Chapter 1069:
Kareemâs expression faltered before he perked up again, though the faint flicker of disappointment in his eyes didnât escape Harleeâs notice.
âWait, Tonya hasnât told you the good news, right?â
Harlee smiled faintly and switched the call to speaker mode, placing the phone between them.
âTonya just told me that a mysterious person wiped out Anigeniaâs forces. If thatâs your good news, I already know.â
Kareemâs gaze darted to the phone as he said, âTonya, hold up for a second! Let Harlee guess the other good news I have.â
Tonya hesitated, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
âUh, Kareem, Iâve been cooped up in the hospital these past few days. Iâm not exactly in the loop, so your news might be as new to me as it is to her.â
If Harlee hadnât planted her own informants, Tonya wouldnât have known about this either.
âHa-ha, even better! Now you can take a guess too!â Kareem laughed heartily.
Tonyaâs tone turned skeptical.
âDoes it have something to do with Anika and Eugenia? Did something else happen to them?â
After speaking, Tonya muttered under her breath, âThis canât be right.
How could Rhys let something happen to them? However, Kareem wouldnât be this excited if nothing happenedâ¦â
Tonyaâs thoughts swirled as Harlee confidently declared, âThe good news must be that something has happened to them.â
âBingo!â Kareem snapped his fingers, grinning.

âHarlee, you have a sharp instinct. Yes, something did happen to Anika and Eugenia.
According to my sources, they had a huge argument this morning over something, and Anika stormed out of the villa. Then, she and Eugenia vanished.â
âHas Rhys made any moves?â
Kareem shrugged and replied, âIâm not sure. The informants didnât mention anything about Rhys, and the people I have keeping tabs on him havenât reported anything new.â
Harleeâs frown deepened. She knew Rhys well.
He wouldnât allow harm to come to his woman unless he didnât love her and was just using her.
But if it was just a matter of use, how could someone as meticulous as Rhys be so willing to share his bed with Anika?
Frustration gnawed at Harlee.
Her patience with Rhys was wearing thin. What on earth was he trying to accomplish? What was the endgame behind all of this?
Harlee glanced at Kareem and then down at the phone between them.
Her lips moved as she pondered.
After a moment, an idea struck her, and she suddenly said, âMaybe they didnât disappear at all. Maybe Rhys is protecting them. Kareem, youâve been growing increasingly aggressive toward Anika and Eugenia lately, and with Brentonâs maneuvers in the mix, they probably couldnât handle it anymore. They must have reached out to Rhys, asking him to help and send them back to Uwhor.â
Kareem couldnât help but wonder if Rhys still had the power to conceal Anika and Eugenia right under their noses, given his diminished influence.
