âWhere did she go missing?â Steven asked.
Michael rushed forward, trying to grab Steven. However, Steven dodged.
âSay what you need, but donât touch me,â Steven said in annoyance.
Eason scoffed. Then, he pointed at the whiteboard full of clues.
âYasmin went missing around 2:00 pm at IF Plaza. Before she went missing, she was shopping with Michael.â
There was footage from the surveillance camera.
âMichael left earlier for the hospital. Later, he received news that Yasmin had gone missing in the shopping mall. Soon after, Michael called the police.â
Steven watched the surveillance footage and saw how Yasmin disappeared after entering the womenâs washroom. It was as if she had disappeared into thin air. Someone had kidnapped her.
âThere are no secret passages or doorways near the washrooms. The surveillance camera didnât capture anyone suspicious or footage of Yasmin leaving. Weâve interrogated the janitors, but none of them saw Yasmin,â Eason said grimly.
Michael scoffed.
âIs that the best that the police can do?â
âIf youâre so almighty, why did you leave your beau behind at the shopping mall? If you loved her so much, you shouldâve accompanied her shopping and bought her luxury gifts. Jerk.â
F Rachel rolled her eyes. âDonât bother StephaniâStephany anymore. I get nauseous when I see you.â
Michael glared at Rachel. He was about to say something when I stopped him, âMr. Ford, we should focus on locating Yasmin.â
He scoffed, then explained, âWell, Yasmin was helping me pick a gift for you. She encouraged me to pursue you again and suggested buying something youâd likeâ¦â
Frowning, I signaled Michael to stop.
Michael wanted to explain further, but Steven pulled me into his embrace and warned Michael.
âSheâs mine, and weâre married. Who do you think you are to pursue her? How shameless of you.â
Steven said it so seriously that it made Rachel laugh.
I wanted to laugh too, but I was angry and didnât want to acknowledge him.
Steven looked at me woefully. âStephie, weâre legally married. Heâs trying to seduce you, so heâs a bad guy. Heâs immoral.â
Michael clenched his jaw. He was pissed at Steven.
âExcuse me, sir.â
Meanwhile, Eason was going crazy.
âCan you get your mind off dating for a moment? Help me locate Yasmin. If something goes wrong under my watch, Iâm going to have to direct traffic with Zion!â
On the other hand, Zion, who was not on duty, was relaxed. He raised his brows at the statement.
âThe Traffic Enforcement Unit welcomes you.â
Eason ignored Zion.
Steven looked at the surveillance footage again, then said, âShe wonât die. She left on her own.â
âWhat do you mean?â
Eason took a closer look at the footage. He had watched it numerous times.
âPause at 38 minutes 47 seconds,â Steven said.
Eason paused at a specific part of the video, which showed a middleâaged woman with long hair and a hat.
âThis is Yasmin,â said Steven determinedly.
Yasmin had put on a disguise and left of her own accord. That meant she was not kidnapped. The investigation started on the wrong foot.
âThe murderer may not have done anything. This is Yasminâs plan.â
Eason frowned.
âHow do you know thatâs Yasmin?â
âHer fingers. Yasminâs fingers are slender and long, yet sheâs deliberately wearing old, bulky clothes. Also, if you look at the footage before that, there are no records of when this woman entered the washroom.â
Steven had a photographic memory. That was the scary part of being a prodigy.
âArenât you the genius of the investigation squad? You couldnât tell?â Zion provoked Eason.
Eason sulked a little. âI have my specialty in other things, not thisâ¦â
âThatâs enough. Letâs stop taking advantage of police resources. Mr. Ford, your beau had run away on her own,â said Rachel, rolling her eyes.
Michael frowned.
âIs that how you plan to conclude the case? What if she was blackmailed? Where did she find the clothes to change into? Somebody mustâve threatened her to put on those clothes and leave.
âSheâs timid, so she wouldâve complied. Shouldnât you first locate her?â
I looked at Michael with a sneer. Back when I was captured by the killer, he refused to believe that I was dead. He believed that I schemed the entire plan to confuse them.
He even stopped the police from investigating, which eventually led to my death.
Yet now, he firmly believed that Yasmin did not plan everything herself but was threatened instead.
The double standards that he held were baffling.
