Chapter 1390:
âWhy are you still here?â
Rhys gazed at her, an affectionate smile on his face.
âHoney, where else should I be?â
âNo, I mean, donât you usually start your day early? Normally, youâd be up by now, right? Thatâs what I meantâ¦â
Harleeâs explanation tumbled out somewhat confusedly.
Finally, she gave in and nestled closer into Rhysâ arms. As she did, her collar shifted, exposing the graceful curve of her neck.
âYouâre making things quite tempting first thing in the morning, honey. Thatâs a bit overwhelming for me!â Rhys gently nuzzled her face with his rough, unshaven chin.
The stubble scratched her skin, making her want to pull away. She laughed and said, âCut it out, or youâll upset the baby!â
âHow could it?â Rhysâ hand gently stroked her visibly swelling belly, his grin playful.
âOnce it arrives, Iâll have to give it a little tap. Thatâll teach it not to misbehave!â
Harlee slapped his hand away with a firm smack, her voice carrying a touch of playful annoyance.
âThatâs not good for the baby. Leave us be!â
âOw, that hurts⦠Look, itâs all red now,â Rhys blurted out.
âServes you right!â Harlee responded with a confident smirk, throwing off the covers and sitting up.
âDonât you even think about teasing my precious baby!â

Rhys reclined on the bed, observing her. Her complexion was still slightly pale, but there was a renewed sparkle in her eyes, and she didnât have the haunted look from last night. Pretending to be irritated, he pulled her into his arms and said fiercely, âYou think you can hit me and just walk away?â
Harlee looked him straight in the eye, her tone defiant.
âWhat? Are you planning to hit me back?â
âYouâre getting cocky!â He traced his hand up to her neck gently.
Harlee arched her neck back, allowing his hand to encircle her throat.
âExactly. Iâve always been bold, and your indulgence has only made me bolder.â
At this, Rhys couldnât resist any longer, pinning her to the bed and kissing her deeply, a joyful smile playing across his lips. Their kisses were filled with intense passion, the heat of the moment affecting them both deeply.
Rhys broke away just in time, and Harlee looked up at him with a playful smile.
âIf you keep restraining yourself like this, you might have problems later on, you know?â
âKeep taunting me, and youâll see what happens after you deliver!â Rhys propped himself up on one arm, the other tenderly stroking her cheek as if she were a delicate gem.
âWeâll see about that in six months!â Harlee shoved him away playfully and climbed out of bed, striding toward the bathroom. She paused, turned, and smiled brightly at him.
âRhys, I love you.â
With that, she entered the bathroom without a backward glance.
The night before, the stress concerning Coulson had triggered another distressing episode for her. Without Rhysâ forceful reassurance, she wasnât sure how she would have coped today.
Upon hearing her declaration, Rhys leaped from the bed, a victorious grin on his face, and followed her into the bathroom, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind.
Harlee rinsed her mouth, then lifted her head to meet his gaze in the mirror.
âRhysâ¦â
âHmm?â He rested his chin on her shoulder, his smile teasing.
âAre you trying to tell me you love me more?â
