âBeep, beep, beep-â
The phone emitted a series of busy signals.
Mo Chuyiâs expression shifted as she pressed the buttons again.
But still, the busy tone continued, cold and unfeeling.
The bodyguards by her side were nowhere to be seen, yet Mo Chuyi remained unflustered.
This was the Mo family residence, her stronghold. She had people here, and this was where her confidence stemmed from.
But now, she was completely cut off from the outside world!
What was happening?!
In disbelief, Mo Chuyi pressed the emergency call button repeatedly, but the screen always showed âCall Failed.â In a fit of rage, she hurled the phone away.
Due to her violent movements, the silver leaves embedded in her skin pierced deeper, the pain never ceasing, only intensifying further.
Blood gushed out, staining the ground red.
âWho⦠who are you?â Mo Chuyiâs body trembled, her voice quivering. âAre you from the Mo family? No⦠Iâve never seen you before! Youâre not from the Mo family!â
Yu Xiheng ignored her. âChen Ying.â
Chen Ying appeared silently before Mo Chuyi, dropping a few guards at her feet.
He knelt on one knee, paying respect to the man. âAt your service.â
Mo Chuyiâs pupils constricted sharply.
She didnât recognize Yu Xiheng, but she certainly knew Chen Ying.
The Mo familyâs evolved beings were few, none of them Class-A, with the highest being Class-B.
Chen Ying was among them.
Like Feng San, he was an orphan raised by the Mo family. Being an evolved being, he was early on given the status of a core member.
Mo Chuyi had tried to win him over, but Chen Ying was Mo Yanwenâs confidant and never gave her the chance to get close.
Who was this man, to whom even Chen Ying bowed in subservience?!
Yu Xiheng stood with his hands behind his back. âHave you counted?â
âYes, there are ninety-eight wounds on Xi Jiangâs body,â Chen Ying said coldly. âHis condition worsened due to the poison on the hidden weapons.â
âOnly six wounds, not enough,â Yu Xihengâs tone was indifferent.
Mo Chuyi couldnât grasp the meaning of their conversation. Her mind was in a whirl, as she felt cold glints flash before her eyes, hurtling towards her at high speed.
Many of the concealed weapons were unfamiliar to her.
âAhââ!!â
Mo Chuyiâs scream was shrill and heart-wrenching, her scalp almost splitting apart.
She had lost all ability to move, her vision filled with a crimson blur.
A demon!
This man was truly a demon from the depths of hell!
Yu Xiheng spoke again. âCount again.â
Chen Ying stepped forward, looking at the bloodied Mo Chuyi, feeling a slight chill.
Yu Xiheng rarely took action.
When he did, it was always swift and decisive.
This was one of the rare times Chen Ying saw him torture someone like this.
After counting, Chen Ying reported back to Yu Xiheng, âNinth Brother, itâs enough.â
âGood.â Yu Xiheng wiped his hands and said calmly, âLock her up. Donât let her die, keep her barely alive.â
Chen Ying acknowledged, âUnderstood.â
He forcibly pried open Mo Chuyiâs jaw, shoving a pill into her mouth.
Mo Chuyiâs injuries were severe. He feared that a few more drags would kill her.
âYou⦠youâre avenging Xi Jiang⦠but you have no proof!â Mo Chuyi regained some strength, her thoughts momentarily clear. âYou⦠you have no rightâ¦â
Even if Xi Jiang spoke out, as long as she denied it to her death, how could she be convicted?
She was unaware of the identities of the man and Xi Jiang.
But for him to be so ruthless, could it be that Xi Jiang and Mo Chuxing were already dead?
Yu Xiheng remained calm, his eyes cold. âI donât need proof.â
These words plunged Mo Chuyi into an icy abyss.
This handsome and noble man, like a gentle breeze and bright moon, how could he be associated with cruelty and violence?
Chen Ying picked up Mo Chuyi, his figure quickly disappearing.
Yu Xiheng returned to Xi Jiangâs recuperation room.
âBrother Nine.â Seeing his return, Feng San stood up. âHeâs sleeping well, even snoring.â
Yu Xiheng sat down, checked Xi Jiangâs pulse to confirm he was fine, then asked, âWhereâs your lady?â
Feng San hesitated for a moment. âMiss Si went to brew new medicine, sheâs on the rooftop.â
Yu Xiheng nodded. âRest well.â
He exited the room, climbing the stairs nearby.
The night was deep, and Yu Xiheng couldnât help but recall the past.
He remembered suppressing corrupt officials, stopping violence with violence, and being cursed.
They called him a jinxed star, cursed to bring misfortune to his family and those around him.
He was the embodiment of original sin.
As if to validate these claims, JIANG Haiping was gone, Mo Yanfeng was gone, and JI Chunyuan was gone too.
