Chapter 30: Chapter 30

The rest of the week went by in a blur. Victor and I hung out almost every day after school and we really got closer. Taking naps turned out to be our main thing together but I didn't mind because I love sleep and having him wake up beside me was the delicious cherry on top. My friends and I were the first ones to turn in our permission slips for the senior side. Of course, Max had to threaten us on Monday night to get the thing signed and first thing we did Tuesday morning was turn it in.

Victor turned his in on Wednesday with his friends and they were the last to make it. The senior side was completely full and Sara heard the freshman side had only about ten kids while the sophomore side had about fifteen and the juniors had about thirty-seven. Go seniors, I guess. This meant that whatever stuff of the seniors that we couldn't fit on our bus meant we took over the room on the other buses, especially the freshman bus. But I mean there was only ten kids for a whole bus, they don't need all that room.

"Camping! Camping! Camping! Camping!"

"Max, I swear to God, shut up," Sara snapped.

Ah, yes, perfect. Sara was already in a mood. Charlie was sitting next to her on the bus while Max and I shared a seat. Hector sat on the bus next to a friend he had made in one of his classes. They weren't best of friends but were friendly enough to sit next to each other on a three hours bus ride. We were here early because Max always wanted to be first to get a good seat. He had to sit on the second row on the left side of the bus by the window. It couldn't be the first row because the girls sat there since they would want to be off as soon as we get there. Hector sat next to Max and I but on the right side of the bus. No teachers ride with us because they expect the seniors to behave. It's usually the sophomores and juniors that give them a hard time so they always ride with them to calm them down.

"Don't be a grumpy grump, Sara!"

"I will literally kill you. Or how about I give Caden back your backpack? You just got your stuff on Wednesday. Do you really want me to give him your stuff?"

"Fine," he huffed and sat down with a pout.

"That's what I thought," Sara grumbled.

"Speak of the devil and he shall appear," Charlie whispered.

You could hear Victor and his friends even before they reached the bus. They were laughing and Caden playful shoved Victor who was grinning and laughing. They put their stuff in the bus compartment and Caden was the first to get on, smirking at Max, reaching over me and roughly ruffling his hair.

"Sup, Maxie!"

"Go to hell."

"Aw, just for that, this seat looks very comfortable," he said and sat right behind us.

Victor took the seat beside him and the rest of his friends filled up the bus, a couple girls that crushed on Victor sitting beside them on the right side. Caden immediately started kicking the seat and nudging it with his knee. I don't know how Max was going to last but he decided to ignore it and instead put on his earphones and leaned his head against the window. After the last fifteen students arrived we were ready to go and the bus driver began the drive. Caden stopped his bullying after another fifteen minutes thanks to Victor distracting him. Max was grateful and it visibly showed as his shoulders relaxed and he actually fell asleep. We did leave early and I was sure the girls were past out too. I was seconds from falling asleep when my phone vibrated.

From: Victor

One of our nap/cuddling sessions sounds good right about now. Caden is asleep and I think he may be close to drooling.

I had to remind myself to not grin or laugh because it would have seemed weird. I notice Hector glance at me but he still remained in conversation with his friend from class.

To: Victor

That does sound good. Too bad we won't be able to do that for the next three nights.

From: Victor

I might just go crazy. Switch seats with Caden ;)

To: Victor

Max would literally murder me.

"Hey, so this lake, it's safe to swim in right?" Hector suddenly asked me.

"Oh yeah, as long as you don't go in too de- Crap! I forgot to pack an extra shirt for swimming!"

Hector chuckled and shook his head saying, "I have plenty. You can borrow one of mine."

"Thank you," I said with a smile.

A vibration caught my attention and I looked down at my phone to see a new message from Victor.

From: Victor

Careful now, jealous boyfriend right behind you.

I couldn't help the blush that rushed to my cheeks and I slouched in my seat. I heard a chuckle come from the seats behind me and I just knew it was him. Of course it was him, Caden was being sleeping beauty with drool. Hector gave me a glance but decided to let me be and instead fixed himself to sleep. I let out a sigh and fixed myself so my back was against Max's side and I slowly let myself fall asleep.

I was rudely awaken by the bus suddenly stopping. I'm sure more then half of the students went flying forward and I almost fell off. Max had caught me in time but he was also on alert. He had hit his head on the window and Caden also got hurt because he was whining and snapping. The bus driver didn't even apologize but instead kept driving. I was sure he did it on purpose. He probably hates teenagers. At least he wasn't assigned to the sophomores or juniors. He probably would've made them crash. Everyone stayed awake and we got at the camp site within another twenty minutes. Max was quick to get off and stretch his legs. The usual workers happily greeted us and helped everyone get their stuff off. The teachers gathered everyone while the seniors stood to the side with only one teacher.

"Alright, everyone! Our workers will be taking the seniors items up the hill and you guys can go ahead and start heading up. Another worker will lead the way and it's only a twenty minute walk to your private camp site. Enjoy!"

"Seniors! Please don't give Mr. Cortez too much trouble," a freshman teacher pleaded.

We began to head up while some workers were carrying our luggage on golf carts and riding up the hill. It was a nice walk and went by faster than we thought it would take. Sara was whining about hating to walk but Charlie looked at peace and had a big smile as she looked around. Max was excited and kept shaking my shoulders. Hector looked happy too, looking around in wonder and occasionally pointing at a bird or something else. It was adorable. When we got to our camp site Mr. Cortez told us to get our things set up. Charlie had to build the tent because Sara didn't know how. She usually had Max and I do it but Charlie decided to try and figured it out. Max, Hector, and I built our tent next to theirs but we used up a lot of room since our tent is a three room tent. Victor and Caden were next to us and their friends surrounded them. Some friends of their actually tried to change spots with us so they could be closer but Caden told them to get lost which surprised me.

"It's eleven now and the hike starts at 12:30. Go ahead and get ready, change, do whatever you need to do. Just be by my tent at 12:30," Mr. Cortez announced and went into his tent.

"Oh, Charlie! Please keep a look out while I change and then I'll do the same for you," Sara said and went into their tent.

"Like anyone wants to peek in and see," Caden mumbled with a roll of his eyes and went into his tent.

Max, Hector, and I didn't have that problem since we could happily change in our own space. There was a wall that closed off the sides in our tent so it really was like we had rooms. Max decided to take the room on the left, I was in the middle, and Hector was on the right. We were quick to change into shorts and we waited patiently for the girls to finish. When 12:30 rolled around everyone was ready and standing near the teacher's tent. Max and Caden were currently arguing and Sara was trying to flirt with Hector.

"I hope everyone has their hiking buddy. If you don't you have less than two minutes to find one."

"Hector are you sure you don't want to trade partners?"

Hector immediately wrapped an arm around mine to both mine and Sara's surprise but she just grumbled and followed after Charlie.

"Max! Who is your partner?"

"Oh, um, I don't have one Mr. Cortez."

"Caden! Congratulations, you're partners with Max now. Victor, find a new one."

"What?!" Caden and Max yelled at the same time while Victor sighed as many of his friends immediately said they'd be his partner.

"Alright, campers! Let's get going!"
