Chapter 11: Chapter Nine

From The AshesWords: 31016

After dinner with the the royal family, I retreated to my room with a lot on my mind and I decided to soak my sore muscles in my luxurious bathtub.

As I was pouring some Epsom salts in, I noticed the small purple bag Aunt Maddie had given me before I left. I remembered that she had told me only to pull something out when I needed guidance. I pondered for a moment, before deciding I could really use some of it right now.

I turned off the water to the bath and stripped down before grabbing the bag. I lowered myself into the water, being careful not to get it wet. Once my bottom half was submerged, I pulled it open. I held my breath for a second as I reached my hand in and grasped what felt like a small paper and I pulled it out to examine it. It was a small, yellowing envelope sealed with a dark maroon wax. I carefully opened it and pulled out a note. My eyes began to water as I read it.

My Dearest Indigo,

If you are reading this, it means that I am no longer with you. I have instructed my sister to give you this pack of my belongings when she believes you are ready. It may not be much, but I hope it can offer you some comfort as you navigate through your life.

I want you to know that from the moment I knew of your existence, I have loved you. I will always love you and it brings me great pain to know that I won't be there to see you grow. You are my shining star in the black night and I hope you are always made to feel worthy.

Anyway, enough with the sad stuff. I've decided to write this letter for you to tell you that there are things about yourself that you may not know yet. I cannot divulge all of your secrets here, in case this should ever fall into the wrong hands, but I can tell you that if something feels right, it is. You don't have to question your intuition. On your twentieth birthday you will understand what I mean. You are meant for great things, Indigo. The Moon Goddess has made it so. Please, do not pull away from her guidance. Accept her messages with care, for they will come to you. You and your mate are fated to help re-align the light and dark of this Earth and bring balance once again.

In this envelope, I have left you a small family heirloom. It will help you to control what is to come.

Remember, I am always with you.

Love always,

Mom

I wiped the tears from my eyes and reached back into the envelope to find a small ring in it. It was a simple band of silver with a small gleaming opal in the middle, and two smaller amethysts on either side of it. I looked at the band a little closer and noticed a crescent moon engraved on the inside.

I slipped it on my right ring finger and it was a perfect fit. The moment I did, I felt a surge of power rush through me. I couldn't describe it, but suddenly it seemed like I wasn't so lost anymore. Any worries I had about myself and about being here just faded away. I felt confident, powerful, and sure.

A smile broke out on my face as I tucked the note carefully back into the bag and lowered myself further into the water.

***

The next morning, I was already dressed and waiting at the bottom of the stairs when Valen arrived to collect me for training. He gave me an approving smile before we headed to the same gym from the day before. Today though, instead of being empty, there were about fifteen other wolves. My eyes widened in surprise. This seemed like a lot for just one class. I heard Valen chuckle next to me and I glanced at him.

"They're all trying to size you up. They're debating which one should challenge you first, but since I'm the one leading the class, I get to decide that," he said. I just shrugged and followed him over to the group. Valen clapped his hands twice and everyone quieted down.

"Alright everyone, as you can see we have some fresh meat today. This is Indigo Murray, formerly of the Moonlight pack. She graduated top of her training class just before she came here, but I think we can show her that titles don't matter." My face flushed as he continued.

"First, we'll pair her with our best female warrior. I want you all to watch closely. When they're done sparring, we'll go over what could be changed and done better. Celia," he called and a lean, beautiful she-wolf with chocolate brown hair and piercing green eyes walked forward.

"You'll be sparring first."

She sent a smirk my way before turning back to Valen. "Yes, sir," she practically purred to him.

I rolled my eyes, but felt a pang of jealousy flare in my stomach. Of course she had a thing for him, who wouldn't? She jumped up into the ring and began bouncing on her toes.

"Come on, newbie. I want to get this over with," she called to me. I huffed in annoyance but joined her.

"Alright ladies, the only rules are you can't shift in here and no killing. The first to submit will lose. Fight!"

Just like that, Celia was coming for me. She was sprinting toward me and my mind quickly analyzed her movements to try and pinpoint her first move. Before I could figure it out, she'd landed a punch so hard to my stomach that I flew backward and hit the floor of the mat. I gasped in surprised and laid there for a second, feeling a little dazed.

Damn, she was fast.

"Oh come on, that can't be all you've got newbie. I thought you'd at least put up some sort of a fight," she mocked me. I glared at her and glanced over at Valen to see he was watching me with his signature hard look.

I grunted and got back up. I assumed my defensive position and reminded myself not to underestimate her this time. Valen nodded his head, and she came for me again. This time I was prepared.

I watched as her eyes darted to my left just before she tried to shoot her fist out to clip me under the ribs. I quickly dodged to the side as she missed. She whirled around to face me again, the smirk gone from her lips. She narrowed her eyes and rushed me again, this time darting her eyes to my right. I adjusted my weight on the balls of my feet, but instead of using her fists, she spun around and tried to land a kick to my neck. I quickly reacted and grabbed her ankle with both hands just before she could connect with me. Her eyes widened just a little.

I sent a small smirk her way and jerked her leg back toward her. Hard. I heard her knee cap pop out of place, but I didn't stop.

She dropped her leg and tried to put pressure on it, but nearly fell to the ground. I took my opportunity and kicked the side of the knee I had just injured to get her down. She fell onto her back on the mat. I hurried over and jumped on top of her, sending a fist to her perfect straight nose and heard a satisfying crack.

She screamed and threw me off of her. She stood back up, but wouldn't put any weight on her injured leg. She held her fists up and spit the blood from her face. I saw her glance at Valen, then back at me. I raised my eyebrows at her and she growled before faking a punch to my ribs with her left hand, then connecting her right hand with my jaw.

I hissed in pain as the metallic taste of blood flooded my mouth. At this point, I was seeing red. She wasn't holding anything back, and it seemed like she had a vendetta against me. I snarled at her and lunged, knocking her back onto the mat. I hit her ribs as hard as I could, then sent another fist to the side of her head. She was beginning to get a little dazed, so I took my last opportunity and flipped her around before grabbing her neck and squeezing it in the crook of my elbow.

"Yield!" I shouted at her. She growled but said nothing. I squeezed harder.  I could feel her struggling to breathe.

"Yield!" I demanded again. This time when I yelled, the lights above the mat flickered before popping and burning out. Celia glanced at me in confusion and finally, in a small voice, she said,

"I yield."

I immediately released her and got up, then held a hand out to help her up. She shoved it away and helped herself with the ropes on the side of the ring. I shook my head at her but got down and went to grab a towel. I glanced at Valen and saw he was looking between the lights and me, with confusion on his face.

"Well, I guess we know who our winner is," he said. The room was silent. "Take five," he continued. "We'll resume after a break. Indigo, a word?" I got up and followed him to the office. He whirled on me.

"What the hell was that?!" he shouted. I glared at him.

"What do you mean?" I asked. "You paired me with your top female warrior hoping I'd get my ass kicked, and now you're yelling at me because I won?"

"No, not that! Right before you put her in a hold, your eyes...flickered to a different color. And not the gold of Sienna's. And then the lights blew out. What are you not telling us?" He stared me down with anger all over his features.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," I said truthfully.

"I fought how I always fight. I've only ever had lights do that around me once, when I punched my friend's house. But it was just a coincidence, like what you saw here today."  He grit his teeth and glared at me.

"Fine, but if you're hiding something from me, I'll find out. And the consequences won't be pretty," he warned.

I just stared at him as he took a deep breath and ran his fingers through his hair. When he looked back up at me, his gaze held something close to admiration.

"That was a good fight. Your form was a little sloppy, but you did well." I blushed at his praise and thanked him before we exited the office.

I caught Celia giving me a death glare when she saw us walking out together. She limped over to Valen and whispered something in his ear, while grasping his shirt. He chuckled and took her hand to gently pry it off. He smiled back at her and licked his lips.

Sienna snarled in my head and I felt another flare of jealousy. Were they involved? He's supposed to be getting to know me as a potential mate, and he has the audacity to flirt with another she-wolf in front of me? Had I been imagining the sparks that I thought there were between us?

I glanced back and saw Valen watching me as Celia prattled on. I rolled my eyes at him and turned away to get a drink.

The rest of the session went by quickly, and before I knew it, we were done for the day. I went over by lockers and began to gather the belongings I brought with me. I suddenly felt a presence behind me, and when I turned Valen was standing there with his arms crossed over his chest.

I raised my eyebrow at him but he did nothing. I huffed and pushed my way around him, bumping his shoulder in the process. I felt a small tingle radiate through me and my breath caught in my throat.

What the hell?

I looked back at Valen and he was staring at me in shock. I turned around and bolted for the door, then ran all the way back to my room. I was breathing heavily as I leaned my back against the door. My peace was short lived, as a hard knock reverberated the door frame.

"Indigo!", Valen shouted. "I know you're in there. Open the damn door!"

I snarled. "No!"

"So help me Goddess, if you don't open this door before I get to three, I will break it down."

I scoffed.

"1..."

He wouldn't really do it.

"2.."

Would he?

I could hear the anger building in his voice. I took a deep breath and swung the door open, just as he was about to say three.

"What do you want?" I snapped at him.

He glared at me before responding. "I just wanted to check on you."

I raised my eyebrows in disbelief. Had he not felt the tingles when we touched? Am I imagining it all?

"Yeah, right. Okay," I snorted. "Maybe you should go check on your girlfriend with the broken knee," I snarked at him as I tried to close the door again. He just blocked it with his foot.

"You may have kicked her ass, but you took a beating, too. Just let me in so I can look at your injuries."  I sighed in resignation and opened the door to let him in.

"Fine, but you have five minutes. Aislinn is supposed to take me shopping and I need to shower."

He entered my room and sat on one of the couches by the fireplace. I followed his movements and sat down beside him. He leaned forward to inspect my face. I hissed in pain when he ran his fingers along my tender jaw.

"That'll bruise up pretty good, but you won't have it for long," he murmured. He adjusted his position and began to prod at my ribs. I yelped in pain before leaping off the couch.

"That's tender, stop poking it so hard," I growled out.

"Stop being a baby. Lift your shirt so I can see the bruising." I gave him a look.

"I'm not trying to cop a feel, I need to examine the bruises to see if anything is broken."

I stared directly into his eyes as I slowly lifted my shirt to expose my ribcage. He sucked in a breath, and even though I was sure I had a huge purple bruise on my side, I saw his eyes darken.

He leaned forward and gently applied pressure to the bruise. I clenched my jaw and fought back tears, but this time I didn't pull away. My heart began pounding in my chest at the feeling of his skin on mine. His touch was so warm and tender. I felt like I could implode at any moment. I held my breath as I lowered my shirt back down.

"Okay, I'm examined. Now, get out," I demanded. His eyes flickered red for a moment.

Clearly, he didn't like being ordered around.

"Fine. I'd ice your ribs if I were you. They don't seem broken, but they're badly bruised." He raised from the couch.

"Wait!" I called out. He turned back to me.

"I...never mind," I stammered.

I had wanted to ask him about his relationship with Celia, but it seemed like it really wasn't any of my business. I'd only known him a few days, for Goddess Sake.  But still, I couldn't help the anger that coursed through my veins when I remembered the way she touched him and the way he seemed a little too friendly with her. He smirked back at me.

"Whoever I decide to be involved with is really none of your business, Indigo," he said to me.

I was humiliated. He had read me like a book. I could feel my face turning red. I walked over to the door.

"You're right, it's not my business. Why should I care anyway? You're just an arrogant asshole waiting for the perfect opportunity to bring me down," I replied coolly, before slamming the door in his face. I listened as he paused for a moment, before retreating down the steps.

Oh Goddess, where was Artemis when I needed her?

I collected myself for a few minutes before picking out a comfortable, casual outfit of black leggings, black combat boots, and an olive green oversized sweater. I quickly hopped into the shower to wash away the day's sweat and tenderly wrapped my rib cage before dressing.

I decided to skip the makeup today, since it was just going to be me and Aislinn, and brushed the tangles out of my hair. I threw it into a messy bun and made my way downstairs. I was surprised to see Von waiting for me at the bottom.

"Good afternoon, your majesty," I greeted him. He chuckled.

"You don't have to be so formal with me, Indigo. Von is fine." I gave him a warm smile.

"Where's Aislinn?"

"My mother needed her assistance, so I volunteered to take you out shopping in her place." He grinned and I noticed his cute little dimple pop out.

"If you're okay with that, that is," he said.

"Oh! Of course! Lead the way whenever you're ready."

He took my hand and tucked it into his arm before leading me out the front doors and into a sleek Bugatti that was parked out front.

"Is this yours?" I asked while admiring the car.

"It is. I don't usually get to drive it, though. Usually people just drive me around, but I figured you'd be more comfortable with just me today," he replied.

I swallowed and nodded at him with a tight smile. If only he knew how he set my heart on fire. With Von it was more like a slow, building burn that raged inside me. Much different from his brother, who's fire ignited at the slightest touch and could  burn me from the inside out.

I was so confused. How could I already feel so deeply for these two princes that I had just met? Did either of them feel anything, too? I snapped out of my thoughts and jumped into the passenger seat when I realized I was just standing there with my hand on the door handle.

"So, where are we going?" I asked.

Von smiled and put the car in drive. "We'll go to some luxury boutiques in town to get your formal wear. Then I figured we could just pop around the mall to find you some more casual clothes. I love that sweater on you, by the way," he said. I blushed and looked down.

"Thank you."

"Anytime."

The rest of the drive was silent, but it wasn't awkward. It was comforting, actually.

Soon we arrived at a small boutique that had beautiful dresses modeled in the window. How could I ever afford this? These dresses looked like they cost more than my life savings. I gulped.

"Don't worry about the cost, everything you need will be paid for by the royal family," Von reassured me.

"How do you do that?" I asked.

"Do what?"

"You always seem to know what I'm thinking before I say it aloud." He smiled and shrugged.

"I'm just good at reading people, I guess."

He exited the car and came around to open my door for me. I thanked him and followed him into the shop. A bell dinged as we walked inside, and a short, older lady with curly grey hair came running out from the back.

"Von!" she exclaimed as she embraced him tightly. "Its been too long! How is your mother?"

"She's doing great, Maria. She sends her best wishes," he replied as he embraced her back. She turned and seemed to notice me for the first time.

"And who is this beautiful young lady?"

"This is Indigo from the Moonlight pack. She's going to be staying with us for some time and she needs some ball gowns and formal wear," he explained. She studied me for a second before approaching me and enveloping me in a bear hug.

"It's so wonderful to meet you. I was worried Von here would never bring a girl in to me," she said with a wink. He coughed and his face turned red.

"It's.. not quite like that, Maria," he explained. She furrowed her brow for a moment then flipped her hand at him.

"Nonsense, I know blooming love when I see it!" It was my turn to blush.

"Anyway, let's get started! Indigo, come with me and we'll get your measurements so I can make you some custom pieces before the next ball. Von, you go and browse the racks and choose a few different styles for her." He saluted her before wandering off and I was dragged back into a dressing room.

"Okay, dearie. I need you to strip to your skivvies for me so I can get an accurate measurement." I about choked.

"Um, what?" I asked. She just laughed.

"Oh! Don't worry! It's completely for business. I'll do it quickly." I nodded my head and did as she said. She quickly measured my waist, my bust, and my height before disappearing out of the small room. I was just pulling my sweater over my head when she came back with dresses dangling from each arm.

"You don't expect me to try on all of those, do you?" I asked her while eyeing the bundle.

"Of course not. Pick the ones that catch your eye and get in them. Then come out to show us. It'll let me see what looks best on you and I can learn your style so I can design for you easier," she explained. I nodded and she disappeared again.

I looked through the dresses and settled on four that I liked. I put the rest on a hook on the other side of the room. The first two I tried on were very simple. They were both knee length gowns with a simple skirt that hung down.

The first one was a pale blue with skinny straps and delicate beading across the bodice. The second one was fire red and strapless. I thought they both looked pretty good on me, and judging by Maria's furious scribbling in her notebook, I think she did too.

The next dress was much more formal. It was a floor-length strapless ball gown that was gold in color. The outer part of the skirt was gossamer with small flowers sewn into it, while the inner skirt was a satin material that flowed out around me. The top was a plain corset style. I came out of the dressing room feeling a little embarrassed, but Maria turned to look at me and put her hand up to her mouth.

"Goddess, you look beautiful," she complimented me. I smiled back.

"Thank you. I really like the material of this dress and the way it flows on my body."

I glanced at Von and saw his eyes roaming over my figure. His face broke out into a small grin.

"You look fit for a Queen," he commented. I blushed even harder.

"Thank you, Von," I whispered before turning back to try on the last dress.

I had saved this one for last on purpose because it was a little more risque than the others. It was a short, black velvet dress with sequin straps. It had a sweetheart neckline on the top and the skirt fell just at my mid thigh. I stepped out and Von's eyes bugled out of his head.

I came closer and examined myself in the mirror.

"I like the look of it, it just seems a little short," I murmured.

"Hush, every lady needs a sexy black dress," Maria chimed in.

"Don't you think, Von?" she asked him with a glint of mischief in her eyes. He coughed before responding.

"Yes, I think it suits you....very well," he said while avoiding direct eye contact with me.

When our eyes did meet, his face flushed a deep red before he quickly left the dressing room. I frowned and looked back at myself in the mirror.

Okay, maybe this dress was a little too much. Maria tsked at me.

"Whatever negative thought you have about yourself, get it out of your head right now. You look stunning and you have the body to pull off that dress. I better see it in your pile when I ring you up!"

She followed Von out while I dressed back into my clothes. I heaved the four dresses I had chosen over my shoulder and went to the counter to pay. I was reaching for what money I did have while Maria was putting the dresses in bags, when Von put his hand over mine.

"Don't worry about it, I've got this," he said.

I stared at our hands for a moment.

"Okay, thank you," I replied with a smile.

"Why don't you wait outside? I'll help Maria bag these up and I'll meet you out there in a second," he suggested. I nodded and exited the boutique.

As I was waiting for Von, I heard a shrill voice to my left.

"Goddess, what are you doing here? We don't need the charity case going around town," Celia said to me as she approached with two other she-wolves.

"I'm shopping. Now go away," I said sternly.

"You can't just talk to me like that. I've been apart of this pack all my life, you're just here so that our kingdom doesn't crush yours. Don't think for a second when the princes realize you're not one of their mates, that they won't toss you aside and leave you to starve." She bared her teeth at me.

"Besides, I know personally that Valen is already taken, and Von? Well, he's no saint either." She leaned in so close to me I could feel her breath on my face.

"So stay away from them, got it?" she hissed. I just chuckled.

"That's really intimidating coming from the girl who's still limping from getting her ass kicked just hours ago. You know nothing of how and why I came here, so I suggest you lay off before you can't ever walk again," I growled at her.

Before she could reply to me, Von stepped out of the shop with my bags.

"Is there a problem here, ladies?" he asked.

"No, your majesty," Celia replied. "We were just talking to Indigo here about our training class, isn't that right?" She glared in my direction. I stayed silent and folded my arms across my chest.

"Well, if everything is fine, then Indigo and I must be on our way. Have a good day," Von said while grabbing my forearm and dragging me to the car. He threw the bags in the back seat while I hopped in the front.

"Are you okay?" he questioned me.

"Peachy," I responded.

"Indigo, if she was being rude to you we can..."he began to say.

"Just stop! It doesn't matter what she said to me. It doesn't matter how she treated me. All that matters is that I do what I was sent here to do, or you can throw me out as you see fit. I'm sure the girls lined up and your and Valen's doors would be ecstatic to see me go anyway," I shouted at him.  He sat back in his seat and clenched his hands on the steering wheel.

"That's what this is about? You're jealous because we've been with people in our past?" he said incredulously. My blood boiled.

"Like it matters to you, anyway," I spit back. "Let's hurry up and get this over with so we can go back to the palace."

He put the car in drive and sped away.

The rest of the shopping trip was uneventful and quiet. I was still too mad to try and talk to Von, and he clearly wasn't happy with me either. He'd keep huffing and checking his watch every now and then, which made me just pick random things to buy. Soon, we were heading back to his car. Just as I was about to climb in, he put his hand on the door and closed it.

"Look, Indigo, I'm sorry for whatever Celia said to you. And I'm sorry I lost my temper like that. Can I make it up to you? We could go to the park and get something to eat?" He looked at me with so much hope in his ocean eyes.

"Fine," I gave in. "But I get to choose what we eat, and I'm paying."

He tried to protest, but I shot him a look and he backed off with his hands raised before opening my door for me. He quickly climbed in on the other side and drove off.

It was only a few minutes before we were parked in front of a huge nature park covered with sprawling trees. It had different trails for hiking based on your experience and a small fishing pond in the middle.

"There are some street vendors at this park, so you can choose whatever you want and then we can go for a walk," he explained. I nodded and we hopped out.

The air smelled fresh and the sun was warm on my face, but my stomach was rumbling. I took a deep breath and sniffed. The mouthwatering aroma of street tacos met my nose and I instantly took off in the direction it came from.  I stopped before a small taco truck that was a little more out of the way than the rest of the food vendors. I turned back to Von with a grin on my face.

"Tacos?" he asked.

"Tacos." I confirmed. We went up to order and sat at one of the small tables to wait for our food.

"Are tacos your favorite food?" he asked me.

"Only authentic ones. I can make half assed ones any night of the week, but authentic ones really get my blood pumping," I explained.

"What about you? What's your favorite food?"

He looked down and blushed. "You'll think I'm such a child."

"I will not. Food is sacred, and if it's good, who cares what anyone else thinks."

He smiled his dimpled smile at me.

"Blueberry donuts."

I widened my eyes in surprise. I really hadn't been expecting that. I figured he'd say some fancy meal I had never even heard of.

"Huh, blueberry donuts. Those are good. We should get some, sometime," I said to him.

His grin widened. "I'd like that." I smiled back just as I heard my name being called. "Be right back, I've got to get our tacos!" I said before dashing off.

After we ate, Von offered to take me on a walk around the park.

"Sure," I agreed and we began walking toward the small pond.

"You can take me on a harder trail you know, I can handle it," I teased him and he just laughed.

"There's a special place I want to show you and we have to go this way to get there. Not a lot of people know about it," he said.

I wondered what he meant, but said nothing. After a brief walk, we were at the end of a trail that was blocked by thick shrubbery.

"You wanted to show me bushes?" I asked.

He shot me a look. "No, you dummy. It's behind the bushes."

He began to crouch down and move some branches out of the way for me, before gesturing that I should go ahead. I crouched down and crawled through with him right on my heels. Just before I was about to break through, he put a hand on my shoulder to stop me.

"Close your eyes," he whispered. "I want to see your reaction."

Butterflies swelled in my stomach and I nodded, not trusting my words. I closed my eyes and he guided me a little further forward.

"Okay, you can open them now," I heard him say.

I slowly opened my eyes and let out a gasp at the scene before me.

There was a magnificent lake about two miles in diameter that was surrounded by various types of forest trees. Swans were lazily floating around in the water and wild flowers dotted the banks. It was beautiful. A few feet in front of us, there was a small wooden bench and Von was leading me toward it. I followed his lead and sat down next to him.

"What do you think?" he asked.

"It's beautiful," I answered as I watched the sunlight bounce off the water. "It's so peaceful. How did you know this was here?"

"I used to come here a lot when I was a younger. One day, I just really wanted to get away from everything, so I walked the path we just did until I couldn't anymore. I sat in front of the bushes, crying, before I heard geese honking and realized there had to be something back here. So, I crawled through and found this. I don't get to come out here as often anymore, but its a good place to get away from your worries and just think," he explained. I nodded in agreement.

"Thank you for showing me this place. I will treasure it always."

He was silent for a moment, so I glanced back and caught him watching me. I gasped and my stomach fluttered again.

"What are you looking at?" I asked while looking down at my hands.

"You. You're incredible Indigo," he whispered to me. My face flushed and I tucked my chin in a little to try to hide from him.

"I'm really not, but I appreciate you saying that," I whispered back. He grabbed my chin and tilted my face toward him.

"You really are. I'm so glad it was you who came here."

His eyes held so much emotion as he gazed into mine. I took a shaky breath.

"I am too," I responded. I saw his pupils dilate as his eyes flicked to my lips. I subconsciously licked them and looked back into his eyes. His pupils had darkened and he was leaning in close.

My heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest as he inched closer and closer, but just before he could press his lips to mine, I put my hand on his chest to stop him. He moved back with confusion and a little hurt in his eyes.

"I'm sorry," I murmured.

"There's nothing for you to be sorry about, I shouldn't have done that. If anyone should be apologizing, it's me," he said without looking at me.

"It's not that I don't want to, I really do, it's just...I'm not ready. I've never been kissed before," I admitted. He finally looked back at me.

"Really?" he asked.

"Really, really."

"Well, when the time comes, I hope I'm the one who gets the pleasure of giving you your first kiss." I blushed, but smiled at him.

"Come on," he continued, "We should probably get you back to the palace."

I nodded and followed him out of the park and into the car. We drove back in silence, but my mind was filled with what it might feel like to have his lips on mine some day.
