Chapter 1323:
A chill ran through Brinley. What was bothering Samson today? Why was he so agitated? Had he uncovered her actions? That couldnât be possible! She had been meticulous for decades, and Samson had never noticed anything. It seemed impossible that heâd find out now. Maybe Paulina had let something slip before she fled.
Brinley felt a knot tighten in her stomach. This was the reason she had wanted to eliminate Paulina. She hadnât expected Paulina to actually slip away.
With a laugh, Brinley said, âSweetheart, surely youâre not harboring resentment because of what Paulina blurted out, are you? Paulina isnât loyal to us. How much of her words can you really trust? Donât let her tarnish your reputation.â
âEnough!â Samson snapped fiercely, pointing to the door. âLeave! I canât stand to look at you right now!â
Though his face was seething with rage, thoughts of what Paulina had mentioned lingered in his mind. Why was the Happer family so supportive of the Fletchers? Paulinaâs marriage to Wesley alone shouldnât account for their loyalty over the years. Had his wife really been cheating on him?
The more Samson pondered, the colder his heart became. His gaze toward his wife darkened with a sense of murderous intent.
Brinley watched him in shock. They had been together for decades, and it was the first time he had ever addressed her with such severity.

âPlease leave, I need some time to myself,â Samson softened his tone at last. âIâm concerned that Paulinaâs escape might jeopardize our plans.â He suspected his wife might actually be involved with Carlos Happer, Wesleyâs father, and feared that Carlos might try to eliminate him if he discovered their affair. Her unfaithfulness was something he could endure. After all, he had his own affairs. He resolved simply to avoid her from now on. Plus, hadnât the daughters he had married off for business gains been involved with multiple men as well?
Samson collected his thoughts and returned to his usual calm demeanor, saying, âI apologize for being too agitated. Thatâs why I was rough with you. Weâre unsure of Paulinaâs whereabouts. If she does manage to connect with Harlee, I worryâ¦â
Brinley exhaled in relief, confident that this fool remained oblivious to her affair. With a mix of reproach and grievance, she responded, âYouâre overreacting. Does Paulina even have the capability? Besides, we control her parents. We still hold the reins, donât we?â Samson remained silent.
Seeing he didnât reply, Brinley sighed and said, âNever mind. Iâll take care of it. Iâll make sure the Fletcher family remains disconnected from anyone in Baythorn.â
Brinley felt her husband was useless. If eliminating Paulina was necessary, she knew sheâd have to take matters into her own hands.
That was exactly what Samson had hoped to hear. As he sat there, looking eager, Brinley felt uneasy. She sensed that her husband was acting a little differently, but she quickly assured herself that he was still under her control, which was more than enough.
âThank you, Brinley,â Samson said gently. âI owe my position to you. I truly love you.â
He didnât have time to argue with her. The most important thing right now was to eliminate any threat Paulina might pose. What about the things she had done? When he had the time, he would take care of the situation slowly, making sure the Happer family never found out.
What Samson failed to realize was that he had already become a pawn in someone elseâs game, with the Fletcher family also involved. He was no longer the powerful head of the Fletcher Group. He only maintained the empty appearance of it. Additionally, his leadership of the Fletcher Group was covertly manipulated by the Happer family, aiming to capture the Fletcher Groupâs wealth.
The marriage between Wesley and Paulina was nothing more than a tactic to seize Valentinâs assets. Samson had been a complete fool, tragically realizing the deception only shortly before his death, leaving him no opportunity for retribution.
