Chapter 22: Ding Ding! Another Sweet Surprise

A bell rang out as the clear windowed door opened, allowing two men to enter the cafe.

The cafe wasn't all that busy today, which was a relief for the both of them.

"I'll order." Vox said as he pointed to the casher area with a bit of a smile. Shoto nodded and agreed before giving his own order to the demon whilst walking to a nearby table for the two.

The small diner was popular for its refreshing feel whenever entering and Shoto could whole heartedly agree because he felt like a wave of relief suddenly washed over his shoulders once coming in.

The way that the noshery used plants as an advantage point and scattered them all around the place, making it all pleasing to look at and giving a comforting cozy feeling. If that's what they wanted to achieve then their hardwork played in their favor.

He could feel the cool chilly breeze of the light airconditioning throughout the whole atmosphere of the room, Shoto could've sworn smelling a hint of mint and green tea floating around the place. A faint yet impactful scent for sure.

He eyed the scenery, enjoying every little bit of it, whether that be the placements of certain decor or the background music being played. He absolutely adored the whole mood and vibe of it and definitely should ask Vox if he had anymore cafe recommendations.

Speaking about the fellow demon, he couldn't help but notice that his own eyes would gaze upon his boss every now and again. No matter how much he attempted to look anywhere else, he always wandered back to the tall male who was currently ordering their drinks.

Chuckling at the thought of how shocked the casher would probably be of how low and smooth his voice was or how he noticed that Vox used his hands and arms a lot whenever explaining something. He found it funny seeing that the other was trying to fight every urge to use his arms to elaborate further when he talked.

Shoto loved seeing him struggle.

Vox finally went back as he slowly approached Shoto's table.

The demon slayer had a hand supporting the weight of his left cheek as it puffed up because of it, almost making it seem like Shoto was pouting at the other as he walked back.

His legs dangled on the slightly higher chair as he watched his boss finally take a chair and sit infront of him. A groan escaped the man's lips as he sat down. He was probably all tired and shit so every right for him to sound so verbally exhausted.

"They said our order will arrive shortly."

Shoto hummed in response. Even if he was tired, he still made an effort to be nice and take care of Shoto.

"What did you order by the way?" He questioned. He remembered he ordered matcha green tea because it was the only one he knew didn't taste all that shit. Everything else on the menu seemed and looked far too complicated for Shoto to comprehend.

Vox hummed, almost sounding like a purr from how low his voice rang out. "I'm a basic man, Shoto. I got black coffee." He answered back.

"Black? That's so bitter, how can you even digest that?" The slayer asked in disbelief but he was half expecting it. Vox did look and sound like a guy to enjoy a warm black coffee as he sat on a rocking chair, seated infront or beside a fireplace.

He was practically the definition of dark academia but add a hint of red. Or maybe he was just emo but more formal? Whatever, Shoto couldn't bother thinking what the fuck Vox was at this point.

But all Shoto knew was that he could never muster up the courage nor guts to down a whole cup worth of black bitter coffee. Caffeine already affects him a bunch so maybe he'll pass on drinking something so harsh tasting.

"Is it really all that bitter to you, my boy? I believe black coffee is just the perfect thing to drink to start off a cold morning, though it is the afternoon now but my point still stands." Vox spoke ever so elegantly. Man, Shoto swears that Vox could talk about the most dumbest or boring shit ever and Shoto would still listen to him with open ears.

His voice makes something in him so captivated and interested in the heat of such a moment. The demon would make such a good teacher, wouldn't he? He'd get talked a lot too by the students.

Shoto snaps back into verisimilitude before replying. "I can't handle caffeine well so that's probably another reason why I don't drink much coffee." He admitted, the back of his hand still supporting the weight of his face and cheek while he spoke.

"My, oh my. If you can't handle the caffeine in black coffee then I can't imagine you drinking the most caffeinated drink of all." Vox returned, a fond chuckle escaping his smooth pale lips.

"What's the most caffeinated drink anyways?" The indigo eyed boy ask with full curiousity. Like a dog waiting for a treat from their owner.

A few seconds of silence was brought upon the two. The demon was probably trying to remember the name of the drink.

The quietness was later filled once Vox finally remembered the beverage. "Oh yes! Black Label by Devil Mountain, I think! It's just a plain random information I came across and weirdly engraved in the back of my mind." He responsed with a small smile.

"Wow, you really know your coffee facts huh." Shoto joked.

After a short while, they finally received their orders. Shoto got green matcha tea while Vox got black coffee as he answered minutes ago to Shoto.

They also were supplied with breadsticks and some sweets like croissants and other pastry dishes.

A distant thank you was given since the waiter was already behind the counter and room so not much gratitude could be shown but the caterer hopefully notices.

A hum of excitement filled the air when Vox looked over to see the slayer contently munching on the chocolate filled bread. "Enjoying yourself?" He teased and laughed even more when Shoto gave a deadpan expression, his cheeks still full from the bread.

"Duh, you should try some." He gestured, his voice still a bit muffled from the fluffy bun still in his mouth.

Vox rolled his eyes before sipping his drink. "You seem to have quite a stomach for the certain pastry, you can have it dear. I'll settle for garlic bread." He smiled, half of his tone being all joking and the other being actually genuine and fond.

"Your loss." He continued stuffing the tasty food in his mouth as Vox chatted about his day, Shoto contently listening and nodding the entire time.
