Chapter 1392:
âCarry out his plan and make adjustments based on how things unfold.â
Rhys looked up at Harlee and immediately said, âThe meeting is adjourned.â
Harlee looked up, their eyes meeting.
âYou donât have to stop the meeting for me. I donât need complete silence to work.â
âEverything has been taken care of,â Rhys said as he snapped his laptop shut, looking up at Harlee.
âSo, whatâs your next move with Nola?â
âIâll hold off for now,â Harlee replied, shaking her head.
âIâve just learned two things. Firstly, Nola isnât plotting anything soon. Sheâs dealing with some trouble regarding the Mechuique arms deal, and the Happer family is preoccupied.â
Given Nolaâs tendency to create chaos, even though she was overwhelmed, dismissing her entirely would be a mistake.
Rhysâ expression grew intense.
âShould I kill Nola?â
âEliminating her would be straightforward, but the Happer family stands with her. Too many people would get involved,â Harlee responded quietly.
It wasnât fear of Nola that restrained Harlee, but the potential backlash from the Happer family that could provoke endless strife. She didnât want Twilight members constantly battling sneak attacks. After all, they had aspirations to open a farmhouse restaurant.
âBut this way, you also lose the chance to uncover why sheâs targeted you,â Rhys said, understanding her deeper concerns.

âThereâs no way around it. I really want to know why she holds such deep hatred,â Harlee said, feeling trapped in her lack of understanding. If she knew Nolaâs motives, she might have orchestrated a counterstrategy rather than react defensively.
Standing, Rhys moved closer and pulled up a chair beside her. Placing his hand on the table, he leaned in, his voice soothing yet compelling.
âAnd the second piece of news?â
âI need to probe deeper into Nola and the Happer family. Expect me to be out and about, just giving you a heads up,â she said, offering him a charming smile.
âSeek approval for what?â Rhys feigned ignorance.
It seemed his consent wouldnât come easily, though Harlee had anticipated as much.
Harlee slid the laptop between them, forming a barrier.
âThen let me work without interruption. Iâm limited to three hours on the computer daily, and Iâm swamped!â
As she finished speaking, her laptop was pushed away, and she fell into his arms.
The room was bathed in a warm, golden hue from the outside light, intensifying the mood.
Rhys met her gaze squarely, his eyes intense with concern.
âIâd rather you didnât delve into the Happer family or Nola. Itâs too risky. What if I canât be there with you?â He was entangled in his own problems, and their paths might not always align.
âRhysâ¦â
Before she could say more, Rhys added, âYouâd find a way to go without telling me.â
He sighed, releasing her from his embrace and meeting her gaze with a grave intensity.
âTherefore, I have one condition. Promise me, wherever you are, youâll wait for me!â His determination to stay by her side was unwavering. The thought of her embarking on any venture alone unnerved him. He worried that something might happen to her. Just like the night before, she had slipped into a spiral of self-blame. If he hadnât been there, he couldnât bear to imagine what painful ways she might have turned to just to cope.
Harleeâs eyes fell to where his hand clasped hers, and she felt a wave of affection. She looked up with sincerity in her eyes.
