Estelle POV
Every morning I have the same boring routine with the same meal plan for breakfast with a very eventful day of some sort. Today like every other I sit with my blue bowl and a fork as I scroll through social media waiting for the time to come when I leave for school.
"Morning sis."
My pubescent older step brother walks in more jittery than normal considering he's no morning person, but takes it upon himself to stick his hand in my everyday bowl of fruits. I've been forcibly living with the guy for two years and the only thing that's changed was my looks. I got prettier than before. I think I used to look like a naked mole rat, now I'm kind of a beautiful bunny.
I know why it's changed so drastically, my seventeenth birthday is coming up, and believe it or not I don't care. I know what follows my birthday is responsibility I'm not ready for yet.
"Have I told you, you look great this morning?" I don't respond yet, I'm waiting for his "sike" or something to point out the fat that he's joking or doesn't mean it... but it doesn't come.
"Only a million times." I say sarcastically while rolling my eyes before impaling my strawberry with my work.
Ever since James and Tom moved in, I hated it. James and Tom act more like brothers than father and son, but I had no choice but to get over it. I was a kid with no say. James would always give a slight attempt to appeal to my better nature but lately he's been trying harder than usual and it's kind of suffocating. At first he'd pick on me at school, then when he graduated he was different. I was hoping it was maturity, but that sadly was not it, at all.
"You need a ride to school?" He offers.
"No, but thank you." I waited until I turned my back to him to shake my head lightly, still trying to grasp why he'd offer. I mean I used to ask and even when we went to the same school he wouldn't give me a ride.. like I said he was a jerk.
I arrived at my bus stop, and saw Taylor heading in my direction. "Estelle, you're early." She smiles.
"Yeah, I just wanted out of the house." I mutter.
"Why? If I lived with a face like James I wouldn't leave his side."
"He's my brother, Tay, it's weird when you say something like that."
"Your step brother."
"He's three years older than me."
"And Jessica's our age, dating a sophomore in college."
"I'm also not disgusting." I point out.
"Neither is she."
"Taylor. She met the guy on a dating site, faked her name and age, and just met him in person last week."
"Everyone makes mistakes. What's up with you? Usually I'm the Debby Downer and you're the Perky Princess? Are we in a parallel universe?" She put her hands up as her palm faced the sky and she looked around as if she was ducking airplanes.
"No. But here comes out ride to hell." I point down the street and to the black and yellow bus coming our way.
I felt two arms sweep around my waist and sharp ridges of teeth graze my ear. "Ewww." Taylor groaned. He moved his lips from my cheek to my lips.
"You were late today." I say.
"I know. I was just caught up in last minute homework."
"Didn't we work on that yesterday?" I ask.
"Yes. While you were writing I was drawing," he pulled a folded paper from my back pocket and opened it,"look I drew my wolf."
"Aaron, how many times have I told you. I'm your girlfriend and your tutor. If you keep doing bad you're going to choose between either or, and I don't date guys that stay in the same grade for ten years." The bus doors opened and Taylor was the first to get on. I always sit with her on the bus, it's what friends do even if they do have a boyfriend.
"Is that James?" Taylor pointed at the window and you could see James in his car.
I cover my face, "Yes. It's him."
"You mind if I spend a night tonight, it is a Friday." Taylor smirks.
"You're mom and dad again?" I ask trying to refrain from frowning.
"Yea." She says lowly. "How'd you guess?"
"It's Thursday." I smiled and she just smiled with me.
Taylor's parents are having complications. Her dad told Tom that when things get too rough at their place, if it'll be okay for her to come to my home from time to time. Her parents are mated but they bump heads more than others.
We attend a werewolf school, so nothing's going to be hidden and we wouldn't feel different or have to be someone we're not to keep from suspicion.
I walk into my first period class. "Hi, Mrs.Bradley." I greet.
Every teacher that works here, are mated. My freshman year, Aaron and I were talking in the back of the class, and the teacher went crazy because she didn't have any one to love and felt she'd never find her mate because she's thirty-eight years old. I was baffled, but the school decided that we don't need teachers having mental break downs during class talking about their personal lives. I just feel bad for the sane werewolves that want to teach and can remain professional.
"Good morning Miss West." I sat in my usual seat, second row from the front, third seat from the left.
"Hey, Estelle." Cassey greeted, I only waved to her as I mouthed "hi" and pulled out my history notebook.
I was well liked, except by the alphas daughter. She never liked me, I have alpha blood, but am no future Alpha of any pack, I guess under her flawless skin and pounds of makeup she's somewhat feels threatened by me.
"Hello, Class, today we're going to review kindergarten basics, like Ian Hamilton." Every child knows of Ian Hamilton, he was the first werewolf after Romulus and Remus, if you were not aware of that, you were not a werewolf even if shifted out of your own skin.
Lots of hands shot up and I couldn't believe that she chose Aaron over me. "Aaron." She said nicely.
"What was the question again?" He asked. Everyone slammed their hands in their desks and groaned, as did I.
"Who's Ian Hamilton?" I whisper.
"Oh!" He yelled,"ooh, he sailed the ocean blue in 1492 ... nah I'm just kidding he was the first werewolf."
Everyone gasped as if it was a sudden surprise that he knew something about anything.
"Nice job, Aaron. Now that we've got that, can anyone tell me how he became a werewolf?" She asked. We were all knew the answer but no one wanted to answer. "Mmm. That's what I thought. Well, since I jumped ahead of records everyone will be assigned a pal for a project about how Ian Hamilton became a werewolf, his journey, success, and struggles."
A girl, Maralin, raised her hand. "Um, did you mean partners?" She asked because in her defense there is a difference.
"Oh, no, Miss Cardenfer, I mean pals. I managed to find a few of my successful old students that made a hundred and five on their own for the projects."
"Are they seniors?" Maralin asks.
"Afraid not, they are graduates."
"How old?"
"Age does not matter when it comes to wisdoms and knowledge." She grins and opened the door.
I looked at them as they came in, and I remember their names from when I was a freshman.
Mike, Fernando, Oscar, Becky, Diane, Tommie, Carlos, Josh, Harrey, Steve, Caroline, Justin, and oh my God... James. I slumped down in my chair. How'd James be one of her "wise" students, he doesn't even know is own middle name?
I felt something sharp poke my back and turned around to see Taylor. "Looks like big brother actually has a brain." She whispers.
"The only thing my step-brother uses his brain for is to manipulate girls into getting him free beers and sex." I heard laughter and and a growl among the class, forgetting I was in a room filled with werewolves. My eyes came in contact with Mrs.Bradley and I look down. "Sorry Mrs.Bradley." I mumble.
"Since you believe it's necessary to gossip during class, and disrespected your broth-"
"Step-brother." I corrected.
"Your step-brother, you, Aaron and Taylor will work with him."
"Oh, yay, like I don't spend enough time with him in the same vicinity anyway." I say using a ass load of sarcasm.
The bell rang after she assigned the rest of the class their pals.
"So, where do y'all want to go for lunch?" James ask.
"We can't leave the school without adult super vision." I mutter. Aaron had his arm around my shoulder and Taylor could not blink when she stared at James.
"Uh, I'm a adult."
"With the brain of a four year old, congratulations."
"Give him a break, Estelle." Aaron whispers, he kisses my cheek.
"Okay, fine, let's go to McDonald's." I say.
We talked everything over at lunch, but we also enjoyed ourselves. James dropped us off back at school before heading home.
James POV
The three of them walked into the school and I drove off.
I ended up meeting Erik and Kyle at the bar. I was thinking about what Estelle said, about me only using my brain to trick girls into free beers and sex, that's not true.
"What's on your mind?" Kyle asked.
"Nothing. Can you go get me a beer?" I ask.
"You have two legs that work, get it yourself." He started teasing me by drinking his beer, but boredom gets the best of me and what god would it do me to sit at a bar at one o'clock.
I pulled in the drive way, and I spend a awful lot of time here, the house that Alpha Cole gave to me is awfully lonely and I'm a people person. Its a nice house and I don't want to ruin it with parties or whatever.
"Hey, mom." I greet Chelsy.
"Hey James. How was Mrs.Bradley's class?"
"Terrible. Two years and Estelle still can't stand me. You told me to give her time, but haven't I given her enough?" I ask.
"She's Estelle, just like her father, Erdiss. Stubborn and time means nothing to them. Only the situation that didn't/doesn't go their way." I heard a door slam.
"Thanks mom, nice to know."Chelsy dropped the knife and held her face in her hands as Estelle stomped up the stairs.
"I forgot today was a half day." She groans.
"She's a teenager. Every teenager gives their parents hard times, ask my dad." I laugh.
"No, Estelle's different. A hard time isn't the first word to describe it." Estelle came down the stairs wearing a sports bra and spandex's.
"I'm going for a run, that way you guys can talk about me and won't have to worry about me coming to find out, anytime soon." She slammed the door behind her.
"She's sassy. Kind of a-a brat."
"No, I've none that girl all her life, she has a spark that ignites a fire. Not a campfire though, like a wild fire that reaches further and further, but can't come to end unless someone stops it."
