'You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams'

.

Great explanation

"Hey. Ayat can we talk for a bit?" A boy with caramel brown hair, neatly gelled back approached Ayat. He had a shaven square jaw. A deep voice. A pair of specs which did justice to his personality. His fluid arm moment made his speech as fluent. He had a sweet aspect to him.

The crowd lessened with time, while they stood in the spacious hallway, it had a wooden flooring. Giving it an aesthetic and fancy feel about it.

"Yes. I was just about to leave, good thing you caught me before I left," Ayat smiled. Ali Nadir was her class fellow. The well achiever kind and the well dressed. They exchanged notes occasionally. He sometimes hung out with the girls, but Mirha wasn't really comfortable around him so he kept his distance. Overall he was a nice guy. For Haya and Ayat, he was their male best friend. They all had their backs when they messed up.

"So you know how we have been quite close to each other since a very long time,"

"I am listening Ali, enough with the formalities,"

"Who is this guy after you?" Ali's voice turned urgent and worried.

"What?" Ayat tried to play dumb, but it felt like Ali knew everything, did Mirha and Haya snitch on her? What the hell happened to all girl's pact?

"He says if any guy approaches you, he will kill them, do you know how big this is? Have you told someone in the family, do not tell me you are taking a stalker lightly Ayat, you don't know his intentions with you, he might hurt you really bad, so many bad things happen with girls just because they trust the wrong man," Ali tried to knock some sense into her, and Ayat understood all that but how was she to tell any one what was happening, he scared her, but somehow she knew, in some otherworldly way, he wouldn't hurt her, but Ali wouldn't understand.

"I understand, don't worry, he won't hurt me," Ayat tried to assure him.

"Do you want my help telling your brother about him?" He asked sincerely.

"Arsalan bhai knows him already, he's the captain of his football team, even Haya's brother know him," She explained, wanting Ali to get off her back and for her to make sense of it all herself.

"Do they know he is after you, and threated every guy on the campus to not approach you?"

"I promise I will figure this out,"

"Don't let anything happen okay? And you certainly don't need to be afraid of him,"

.

The ghosts of clouds formed on the horizon, between the setting sun, as Ayat went through her books yet again, she found a certain sort of comfort in her books, her exams were finishing tomorrow and she was done with her revision, all she had to do was sip on her coffee and watch as the moon graciously replaced the sun, sitting cozily in her balcony, her me time.

Suddenly a strange notification popped up on her phone. Unknown. She opened the message trying to figure out what was happening, before she could even open the text a call came instead, Ayat never picked up calls from unknown numbers, but something made her pick it up.

"Who the hell was that man with you?" The thunder came through the receiver, his already heavy voice with the combination of rage was lethal, she felt thankful she wasn't around him.

"Maaz?" She quietly said conforming.

"Answer me," He pressed without acknowledging her. "Ayat, I am going crazy here,"

"Maaz," She spoke again with unchanging tone, whispers of Ali sounding her brain, his behavior was scaring her.

Maaz chuckled ironically, "Fuck it, what part of you belong to me didn't you understand, I hate to hear another man's name leave your mouth, do you understand?"

"Would he be fine if I told you his name?" She asked concerned about the safety of her friend, all the while flashes of his revolver sounding her brain, mild panic became into a sort of full blown panic attack, her hands started to sweat, if he did something to Ali, oh no. No. She couldn't deal with it.

"What did he say?"

"He wasn't saying anything to me, he is just a friend," Ayat tried to reason with him, but his nerves were exploding, he was beyond himself right now with blind rage. "Promise me you won't hurt him, Maaz, you are scaring me, I am shaking right now please, say something,"

"Ok." He spoke giving up, his blood turned ice when he heard that she was shaking. "Ok. Do not panic, I am not going to do anything to him, alright, take a deep breath, Ayat, I need you to take a deep breath, I won't hurt him,"

She listened to him, she breathed, and when the panic subsided, and Ali's insurance was done, fuming rage boiled her head. "How am I supposed to like you when you treat me like a piece of shit you own, you are such a soundless idiot, you bastard, if I see you again, I will gauge out your eyes,"

A sadistic chortle escaped his throat. "I love it when you are feisty, there are a few who can call me names, and what did I tell you about cursing love? I told you my wife cannot curse, didn't I?"

"I am never becoming your wife, not by a long shot, I don't even like you," She spat in anger.

"Keep lying to your self," He spoke with such arrogance that Ayat wanted to throw her phone from the balcony, because, because she didn't know what it was but she felt it somewhere in her bones, she cut the call midway, before he could say anything, she felt a gush of satisfaction, she could cut his call and sleep like a baby, she was underestimating him. he wasn't a man to easily back down, he had made her his living obsession.

He didn't break a single sweat climbing up the balcony of her room, he was built strong and lean, and her room wasn't much higher either, he needed to give her a piece of mind for keeping her balcony open while sleeping, any lunatic could walk in and hurt her while she slept a baby in her bed, some lunatic like himself, he liked when he saw her give in, fear him, or look at him with confused eyes, the only women who had looked at him like there was more in him beyond the spoilt haughty footballer.

He opened the balcony with ease since it wasn't locked, this is exactly what he was talking about, she was clumsy and irresponsible and that will get her killed, the balcony door creaked open, little snores filled the room, and something between the smell of roses spread like a mild fragrance in her room, there was no light except the moonlight from the balcony door, a smile etched on his lips as he sat beside her, brushing a strand of her hair away from her face. She squirmed in the bed when she felt something brush her, she scratched her forehead. she could feel the bed dip, the strange scent of a man and someone's breath on her.

Her eyes darted open, a squeal escaped her mouth, it couldn't make past his palm that had covered her mouth knowing her reaction, he seemed amused looking as her inside filled to the brim with fear.

"Don't shout," Maaz spoke in her ear. Even in that state, she had challenge in her eyes. "I mean it, love, do not shout,"

When he removed his hand, she gasped for air, as it filled her lungs. "What the hell are you doing here!"

She whisper yelled. "You didn't want to talk on phone, so I figured we will talk like this, maybe I will not kill that bastard for approaching you until I keep seeing your face,"

"Wha...What, I cut the call because you vex me," Talking to a wall must have brought more use than this man, who wasn't moving an inch, although her arm were trying to push that steel away, but he wouldn't budge.

"What were you saying?" His voice turned low, almost like a growl. "You don't like me? Is that what?"

"Maaz," She breathed the air she had been hoarding in. "Please, go,"

"Do you know how much contradiction you have little dove? You say you hate me, and then breath my name as if I am your oxygen,"

"I hate you,"

She continued to contradict herself, her fast breaths, her sweaty palms, her eyes that couldn't move away from him, in the dim light he looked like a masterpiece. From behind the way the moonlight lightened him up, the way his brown eyes looked at her, she could swear she hadn't been looked at with so much admiration in her entire life, and then his minty breath and musky scent mingled with his vibratory voice put her rationality to the ditch.

"If this is your hate, fill me to the brim with it," He whispered. She shoved him away, he stumbled but didn't fall, he got all the assurance he needed when he climbed back down her balcony.

She didn't know if she was brave or stupid but either way she'd have to put a great explanation for it and she was still finding it herself.

...
