Chapter 1281:
At this, âTonyaâ felt a twinge in her nose, her eyes beginning to fill with tears. She delicately loosened Harleeâs grasp and stepped back. âDonât you want to know what happened to me?â
Realizing that âTonyaâ was concerned about getting her dirty, Harlee restrained her tears, standing still. Her voice trembled as she asked, âWhat exactly occurred?â
âTonyaâ managed a forced smile, brushed off her clothes, and sat down casually. âTruthfully, Iâm not sure myself. I found myself in this girlâs body when I awoke. Her name is Tania, and sheâs an orphan. I hesitated to take any action until I understood the situation better. It wasnât until I saw you that I recognized this as the island where I had once planned a surprise for you.â
Caught up in her longing and sorrow, Harlee overlooked why âTonyaâ hadnât mentioned Dario.
âHow have you managed these past days?â Harleeâs voice remained deeply concerned.
âI pretended to be invisible, avoiding contact with anyone,â âTonyaâ said, a hint of helplessness in her voice. âThis girlâs body is too weak. I couldnât gather any strength. I had to quietly heal before I could take any action.â At that moment, tears welled up, seemingly signaling the immense hardships âTonyaâ had faced.
âTonyaâ then looked up at Harlee. Noticing the curiosity in Harleeâs eyes, she lowered her gaze once more. âIf I had known things would end up like this, I wouldnât haveâ¦â
âPlanned any surprises? Harlee, how am I supposed to make up for the suffering these people have endured?â
âDonât worry, Iâve got this,â Harlee said. With tear-filled eyes, she carefully examined âTonya,â who looked so thin, bringing another wave of sadness. Harlee felt fortunate to have made the journey here. Otherwise, âTonyaâ might have endured even worse suffering.
As Harlee stood there, her stomach suddenly churned, and she felt the familiar pangs of pregnancy once more.
âTonyaâ was quick to react, patting Harleeâs back soothingly before placing a hand on Harleeâs wrist. Her face brightened with excitement. âHarlee, am I going to be a godmother?â
After a bout of nausea, Harlee managed a joyful smile. âYes. It seems the little one is also glad to have you back.â
âOh, little one, youâre truly a joy.â âTonyaâ smiled and gave a thumbs-up. Just then, a noise not too far off caught their attention.
âTonyaâ smiled and gestured with her eyebrows for Harlee to look. âHeâs quite the attentive one, isnât he?â
âTonyaâ chuckled and then shifted the topic. âBy the way, has he reclaimed his memory? What about the toxins? Could they impact my future godchild?â
At this, Harleeâs nose twitched. Rhys had indeed recovered his memory around the same time Tonya was severely injured. âYes. He remembers everything now.â
Harlee squeezed her hands tight, struggling to hold back a new wave of tears.
âHarlee, rebirth is too outrageous. Itâs better if only you know about it,â âTonyaâ said cautiously. âTo others, just tell them Iâm Tania, someone trained by Tonya.â
Harlee agreed without hesitation and nodded. âUnderstood. If Rhys inquires about our conversation, Iâll tell him you shared many memories of Tonya.â
Tania smiled and said, âWeâre really on the same wavelength. I was about to suggest that!â
With that, they both stood. As Tania walked alongside Harlee, her demeanor shifted subtly. In a secluded spot, unseen by Harlee or Rhys, she allowed herself a smug smile. She had heard that Harlee was really smart. However, she had managed to deceive Harlee completely.
