Chapter 103:
âTheyâre not dead. Just clean them up,â Rhys instructed.
âOn it,â Hamilton responded, walking over to Rhys.
He couldnât help but notice Rhysâ uncharacteristically cheerful mood. Still, he dared not ask.
Rhys, playing with the ring on his finger, his voice tinged with irritation, ordered, âCopy and back up the surveillance footage from the Galaxy Bar from half an hour ago, and deliver it to the mayor.
As for these menâ¦
Dump them under the bridge. If any of them even whispers about this, silence them for good.
Find dirt on their families and let their families face bankruptcy and ruin. Spare no one.â
With that, Rhys tossed the soiled handkerchief to Hamilton and turned to leave.
Rhys was pleased because Harlee had trusted him to manage the situation, which meant he still held a special place in her heart.
As for her declining his offer to take her home, that was alright. There was still plenty of time for their relationship to grow.
After handling the men, Hamilton returned to the bar to secure the surveillance footage. Watching the disgraceful actions of the men, he labeled them âsons of bitchesâ and included detailed descriptions in the report, determined to see them locked up.
When Harlee got back to the Sanderson family home, it was after midnight. Lonnie and Skyla were asleep, and Brenton always stayed at his own villa.
Before leaving earlier that day, Harlee had told Skyla not to wait up for her as she would be out late. Nevertheless, Skyla had instructed the butler, Kane Valdez, to wait for Harlee in the living room.
As soon as Harlee walked in, Kane came over to her.
âMiss Sanderson, whatâs happened? Why is there blood on your clothes? Should I call the family doctor?â
Harlee shook her head.
âIâm fine. The blood isnât mine.â
From her explanation, Kane concluded that Harlee was unharmed and that the blood resulted from her acting as a good Samaritan.
âMiss Sanderson, you really are a kind-hearted person.â
Harlee was at a loss for words. Well⦠kind of?
âWhy are you still up so late?â Harlee looked at Kane, who appeared fragile due to his age, and wondered why he stayed up so late.
Kane was acting on Skylaâs instructions to wait up for Harlee.
âMrs. Sanderson wants to hold a big family reunion banquet for you on the 8th of next month. Let her know if youâre free so she can go dress shopping with you.â
Harlee had little interest in these plans.
But picturing Skylaâs excited face, she nodded.
âOkay, I got it.
But about the dressâ¦â
âPlease tell her Iâll take care of it myself. Iâll handle the outfits for the whole family.â
Lonnie had finally persuaded Skyla to join him on a trip to Maskana. They were departing the following morning, and Harlee needed Kane to pass on this message.
