Chapter 1370:
Hearing these words allowed Harlee to breathe a sigh of relief, although her anxiety persisted. âBrenton, whatâs going on? How did things at the Sandersons become so chaotic, and why are our parents fleeing with Kareem?â
Harlee had been preoccupied with issues at T&H Island and the Fletcher family, having not returned home for several days.
âThe evening you traveled to Vloustin City, the Happers organized a closed-door gala in Baythorn. Both our parents were in attendance but soon felt sick. Without warning, the authorities were demanding Kareem surrender them for quarantine, alleging they were infected,â Brenton remarked, his voice heavy with fatigue. âItâs likely the disruption at home was caused by their search of the property. Kareem has been evading their capture while also searching for a mentor of Flemingâs.â
âThat mentor specializes in virology,â Brenton added, worried Harlee might miss the importance.
âThe Happer family of Baythorn?â Harleeâs brows furrowed deeply.
âThatâs right,â Brenton answered. âThe specifics are dull, but itâs undoubtedly a calculated conspiracy. The Sandersons are being targeted deliberately.â

Harlee held her phone with a firm grip, staying silent as she lifted her eyes to meet Rhysâ, whose face showed deep concern. She looked into his eyes intently for a prolonged moment before her lips began to move with effort. Despite the difficulty, her voice came out strong as she said into the phone, âBrenton, ensure our parents are safe with Kareem. As for Nola⦠Sheâs mine to handle!â
This statement caused Rhysâ expression to tighten, a sign of his emerging exasperation. He understood Harlee was not one to back down. Nolaâs use of Tania to infiltrate Harleeâs life alone was reason enough for Harlee not to forgive her lightly. Not to mention the intricate traps and the harm done to Lonnie and Skyla. Harlee was undoubtedly out for vengeance.
âHarlee!â Brenton said, his voice filled with concern. âJust rest and let us handle the situation.â
Rhys relaxed his embrace but held Harleeâs hand tightly, pulling her close to his chest with a firm tug. Looking down into her eyes, he replied gravely, âNo matter your decision, Iâm with you.â
Harlee looked slightly distant, but a feeling of warmth grew within her. She tightened her hold on his hand, her determination now more visible than ever.
Brenton nearly lost his composure at Rhysâ words. âRhys, are you mad? If my parents are infected with a serious virus, isnât it obvious that Nola could be leveraging a biological threat? And yet, youâre ready to let Harlee confront her. What if Harlee gets infected? Damn it! Think clearly!â The true intentions of their opponents were still unknown, yet Rhys was prepared to support Harleeâs decision to confront Nola. Had Brenton not been preoccupied, he would have headed straight to Remson Manor to knock some sense into Rhys.
âBrenton, making me sit idle at home while you all are in danger will only leave me feeling restless,â Harlee responded clearly. âThatâs even more harmful to my pregnancy.â
Brenton was left without words. Once Harlee made her decision, it was final, particularly with Rhysâ unyielding support by her side.
After hesitating, Brenton finally yielded, his voice carrying a mixture of exasperation and affection. âFine. But both of you should be careful. If something comes up, let me know, and steer clear of danger.â
âOkay. The baby Iâm carrying will ensure I stay out of trouble,â Harlee said. Brenton, still worried, had a long conversation with Rhys, emphasizing the need to ensure Harleeâs safety before he could bring himself to end the call.
After the call, the resolve in both Harleeâs and Rhysâ eyes was evidentâthey were united in their deadly intent. Nolaâs downfall was inevitable.
