Chapter 1218:
Harlee tossed another chair, snuffing out all the candles and plunging the hall into complete darkness.
âMiss Sanderson, do you really think you can get away like this?â Matteoâs voice was filled with fury.
âForget it. My men are everywhere. Thereâs no escaping!â
âCare to bet? Will you achieve your vengeance, or will I find my way out?â Harleeâs voice, calm and collected, reverberated through the dark.
Aware of Matteoâs ability to track by sound, Harlee moved swiftly and changed positions each time she spoke, complicating his attempts to locate her.
After several unsuccessful gunshots, Matteoâs frustration was palpable.
He shouted, âHarlee, donât be too confident!â Following that, only the sound of his men stirring in the darkness remained, with no sign of Harlee.
âHarlee, where are you? Come outâ¦â Matteo shouted into the dark, but was met with only silence.
Harlee had made her escape. She dashed into the control room at full speed, seizing a gun from an adversary.
Gunfire followed, and soon the floor was littered with bodies.
Just as Harlee aimed at the last figure, he spoke. It was Rhys.
âItâs me!â
Rhys hurried toward Harlee and said, âSorry, Iâm not back to full strength. I needed you to rescue me.â
Neither Waylon nor Matteo had anticipated that while they plotted, Harlee had instructed Rhys to feign a bathroom break to locate the control room and cut the power.
Initially, Rhys had managed well, but when faced with multiple adversaries, he was forced to hide and wait for Harleeâs help.
âYou did great!â Harlee exclaimed.
âIf you hadnât shut off the power, we would never have had a chance.â
She gave him a quick kiss on the lips.
âNow our luck is joined. Weâre definitely making it out!â
Rhys drew her close, returning her kiss passionately.
âLetâs stretch our luck even further.â
âIf we stretch it too much, it might snap,â Harlee said, easing back from his embrace. They were aware that their allies were a twenty-minute drive away, and reaching safety would require all their effort.
Without further ado, Rhys let her go and said, âFirst, we need to get out of here.â
Harlee stayed silent as the sound of approaching footsteps intensified outside.
They shared a glance in the darkness, gripping each otherâs hands firmly. Then, they quietly moved to the window and leaped out.
Lilianaâs villa was situated halfway up a mountain in a lightly populated area, making escape on foot nearly impossible.
They hid themselves in a bush outside the villa.
Harlee peeked out, noticing several groups of people combing through the area.
âReady to gamble?â Harlee murmured.
