! Fresh human meat! We have live humans too! Rare quality flesh! Does anyone
want some?â
âOne dollar for five hundred grams! Just one dollar for five hundred grams! You wonât regret spending
here! Weâre honest sellersâ¦â
The voice came from that very street, shocking Paul and Maximilia to the core.

The one yelling was not human. It had a sharp mouth and the cheeks of a monkey, along with a whole
body of fur. Despite that, he was wearing clothes. Upon a closer inspection, they realized that this guy
was actually a beast demon, a weasel.
There seemed to be a lot of such demons walking around the street. They looked very weird. Other
beasts include rats, giant cockroaches, snake demons, centipede demons, and many others.
The flourishing Kroraina Kingdom was no longer ruled by humans now. It had become a beautiful home
for these low leveled beings. Paulâs eyes widened, seemingly intrigued.

Suddenly, Maximilia grabbed him and dashed towards the side, hiding behind the walls. After putting in
some thought, she still felt unsafe, so she leaped over the wall with Paulâs arm still in her grasp. Behind
the wall was a house, so the two immediately hid inside.
Paul
Alex
âMaximiliaâ¦â
Just when Paul was about to speak, the woman covered his mouth.

A few seconds later, Paul heard something. There were heavy footsteps coming from their previous
hiding spot. Then came two deep voicesâ¦
Paul
Alex
âHow odd. I thought I saw some humans just now. Where did they go?â
âHaha, you must be craving human flesh too much. Youâre hallucinating! Weâve already captured all the
humans who came from the death door. Why would there be more people?â
âYou donât know that. They mightâve come from the life door!â
âLife door? Youâre wrong. The life door in this place is the true door of death. Do you really think itâll be
that easy to break that strategistâs formation?â
âOkay, letâs go now. Itâs rare to ever see humans here, so weâre having a feast today!â
Paul and Maximilia were appalled to hear this. These people were the ones who have walked through
deathâs door. Yet they were currently being sold as poultry. This was absolutely mind-blowing, as the
roles had been switched.
Paul
Alex
âShould we save them?â Paul asked.
Paul
Alex
âIâd like to. Some of them are even my old clients. I really wouldnât want to watch them get eaten by
those beasts⦠But thereâs just too many, and we wouldnât be able to win this fight,â Maximilia replied
truthfully.
Paul was a weak scholar now, and he couldnât possibly be of any help.
Paul
Alex
However, he didnât forget his goal in this journey. Joe had to look for the eggs of a golden phoenix
scorpion.

The street was rather lively at the time. Not only were there hawkers promoting their stock, but people
were dancing and singing. As the sun set and the moon rose, the place gave off the vibe of a night
market. When Paul looked at the sky again, he noticed just how miraculous it looked. Despite being
underneath a desert, the fake sun and moon were uncannily similar to the real ones.
Paul
Alex
Now, the sun with Golden Crow energy had disappeared into the horizons, replaced by a yellow-orange
moon. It was far bigger and brighter than the actual moon as well.
Maximilia then pointed to a row of buildings. âLetâs head to the top!â
The two demons that walked over had already left, so she hugged Paul by the waist and used Feather
Walk, leaping up to the air in the dark night. From above, they were able to look at the street better. It
was quite crowded, with several stalls selling every single imaginable thing.
Paul
Alex
Paul couldnât help but sigh. The citizens of this kingdom had disappeared entirely, and demons had
turned it into their own home, opening a market and imitating humans.
