Michael was bleeding at the forehead and had a cut lip, and it was all probably because of Steven.
âAh⦠So, it was just an accident! After reviewing the surveillance footage, we saw that someone in the local vicinity had been hurting people, and this upset the young man.
âThat was why he grew agitated and injured Mr. Ford who happened to be waiting outside the house,â the police officer explained in an effort to mediate the situation.
âBoth parties are at fault here,â he concluded.
Michael gritted his teeth. âIâm at fault for waiting outside the door?â
âWhat were you doing waiting outside someoneâs house in the middle of the night anyway?
Wouldnât any normal person mistake you for a bad guy for hanging around the area like that?â
The officer then quickly winked at Michael and said quietly, âPlus, why would a sane man like you be so bothered by the acts of a madman?â
Michael scoffed in response.
The police officer then turned to me. âBut you should still pay due compensation.
I looked at Michaelâs pale and injured face under the streetlamp.
His greatest fear was dogs, and the fact that Steven had brought nearly a dozen of them back home, wellâ¦
Michael mustâve undoubtedly been frightened. Heck, his knees might still be secretly shaking.
âSteven did it on purpose,â Michael said as he looked at me. âHeâs liable to go hysterical at any given point.
âLetâs see just how long youâll last by his side. Who knows, he might end up choking you to death in the middle of the night!â
Michael then glanced at the time and saw that it was already 3 am.
âI suggest you come to Ford Group tomorrow to explain yourself,â Michael said. He wanted to see me alone. âIf you donât, Iâll get a lawyer and file an application to force Steven to return to the asylum!â
I furrowed my brows and glared at Michael.
What a huge jackass.
After Michael had gotten what he wanted, he left in his car.
I wasnât sure why Michael insisted on meeting me in person alone, but I knew the reason wouldnât be anything good.
What was he doing waiting for me to show up at Lincoln residence the entire night? Why didnât he stay by his âkind heartedâ sweetheart, Yasmin, at the hospital instead?
Between Michael and Steven, Michael was more of a lunatic to me.
âCome outside!â I called angrily to Steven. He was still hiding behind the door after Michael left.
Steven slowly walked out with his head bowed, looking aggrieved.
âWhat were you doing out here in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?â I yelled at him, all my patience gone.
âThere were bad menâ¦â Steve whispered.
So, he had gone back to make Martinâs men leave because he was worried that they might hurt me..
Zion leaned against the car door and watched as I scolded Steve. Then, he chuckled and said, âI realize that the kid only listens to you. He always looks like heâll tear anyone else who chastises him to shreds.â
I cupped my forehead. âDo you have any idea how dangerous it was for you to go back home alone so late at night?â
Steven glanced at the stray dogs roaming around the dumpsters nearby. âWasnât aloneâ¦â
I was really angry now. âDo dogs count as people?â I exclaimed.
âPeople sometimes canât compare to them,â Stevenâs expression turned darkly, and the atmosphere suddenly grew cold.
But just when I thought that perhaps I saw wrongly, Steven had already resumed his pitiful demeanor.
âI made a mistake⦠Stephie.â
âMade a mistake? How?â
âI donât knowâ¦â
I might get a stroke at this point. âWhy did you beat Michael Ford up?â
âHe deserved it,â Steven said matterâofâfactly.
âAhem. Thatâs enough now. Donât talk about this here in the doorway.â Zion opened his car door.
âGet in. Iâll drop you guys back home.â
I dragged Steven into the car with me, hands trembling in anger.
But then, I thought about how Steven had gone back home right after leaving the hotel, but he didnât kill anyoneâ¦.
Phew.
Just then, Zionâs phone buzzed.
It was a call from Phil. He was keeping watch over Yasmin at the hospital. âZion, we just caught someone who tried to kill Yasmin here at the hospital!â
