Chapter 1291:
Harlee responded with a chilling laugh, âReally, they think snakes can stop us?â
Dario moved closer, his voice tinged with anxiety. âHarlee, those snakes are trained by the Clifford family to enforce obedience. They toss dissenters into that pit.â
âIs that so?â Harlee smirked, then turned to the remaining two men. âWell, letâs let them feel what itâs like to be bitten to death.â The two men dropped to their knees, overcome with fear, yet they remained silent, knowing that any plea could lead to worse consequences. Previously, any mercy they sought had only brought them lashes.
Harlee stood silently, her lips barely parted. âDestroy their faces and bring them back,â she ordered.
âUnderstood!â Agents of the Shadow Moon Society quickly moved to escort the two terrified men away.
Meanwhile, Harlee, with assistance from Rhys, climbed the wall. She drew her silver pistol and aimed at a window.
A gunshot rang out, shattering the glass.
The venomous snakes, initially poised for an attack, now swarmed into the building.
Soon after, the house erupted with panicked shouts, gunshots, and the sounds of knives striking against snake scales.
Voices cried out in terror, âAhhh⦠The snakes are insideâ¦â
âSon, how can we ever stand against Miss Santosâ allies? We should give up and admit our faults.â
âYes, the cameras show theyâve brought a huge group. Weâre outgunned. We canât win against them!â
The voices inside were in an uproar until a manâs voice cut through, silencing them all. âShut up!â
Herman Clifford, the family leader, shouted with impatience, âRemember who brought you prosperity these last two years. If you wish to give up, be my guest, but letâs see if you can outrun a bullet!â A gunshot echoed, bringing sudden silence.
Herman had a remedy for the snakes, utilizing a plant he always carried, known to repel them.
âLetâs send Patrick to fetch them,â Rhys suggested.
âNo,â Harlee responded. The enemies were armed. A confrontation could lead to fatalities, potentially leaving no one remaining to provide any information about Tonya.
As Harlee weighed her options, the Clifford family emerged, led by a young man wielding a detonator. A raspy voice taunted from behind him, saying, âYouâre a close friend of Miss Santos, arenât you? Do you see what heâs holding? The detonator! Step forward rashly, and I swear Iâll obliterate all that Miss Santos has built!â
Harleeâs expression turned dark, her demeanor utterly ruthless.
With no response forthcoming, the raspy voice continued, âAh, I forgot to mention, this mansion was also a surprise from Miss Santos. Make a move, and itâs the first thing Iâll destroy!â
This voice hid behind the young man, seemingly wary of Harleeâs potential gunfire, taking cover preemptively.
âA suicide threat. Quite novel,â Harlee said, her smile tinged with mockery. Her taunt seemed to trample on the ego of the recent speaker, Herman, nearly driving him to emerge angrily from his cover. âDonât get cocky. I donât care who you are, but this island is under my control! We can go down together if need be!â
